OZ lander
Hi everyone Our friends, a professional couple are moving to Melbourne and are looking to live in East Brunswick / Lygon street. Any comments on this area? Is this a good area to live in please? The couple is approximately mid-30s and will work in the CBD. Many thanks
starlight7
My daughter used to live in Lygon Street until a year ago. She liked it, it was very central but it is quite noisy at night and she got sick of it after a while. It is not cheap! She was renting a very small old flat up a flight of stairs- shocking kitchen but the flat was kind of quirky and arty. They were redeveloping so she had to leave in the end. paisleylass
We went to a nice cafe there on our last trip to Melbourne, called Ginger Lee's. Bit urban and hipster/student-y for my tastes as somewhere to live but certainly convenient for the city!
Parley
I would hate it. Why would you want to live on a bustling shopping strip ?
flag of convenience
Great place for those that don't like living in burbs and want everything in walking distance. For those that lived in London perhaps an easier landing.
matjones
A little noisy for my liking. Too many students. If they are looking for a quieter area with easy access, they could look at North Melbourne & South Melbourne.
Petals
My daughter lives in between Lygon Street and Sydney Road and loves it. This is her second home in the area. She lived in Edward street for a year, its a nice street and according to the Age Domain is a desirable area there. She still lives there in another road now and I like it too. My mum likes it, thinks it great. I think its an ideal area for young professionals. They have a car but only use it if they need to come and see me and pick up something bit. Quinkla
I think it's a great area - lively, vibrant, accessible. Some of the side streets are actually very quiet - it's only the main roads that are busy. My only hesitation would be residents' parking - not sure how available it is. Perhaps Petals or others could advise?
