Stew75 Posted November 13, 2013 Share Posted November 13, 2013 Hi,:biggrin: Hello to everyone on here, this is my first post and I would appreciate some relevant advice. I meet the criteria of a skilled application and acheive 60 points, but I have a health condition/s that hang over me and prevent me furthering my application. I have CF and am 38 years old, I also have CF related diabetes. Both conditions are very well controlled and I am fortunate to only have mild CF whereby I take pancreatic enzymes and oral antibiotics only. In my lifetime, I have never been hospitalised by the condition and have always maintained excellent lung capacity and I am not restricted when excersising or in day to day life at all, infact, it's my little secret, you probably wouldn't know that I have the condition, it's that mild (thankfully). I have longed to live in Australia since spending a year there is 2000/2001, but there are obvious health issues that prevent me applying. I wondered if you could advise if you are aware of anyone who has succesfully applied or if you think it may be worth while, albeit I understand that the decsion lies with a pannel of medical professionals. calNgary Posted November 13, 2013 Share Posted November 13, 2013 Plenty of people have moved here with medical conditions so don't rule yourself out to soon. Normally once your medical is submitted you are sent for 'further investigation', for me this basically meant going to see a Liver specialist of their choice. All he did was a quick examination and then wrote a report on my condition, medication etc (i had submitted a letter from my specialist stating all this with my medical,lol),i must have been deemed 'OK' s we recieved our PR visa's a few weeks later. My problem is not that I am too ill to migrate, because my opinion is that I'm quite well and have remained so for years (and touch wood it may continue,) but, I will be on medication for the rest of my life and it's the wooly area of it being a financial burden on the Australian economy. I see my specialist at the hospital every few months too. I wasnt the main applicant but not sure if this changes things. We did use an agent for our application and they were great, but even they said with medical conditions they cannot really say which way it will go. However I know that the criteria for PR is different and they aren't sure what will happen when they apply for that. Who is the agent on here who is supposed to be good with medical conditions? No one can tell you until they tot up the cost to the tax payer of all the medications you take and any potential transplants or whatever. Bear in mind that a 457 is a temporary visa and the medical criteria are considerably more stringent for PR so you may find yourself stymied at that point which could be an even bigger disappointment for you. Just because you've been temp and loved it has absolutely no bearing on your capacity to pass the PR medical. As a temp you may also have to pony up with enough to cover the health costs associated with your condition. Quinkla Posted November 15, 2013 Share Posted November 15, 2013 Bear in mind that DIAC works on averages. They are concerned about the average cost of a person with a particular condition. If 9 people will require nio treatment at all in the next five years but one will require a procedure that costs $1m, they will average it out to say that a person with that condition will cost an estimated $100,000 over the next 5 years. Therefore, you want your specialist to explain why you are not like the others with your condition and why the average cost of someone like you will be less than the average cost of someone with your condition. Five years is the magic time period - what happens after that is irrelevant, and you definitely want to get a statement that you have a zero chance (or near zero chance) of needing an organ transplant within five years.
