  1. Haven't felt well for all of December. Cold after cold. Or one long cold. Not sure, but felt like two. Haven't been sick sick, but just bloody miserable. Been walking, but nothing too strenuous. Coughing and continuously blowing my nose. Finally seems to be drying up. Maybe next week I might be able to do some proper exercise. Still. It's a good excuse for drinking whiskey. Tried monkeys shoulder for the first time. It's not a bad drop for a blend.

    No pleasing some people.
  3. Maybe for the next global financial crisis they should let the banks fail, not bail everyone out and let all the prices reset? Maybe, I don't know. I just don't see how this can go on.

We have had quite a bit, but the garden isn't boggy, which is unusual. So maybe we haven't had as much as I thought.
  5. I was going to query that as my youngest was offered them free in the UK.
  6. I still haven't had a merry Christmas message from my father. He wasn't always a miserable old bastard. He was young once. He did send me a message to moan that I'd used all his broadband allowance up when I came to visit. So I can't complain I guess. Christmas was never much when I was young. But I try and make it special for my family. The meal is the big thing. Presents not so much now they are older. Quizzes and games all day. Cards in the evening. Continues into boxing day, and again on new year. My wife is really into it, and the kids love it. I hope they continue the traditions when I'm gone. We can but hope.
  7. If you cook, then you certainly don't do dishes. Are your family Australian? Australians aren't subtle. They don't take a hint. You have to be blunt.
  8. That's not necessarily true. But you would need to go through a specialist, and it would cost more. You're run of the mill insurance company probably wouldn't cover. The cost may make you consider other alternatives, but it's probably worth getting a quote. I think even some of the comparison websites may do non UK residents.
  9. I do too, but the hassle of collecting bags and going back through check in is a turn off. Did someone mention airport pods? Would be interested if people have experience of those.
  10. Jesus! I don't know what would be worse. The journey or the destination?
  11. I just use my father's concession card. No one has ever questioned it. Not sure if I should be worried about that?
  12. Most of them just nick it. Should tell her to shove it down her pants next time and tell them she's trans if anyone questions it.
  13. I knew a guy who worked for Nokia and he had to go to Scandinavia a few times a year. He claimed for every hour, even when he was sleeping. But he had a brain the size of a planet, and I think they would have paid him anything. Sort of depends on your negotiating powers I guess.
  14. Go on. Do the dance. You know you want to.
  15. I believe you can do it for 2/50 weeks without any issues, and I often do work a couple of weeks in the other country. I'm not sure if this is a reflection of the UK summer.
  16. If you had a decent VPN. Most companies don't like you doing that for tax reasons. If you didn't mind lower paid jobs you could do it easily. Both countries are screaming for lower paid jobs. Could be harder with skilled. I've seen some companies take 3 months to hire someone. What sort of work do you do? When you get certain skills, companies often want continuity.
  17. "Bagging"? Don't think I've heard that before. Is it a Tassie term?
  18. I think you need to drive for around 200 hours and keep a log book. Basically the rules are the same, except they undertake on the left, you can't park on the opposite side of the road, and merging is a nightmare. But the traffic is much lighter. In fact, if you can drive in England, this should be a walk in the park. But the tests do seem to be quite hard.
  19. They already know where the money came from. They're watching you! They have eyes and ears everywhere.
  20. It's true that many things are different economically since the 70s. MMT, gold backed currencies, banking and central banks are all very different. But the underlying principles that increasing interest rates will slow investment, stall growth, lower demand, thus lowering inflation should hold, even though there will be a temporary increase in housing costs.
  21. Do you have a permanent home if you are renting it out? Not being picky, just thought that could be something they object to?
  22. I thought that's why they invented covid? To reduce the number of old people? Is this not so?
