M1cha3la
Hey, I know there are a few threads at the moment regarding payslips ect for proof of employment, but we having the opposite problem in we have all the payslips and bank statements, but can not get a reference. From a points perspective, we are struggling to get a reference from his earliest employer. Its been 4 years since he worked there, we need a reference just for the last year he worked there as thats what we are claiming. Basically, they are saying it is not company policy to give a reference, not even to just confirm he actually worked there  There is no way they will give one, and the HR will no longer even take our call or acknowledge our emails :cry: Can we submit a self/statutory declaration, like we did for the skills assessment? Thanks xx

Thanks xx Hi! Could you not contact your other half's previous line manager or supervisor and ask them for one rather than going through HR? Rick needed one from further back that 4 years, so got the contact details of his previous supervisor and emailed him directly. Rick actually wrote the reference (we needed a really detailed one as evidence for his skills assessment), emailed it to Andy, and then Andy printed it on letter headed paper and signed it. Might be worth a try? Good luck with it though! Ange
M1cha3la
Hi Ange, Thanks for the reply. We originally contacted our old line manager (we both worked there lol) and she wont as it is against company policy. Hence approaching HR. They will not do it. They dont even do references for leavers new companies. It is really annoying as I worked there 6 years and DH 4 years and we have nothing to show for it bar payslips and some emails with complements that I printed off. Its a pain. I am stuck on what we can do.
bell123321
A long shot but could you contact national insurance or the tax office to help prove he worked there? Or are they after an actual reference? Do you have your contract of employment anywhere? Do you have any friends who work there? Hope you manage to get what you need

Londongal76
I just emailed all my own managers, we're all contractors anyway and they did my references. One company has been sold and merged and none of the old people were there still so i contacted an old colleague and he's written my reference for there and my solicitor will certify it for me. Might be worth seeing if you can get in touch with someone else who knew you there and ask them directly.
Que Sera Sera
What we did with one of my OH's employers who were the same was to actually write a detailed reference, listing what my OH did. We printed it off then my OH physically took it to them and asked them to sign it. They did probably just to get rid of him
jodipodi
M1cha3la I hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread but it's a sort of similar query that I have......:wubclub: The lady who was hubby's manager in his previous job has left, as have most of the supervisors etc who would know exactly what his role was etc.....just wondering if anyone knows what you'd do in this situation for visa purposes? They both said (the 2 ladies who were managers) they'd write him a reference no problem but as they no longer work at that company what do you do then? xx

M1cha3la
Thanks for the replies everyone :wubclub: There a few different ways in there so hopefully we can get it sorted. I was starting to consider stalking my manager :twitcy: Its sad really as we both spent a long time there and left on good terms. I always knew they didn't give references, but its not really something you think about until it comes to it. Then I really thought they would do us one, as my DH did loads for the manager so I hoped she would make an exception or even do a personal one. Guess not :daydreaming: Of course I don't mind Jodi you are not thread jacking, a problem shared.. :wubclub:
pablo
I done a stat dec for the firm i served my time with M,there was no problem, that was for TRA,think your old companies policy is strange tbh!,but then im not in your game
M1cha3la
Thanks Pabs.. We did a stat dec for the skills assessment, so really just wondered if it was ok to do so with DIAC too.. To be honest my old company is just strange like that, but sadly by law employers are not obliged to offer references, so they are doing nothing wrong legally (morally it sucks). Its frustrating to say the least.. Onwards and upwards hey.. Xx
Fatema Merchant
Hello. . I have a similar problem, we can get manager sign the reference, but it would not be on the company letterhead. Would that work for DIAC? Or it would be better to have a self-statutory declaration done? Mine is 175 and a 5 year old application, so couple of job changes , so quite a hassle .. M1cha3la
We got a reference :jiggy: I threw my toys out and sent our manager a long email stating about how much we did for the company. I also emailed a friend that works there and asked then ask our manager if she had received our email, which must of guilted her as today we got the reference, I don't like to involve others but it did the trick.. What a performance...
