  1. I pay $45 a month for the four of us with hcf for platinum extras and like i say got my money back already this also includes ambulance cover and much more so i feel definatly worth while. As for hosital cover i have researched and researched and cannot see the difference between medicare and nhs other than paying for prescriptions. We are aware we would be put on a list for non emergency surgery but this is the same in the UK! I work in both private and public hospitals in WA and cant see a difference. As for claiming money back its all been easy i just go to a bulk billing practice up the road and job done walk in appointments to much easier than UK. Claiming my extras was easy 2 just swiped my card and came up what i had to pay after the extra cover added so wasnt even out of pocket the full amount initially. As far as the children i know there is a free school dentist but only covers certain treatments not sure to what extent i am going to take mine to where i go though as we are insured and mycson needs braces at some point $$$$
  2. Aww we brought our uk playstation for our son but purchased the plus online here hope you sort it for him ...
  3. I recently emigrated on a 189 visa and have purchased platinum extra cover only which iam so glad i did! Recently had toothache and needed fillings, x rays and what not bill came to $1300! Private extras covered half thankfully so got my money back already! This was a shock as had a check up prior to leaving UK and no problems! Medicare as been good to everything minor as happened sinc we arrived after all being really healthy in the UK haha! Being a family of four we have each had to see the doctor and only had to pay for antibiotics, no additional charges! I also had a skin check as i have lots of moles and only had to pay half! Both children have had the vaccines required to oz with no charge and my son has kust fractured his foot no charge! Think the extras is required though for dentist, physio, ambulance etc !
  4. I would say really thick quilts for the beds as i struggle to find one here ended up putting two togeather but still not as thick and warm cold here in perth in the winter! Good luck with the move ?
  5. Hi and welcome have only been in perth since May and although very early days Marisa is spot on! We are a family of four age 36-40 with two children 12 and 14 and we love it! Wish I had made the move when the children were small however our finacial situation is much better now! It took us 9 months to gain a 189 vis and we emigrated 6 months after receiving it once all our lose ends were tied up,selling house etc! No visit prior for us we just thought the cost of a holiday would be a good start to a house deposit and what in reality was a 4 week holiday going to show us! We have done so much more as a family here and we are in winter and find we dont spend so much time warching tv ( mainly because its rubbish lol) In my experience cost of living is less than UK. Iam a nurse and I earn much more here however we are renting for a while to ensure we are all happy before we committ to buying but houses do seem expensive howevet you get much more for your money than uk! Not sure about education at the minute its early days but there does seem to be a lot of disruption in classes in the public school my two attend however they are both happy there and doing ok academically so will monitor this! Crime is much the same , research the areas you want to live and maybe yor friends can guide you! We have no family in perth but a few friends which really helped us settle! Overall we miss the family tremedously but our lives are so much better and in reality we will spend more quality time with them on visits than we do in the UK as its taken for granted! The inlaws have visited already for a four week period and even in winter they can see why we have made the move they return in jan for 5 weeks! I have come to the conclusion that i will never be 100% settled here in perth without our family as something will always be missing however the life we have here is so much better ( so far) and this is what i want for our kids and their kids abd so on, someobe has to make the move to build up a family connection here right haha. I say do it life is to short for regrets we talked about it for 15 years prior and knew if we didnt try we would regret it! Our thoughts were we will try if it doesnt work out we will go back and start again a bit tricky with my two due to their ages and education but they both agreed to the move and to the fact if we returned a year later they would go back a year in the UK! We ensured we had enough in the bank as emergency for flight home and i also got a 1 year career break in Uk so for me this would be relatively easy! One bit of advice is to save, save and save it takes so much pressure off knowing you have money in the bank and things can take a while for eg job interview 17 th july start sate 12 sept i have agency work so not a problem. Good luck to you and if i can help let me know! Lifes to short for regrets! Xx
  6. Hi all, just after some help! My husband as set up a buisness as a sole trader since emigrating in may. He doesnt work continuously as iam a nurse and the one with perment income therfore he works around me and there mostly for the children. Dont really want to pay for a tax agent as i think i can do this myself with some help from you guys! I have opened a savings account and have put any money earnt into this account ( his income only). My questions are 1) do i need to deposit all cash into the account and take out what we need or can i just put enough in to cover tax and super as all his income has been cash? 2) What do i need to keep a record on i have started a book and record price of job, materials spent and profit made, also kept receipts for material 3) do we pay tax on income or profit? Thanks Would be grateful for any advice

  11. Hi all, Finally got my first interview fir a registered nurse in WA in intensive care department! Coming from the UK I have no idea what the interview process is here in Perth! Reall nervous and would be very grateful for any tips. Thanks Loulou
  12. Good luck you will be fine! These feelings are normal just think of the new adventure you have worked hard to get and enjoy xx
  13. Yeah thats right iam also on a 189, we are all registered with medicare but i have decided to opt for extras insurannce only at present for dentist etc as these are quite expensive. I have 1 year to think about and look in to the benifits tax wise before it would affect us. Good luck.
  14. Always been proud to be welsh but this shows why great team work! (Not a fan of footie but always behind our boys) #togeatherstronger
  15. Aww can remember all this good luck both i been in perth now for 9 weeks! Yep basically thats it! Tip - i bought amaysin sim cards online for the four of us registered and topped up a day before leaving that way we all had working phones when we landed in oz and popped in our sims which helped to let family know we arrived safely. U have 3 months to get oz driving licence so no hurry for that but it is a good source of id. ABN was easy did it online for the husband and although no letter confirming he is active when i searched the abn register and that took less than 2 weeks. Medicare just went to the office with id for us all and tempory cards given straight away cards arrived 2 weeks later ( we used a friends address as we didnt have a permenant one then) TFN was also easy applied online and back within 14 days. Stressed over so much before arriving but everything was really easy. Good luck with it all, u will be here before you know it!

  20. Hi Adrian and welcome, my professional reference included where I worked, full or part time employment, a brief job description , courses I have attended and a little character reference, signed and dated and on official letter head paper. If I remember rightly I photocopied it and had it certified and used the same one for Aphra! Not very in depth at all and no issues with it. It was approx two pages long! Hope this helps, good luck.. Loulou
  21. Hi Larad86 mgreaves is a star really helpful info this application has been harder than anything visa wise.... I completed IELTS to show my English competency. I attached the letter from the site to both uni and NMC for completion and they forwarded to AHPRA NMC charges £34 so if you are completing anmac skills assessment to add to form or they charge twice as they did with me, do this Adam because they take ages, they send form then you send back I attached the template letter with the request, then they forward to oz) Certified list: degree certificate and academic transcripts clinical hours letter stating pharmacokinetics etc IELTS passport driving licence bank statement marriage licence statement of service, just had mine done like a reference which stated my job role, employment length of time and hours worked other documents not certified: cv fit 2 work Sending mine as soon as I receive my certified copies back so fingers crossed, good luck.
  22. Hi xxlornaxx just wondering if AHPRA will accept the full outline of the degree from myself as my uni as sent it to me ? Think I have finally sorted everything ..... Thanks Loulou
