  1. Maybe each council is different I worked for a housing association in 2003 and they had benefit advisors the habitual resident interview with Dhss always had to be done to claim any benefit It even applied to a rates rebate in our situation We had the interview and were told no you can not be classed a resident despite the information we gave them I appealed and we were eventually given residency status We eventually got a rates rebate but even that was a nightmare as the council offices hadn't a clue !
  2. You MIGHT get housing benefit but you would most certainly have to go through the habitual residents interview etc i know in the north east a lot of council houses have been taken over by social landlords and unless your classed as homeless there are long lists Even being classed as homeless is extremely hard especially if you have left Australia to go back to the uk they often see that as making yourself homeless ! Again in the north east there are plenty of private rentals at around £100 to £ 150 a week but if you don't qualify for housing benefit that's a big chunk from a pension
  3. Marisa I have sent a pm to the op and she has said she will email me so I can try to explain exactly what we have and have not done To me she will need some sound advice from Centrelink on her actual percentage of benefits so she can then assess what benefits the UK might give Apart from anything else leaving a child no matter what age can cause problems in gaining Habitual Residency which will be needed for any benefit claim If the ladies uk pension is not up to the national average then there is pension credit but the residency bit kicks in then
  4. It will be fine you need to change on iCloud too if you have any apple products
  5. Centrelink needs to be informed of any potential move before the lady moves Marisa and it's best to get information in writing prior to the move centrelink do give appointments with a financial planner that might be the way to go i am afraid I trust nothing said over the phone I always ask for whatever info in writing I will pm pommysheila and give her my email I might be better able to advise that way The thing is she will get conflicting information in the uk too because they don't know how the Aussie system works I was told one time Fays paid us our pensions Fays is socials services !
  6. Kindle was flat grrr but we do have gas and a wood fire so not totally without utilities last power cut we bought water containers so we were a bit better prepared but now will leave some water in buckets around the place for a loo flush ! Candles and torches we also stocked up from the first cut What was annoying is one end of the road were on was back on after a few hours but we were not
  7. The Centrelink pension workout is they multiply 35 years by months ie 420 months Then they work out your entitlement by months ie if you had 10 years you would have 120 months They then work that out as a percentage Your U.K. pension might go up based on your years between 1989 to ? ( not sure when you went back last ) However if what you get from Centrelink added to what you get from the Uk now adds up to the current full U.K. Pension you won't get an increase from the uk
  8. Sheila your Centrelink pension would be payable in th UK but would depend on your time in Oz ie you need 35 years between the age of 16 and retirement to be paid a full pension depending on entitlement though you should still get part pension When did you emigrate originally a lot depends on age at emigration
  9. All depended on which suburb you live ? Kangarilla we were without power for 22 hours last time it was 40 hours The rain was horrendous I have nerve in over 30 years seen anything like it our worst problem is no electric we have no water as it's rainwater pumped through Generator being bought soon for sure
  10. Forgot to say talk to your shipper and maybe have the car cleaned prior it going to AQUIS Our shipper took it to AQUIS and didn't clean it so it was knocked back ,we paid $870 to have it cleaned and it was knocked back !! Third time lucky after a second clean it got through but the delays meant it took a month to get the car on the road 2006 we brought our ford back and had it valeted in the uk prior to shipping waste of time as AQUIS still insisted it was steam cleaned twice you will also need an import permit I think it was around $50 and we had to upload a photo of the compliance plate with the application Make sure too you have the original purchase papers etc so there will be no customs payable as you have owned it for over 12 months
  11. We have just brought our Holden Captiva back to SA and all we had to do was have an ID Check as it had been previously registered here and was Australian plated we had deregistered it prior to leaving SA but it was quite easy to have it checked and back on the road If you did not deregistered it you might get away with just a change over for States
  12. They will most certainly put him through hoops you would need to go through the habitual residency test before claiming benefits -you have the right of abode being citizens Residency is a different ball game !
  13. Its time spent in Australia between the age of 16 and retirement that counts towards Centrelink pensions With a UK pension they would top up the pension based on the reciprocal agreement pre 2001 but I think you would need to declare are super pensions which would eliminate them topping the UK pension up You can pay back 'stamps' as they used to call them which could give you a full UK pension at retirement but its quite costly
  14. Check with the insurance company that they will still pay as your ticket is one way Some insurers will only pay out if the you start and finish the journey in your country of origin
  15. It's not quite as simple as just turning up in the UK with a UK passport and getting benefits There is the right of abode which you have with the U.K. Passport and then to claim benefits you need to prove you are resident In your sisters case does she have any family in Australia ? Some disablility pensions from Australia are payable overseas but reading the online information is seems only payable if the diaboity is severe and prevents anyone from working
  16. How old is your sister , is she pension age in Australia if she is her Centrelink pension if she has one would be portable ie she could get it in the UK as long as she claims it first in Australia Did your sister ever work in the UK would she have any national insurance contributions ?
  17. We showed out uk licence ,back in 2006 mind , and were given full Aussie ones dint have to hand uk licences in though That's in SA
  18. We just had a friends stopped for over two hours because he had a one way ticket and flew into the UK on his Aussie passport ( done after an emergency in Oz saw him have to cancel his return ticket ) His uk passport expired years ago ,he will now renew it ,but he said he was given a reall grilling for a while We inadvertently showed UK passports on the way out to Oz one time and we were immediately pulled up and had to produce or Aussie passports as there was now visa in the UK passport Far easier to have both and travel easy
  19. He needs to have Rabies jabs and there is an age limit ? Then he can't travel until 180 days after the RNNAT - blood test for rabies Look on the AQUIS site for full details it's not an easy excercise to take a dog to Oz and it's not a pet passport you need it's totally different
  20. In SA long service after 10 years is 13 weeks - prorata after 7 years
  21. If you go online I think there it shows what you can and can't claim for You may be eligible for the disability pension but not get it paid as you work full time ( hope that makes sense ) Or you could ring them and they will post firms to you to take to your GP or specialist to show how your condition affects your day to day living arrangements
  22. I get Irish ,Scottish Welsh in that order and I am English lol Hubby has had Italian ? Huh favourite is and it's happened in more than one restaurant we ask for a carafe of rose' and get a bottle of water
  23. Re your dogs have you set all of the necessary procedures in place as they need to be done on exact dates close to when your pets fly out
  24. It cost us $ 370 and $ 340 fees for disembarking and customs didn't rally read the fine print on the quote which stated these were separate Then it cost us $ 870 to steam clean our car as AQUIS knocked it back first time Thing is they also knocked it back scone time after it was cleaned !!!! It was cleaned again ( at no charge may I add ) and finally got through but the car was actually in Adelaide over a month before we had it on the road
