Want to move back ASAP.

I'm 25 years old, moved to Aus when I was 18, horrible, horrible age to move country. I am completely, 100% done with this country, just wondering if there is anyone on here around the same age as me that has moved back recently and has any tips? I'm looking at living in Bristol and I'm just wondering what the jobs/ housing etc will be like for someone of my age that hasn't lived in the country for 7 years. Also, trying to organise my passport which is turning out to be a total nightmare :dull:

Do you have a trade or qualifications or anything?

We moved from Bristol last year. Fab city and plenty to offer. May find if hard to find a rental as house shares are common because of the uni. But plenty of options I'd think. Work wise, depends. Skills, luck, experience all play their part. I doubt you being in Aus will have much bearing on your job hunting. Plenty of people from overseas find work there and live happily.

Why is arranging a passport so hard? Pretty simple procedure.

I don't have a trade, was planning on going back to college over there as it costs so much less than over here. I'm definitely happy to do house share so thats not an issue I guess :)

Yeah I kind of thought that coming from another country could even possibly have a positive impact on employment, but perhaps that wishful thinking! My accent has morphed into a hybrid, so maybe I should play up the 'G'days' hahaha

Just had a bit of a stuff around with photos, so I'm finally sending off (what I hope) will be the last set of documents. Crossing my fingers that they'll arrive in less than the 6 weeks...

You might find the fees are even higher because you have not been living in the UK for so long.

My girls moved from Bristol to Brisbane when they were 15 & 16 now 20 & 23. One did try going back but lasted 2 months. I'd suggest a holiday first to try it out.

Well my actual plan is to go back for a while, travel around Europe, and then go and check out Canada for a bit. I'm not 100% going to be living in the U.K, I just know for sure that I don't want to live here...

Go for it! One of mine was a bit younger than you when he went back for a "holiday". Now with a home, wife and family on the way he has no intention of ever returning to Aus. Bristol is big and bustling you should pick up something but may have to rethink the way you do further training with international fee conditions. Good luck and have a great time!

Thanks everyone :) I finally sent off my passport stuff yesterday so fingers crossed it gets here in record time!

Quoll, I may have to go into traineeship or apprenticeship or something, which sucks because of the pay involved, and I'll feel like a 16 year old again (maybe a good thing! haha) but if it means not paying a ridiculous amount of money, thats fine with me!

My son went back end of last year and we sent off is passport around 2 months before he went. We had a nightmare trying to get it in time for his trip, it arrive 2 days before he flew. It also took several phone calls and emails to the passport office so that he didn't miss his flight.

Well luckily my previous passport had expired a couple of years ago so even though I wanted to, I haven't booked my flight. Did it just take ages to arrive, or did you have actual trouble with it. I'm a naturally anxious person and I can't help worrying that it's not going to be smooth sailing, even though I've definitely got all the correct info, just a little worried about my countersignatory..

His issue was the fact that they required extra id via email but we never got the email so we thought everything was going fine with the application. In the end I got some help from a lady at the British High Commission | 44, Hill St | Wellington 6011, New Zealand. An examiner will approve the application but the passport come from the uk.
