  1. Super is getting taxed at 95% apparently but i dont think as many people will be as bothered with that. The age limit being changed is a good idea

I reckon as a single bloke you would be ok for a year or 2. You could join a sports club or something? There sbould be some stuff to do. Even where i worked which was a lot more remote they had a few sports clubs. You could try looking for gold as a hobby lol
  3. Thinking of leaving Stratford upon heaven and moving there..?
  4. No, i changed my username last year
  5. I watched a program about ambulance crew in alice springs, looks interesting!
  6. Hey kylie! Was actually reading the healthcare student thread again the other day and wondered what you were upto so its nice to heae from you. I posted as scottishstacey then but you prob wont remember me. Glad to hear you're over there now! Have you got a permanent job in alice springs?
  7. Haha don't worry.. im the exact same. I was In a panic about immigration being scary like on TV lol but I ended up not even speaking to any of them at the desk. used the scanner instead
  8. You are bringing double the amount of most people so you're off to a good start! Plus have someone to share costs with which helps. My travel buddy got our van from a Australian company that were selling it, he didn't trust other backpackers haha. That's not to say that there wont be some good ones from backpackers. Yeah helpx (volunteering) is a good idea. theres some amazing places on it, I really regret not trying it out
  9. Your visa starts from the day you arrive in Australia
  10. Agree with flag - get the van/car checked out. Im afraid backpackers have a rep for ripping each other off with that sort of thing. I agree with pom queen about weather too. I went in february to cairns and although i had a good time if you can avoid that then i definitely would. It was ok when near the water but walking around towns was very sweaty lol, i went around with a face towel constantly haha. I only went because i wanted to meet a friend at that particular time but youve both got your whole year together so im sure youll plan it better than i did. Hope you have a great time, im jealous! The time goes so fast
  11. If you dont want to buy a car/van then theres always loads of people offering lifts. Some of my friends used the greyhound pass or a company called loka but they were single people looking to meet other people. Let me know if you have anymore questions i can help with
  12. Thats plenty money! Ive found hostels really eat your money up if you are staying in one long term. I wasted a lot of money on them. If you guys want to save money in one area then could try housesitting or couch surfing. For travelling around if you want to be able to stop anywhere you want then a campervan is probably the best idea. You can either rent from a company or buy one from another backpacker. I travelled down the east coast in a van and camped. On the west coast i travelled in a jeep and camped with 9 other people but i wouldnt go with such a big group again. If you want to do your 2nd year then definitely start it as fast as possible

    Kalgoorlie

I think i could live in it as a single person for a few years for the sake of PR if it was sponsorship but if i had a family i dont think id move them over there from the UK
  14. Definitely get insurance. Definitely make sure you have the money for a flight home wether its in cash or its a credit card

Its a decent size - seems to have most of the shops that you would need. Felt like london compared to leonora haha. I immagine it gets rough at weekend - just from the feeling, seeing kalgoorlie cops on tv and also speaking to people that lived there. Dont know about schools etc
  16. Thats where the guy i liked at my pub job was from lol. Im hoping to go back to ireland in a year or 2 for another visit. We only passed through Dublin so would like to go properly. I loved kerry when we went. Would love to go back and see fungi the dolphin too
  17. Ive thought about moving to ireland even just for a year but other then Dublin i wouldnt know where to live. The cost of living seems too expensive. I went around 7 years ago and it felt so expensive
  18. God they ruin scotland lol hate them. I thought i could feel a few the other day but no bites yet. I dont r remember getting too many bites though. Definitely a few but i got absolutely attacked by mosquitos on the east coast to the point that i was almost crying  Shame we cant get rid of midges and mosquitos in the world lol

  20. I dont know about extremely but yeah its pretty hard compared to australia and nz. As far as i know you make a profile and its like a lottery wether you get picked. Im not sure how that works with costs though if you dont get picked. So nz would be a much easier option if i did decide to do another WHV
  21. Ive lived in south england too but was too young to remember much of it. I dont think my parents found a drastic difference in winter. They decided to move back to scotland because they preferred it here
  22. VS you'll be living quite near me. Hope you enjoy!
  23. Well its felt like that on and off since ive been back. Was horribly humid yesterday
