RIGHT GUYS!!! my mum just got her stuff delivered last week! WE ARE HORRIFIED! So much exp furniture has been broken or scraped and there is a box missing with china sets ALSO one couch pillow is missing! She paid for insurance yet they say to her that they cannot compensate but only send her furniture to be fixed! She also paid for a whole container but we are suspecting that they shared a container without telling us...I think I cannot publicly say what the company name is but if you message me I can tell you who they are so you don't pick them.

Also if anyone has been in this position could you advise me on what steps we can take if they don't compensate us sufficiently?

I am a Director of Insure-Your-Move.com

As an aside, as a provider of a service, if a customer has a particular gripe with our service we do not have a problem if this is publicly aired as long as we able to respond and demonstrate how we rectified the situation. I think most people accept that from time to time things do, unfortunately, go wrong but it is how the Company addresses the problem and is actually seen to address the problem so it is not repeated that really counts. Are we alone, as a company, in thinking this way and that customers should always come first?

You are right.... If I read about a company that made a mistake and then read that they put things right to the customers satisfaction then I wouldn't be put off using them in fact it would make me more likely to use them knowing that mistakes do happen in all things but if you are wiling to do the right thing then i would be happy to use your services.... I understand the legal issues naming companies but if it is people's experience they are talking about and they have proof then it makes sense to warn others of what way companies are treating people.... It is a massive part of the adventure and can really get people off to a bad start.... Same with migration agents ripping people off and not doing their job right (even more reason to name them)....

I would still maintain that there are no shipping companies that are on the whole any better of any worse than any other. I have read good and bad stories of most of them. If one company consistently got thing wrong then they would be out of business by now.

Of course, considering the number of containers that are shipped each year, there are going to be problems from time to time and I think most people should expect that at least something will be damaged in the move, hopefully 99% will not be though.

My advice, get three quotes from the main players and go with the cheapest.

I am pleased that you have finally got this resolved and I can understand your frustration at being told all your items would fit only to discover they wouldn't. However having just had our stuff packed and the container filled a couple of weeks ago I would advise everyone to have your house totally ready the day they arrive, it is not practical to ask them to start in one place, we had 4 guys on our job, 2 went upstairs and 2 worked downstairs. There is not space to make up boxes and all work in one place. Put everything you don't want packed in a cupboard/wardrobe with a large sign stuck to the door saying do not pack and leave the rest to the professionals. All our bedding and last minute essentials were put in one box at the very last minute, I don't understand why they would ever be spread over various boxes, given the time-frame the packers are working too this is just going to delay things for them too much.

Guest The Pom Queen
BTW I'm not aware of any law about not being able to say publicly on the internet that you had a bad expereice with a company - plenty of Forums dedicated to just that! Cheers

Well please feel free to name and shame on another forum, unless you can donate a few million to pomsinoz to fight any legal threats, that should last us a few months

For some reason I can't PM you. Can you try sending me a PM and then I can respond.

Thanks

I think you need to have posted a set numbem of times before you are allowed to PM. Beeps only has 5 posts so that may be the problem......

[h=2]Moving Home back to oz[/h]

I am moving back to OZ next month and am looking for some help, i have been quoted £2950.00 door to door for my container from a company and an extra 850.00 for my car but i have to pick it up from the port. They supply boxes also. Please can i have your opinion on this???

Would very much appreciate it.

My opinion would be as follows:

1. There are a lot of people on here who are experts. I am not one of them. I cannot say whether the quote you have been given for your container is good or bad as I do not know the size of your container, nor where you are going from and to. Even if I did, I would not be able to say if it is a good price or not. A good price does not necessarily equate to a good service and a good service is possibly the most important thing.

2. You need to get two or three quotes from different companies. Look through the threads on here and pick companies who come highly recommended. Examples are John Mason and Doree Bonner. I did not use either of them. I wish I had.

3. As far as your car goes, you should ask the question on the Transport and Shipping thread as there is a chap who has a sticky on there who specialises in helping people import their cars from the UK. It is not just the cost of transport, you also have to get an import licence and then the car has to pass all the local tests before you put it on the road. It is not simply a case of going to the port, picking it up and driving it off. Try this thread as a starting point: http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/transport-shipping/138727-worth-bringing-my-car-iron-ladys-trusty-new-calculator-reveals-all.html.

Sorry I can't be more help, but I hope this may point you in the right direction.

Good luck!

Many thanks i have got three quotes and had several chats with these guys they are cheapest i have got so far for a 40ft container also. I do realise that there is allot of implications with regards to importing the car but we are very attached to it and would like to think we can use back home
