Yvonne HornbyTurner
Hi everyone I am moving to Brisbane in 4 weeks and I am taking all my hand and power tools, I know they need to be clean, but how clean do they need to be to pass through Australian quarantine. Does my hammer and chisels need to be gleaming or can I just clean them with jays fluid. Thanks :err:
rammygirl
AS long as there are no particles of wood or organic matter on them they will be OK. People talk about Jayes fluid but the smell can really penetrate everything so personally I would not use it. A good wash in detergent will be fine. Even Jayes will not remove fine wood dust so do be careful with saw blades as they do tend to harbour these.
meaks
No problem, make sure you clean the boxes as well. I used jayes fluid then lubed up with some silicone lubricant with mine, that stops it rusting and gives it a 'as new' shine. I used jayes as when they open the box a good whiff of that is proof you have given it a good scrub. I brought a spindle moulder and surface planer amongst pretty much every bit of kit you can imagine and had no worries.
