Hi everyone

Our friends, a professional couple are moving to Melbourne and are looking to live in East Brunswick / Lygon street. Any comments on this area?

Is this a good area to live in please?

The couple is approximately mid-30s and will work in the CBD.

Many thanks

My daughter used to live in Lygon Street until a year ago. She liked it, it was very central but it is quite noisy at night and she got sick of it after a while. It is not cheap! She was renting a very small old flat up a flight of stairs- shocking kitchen but the flat was kind of quirky and arty. They were redeveloping so she had to leave in the end.

My daughter lives in between Lygon Street and Sydney Road and loves it. This is her second home in the area. She lived in Edward street for a year, its a nice street and according to the Age Domain is a desirable area there. She still lives there in another road now and I like it too. My mum likes it, thinks it great.

I think its an ideal area for young professionals. They have a car but only use it if they need to come and see me and pick up something bit.

I think it's a great area - lively, vibrant, accessible. Some of the side streets are actually very quiet - it's only the main roads that are busy. My only hesitation would be residents' parking - not sure how available it is. Perhaps Petals or others could advise?
