Have you looked at Australian rental sites - this will give you an indication of the proportion of your salary you would be paying. It would be very tight with a family that size - I think. Could be wrong?

So candy what did you insure for in the end? Were they happy with your valuation in the end?? Did you book with insure your move?

Ok ok I know how long is a piece of string! but just interested if you took a 20 foot container. Average 3 bedroom home. Nothing of too high value just the standard stuff. I would like to get an idea of the amount you insured for (before I get out my pencil and calculator!) and I'm going to use 'insure your move' - confused though that they don't require the detailed inventory. How do they know what is covered? what about breakages etc.

So I have read horror stories about custom charges for shipping/inspecting cleaning outdoor stuff. Is it true? anyone successfully shipped bikes? Trampoline? Outdoor furniture? Without the hefty charges? seems silly to eBay them for practically nothing only to replace in oz. what was your experience?

Are you planning on doing a runner and not paying your debts? why can't you continue to pay them from oz?

I can't believe this company are still trying to get money. Email I received today saying they will hold the price until close of business tomorrow 'however the rates are going constantly at the moment so would need the booking from you in order to hold it'

My partner and I run a uk based business together. We are moving back to oz to live. We want to keep the business running and if all goes well can do most of this online. partner will probably travel out few times a year. What we don't know how things will work tax wise? Will we just declare all uk income in Australia? do we do tax here separately? im hoping that uk income will be enough to live off initially anyway. I know we will have to meet with accountant but wondered if anyone was doing the same thing? How it worked or any suggestions? We are both Australian citizens but will have dual citizenship by then. In terms of figures we each got about £45000 gross each last year.

I think self pack will never work for me, don't have the man power to help pack it and decided to take more furniture which I know I couldn't pack properly. £5000 to £5500 for full pack for me better start saving!!

I think employer is just offering temp to cover themselves. More than likely it would go permanent. Did you do the break up or your ex? What if you cancelled the oz trip to find out he does it again? You have a job to go to so it won't be long before you are getting an oz pay check and can pay back your loan. You can get one way ticket for £600 chrck out flat shares - as an Ozzie its definitely the done thing and can be great for your social life. Muy sis and her friend did house share twelve years ago -now both married to boys they lived with!! do what you want and what's best for you even if its just an adventure for a few years. (I bet your settled friends would happily swap places with you!!)

Yeah that's what I thought. Might get Costings on 20ft to compare although I think it might be too big? Im not in major cities either side but uk home is 40km from London hardly the sticks!

Any more mathematically minded individuals than me!?! I am trying to work out the real cost of shipping to oz. ie each packing box is £00 in shipping. the dresser? Not so sentimental replace when I arrive! I have cheapish furniture (ikea) so taking it all probably doesn't make sense or does it? this is a one way trip and I know I am not coming back. So nothing is going in storage here. I take it or its sold/charity or bin! It is myself and two about to start school boys. Family have beds in oz already for us. So I could get it down to just stuff!

So my quote has come in at £3300. More than expecting for self pack?
