  1. Hi, im going to view a car later (only a cheap one). can someone advise if I should pay by cash or bank transfer? Or bankers cheque. Also i know I need road safety certificate- will I end up needing to pay any other costs. I read something about paying tax on it? And I pressume the owner will send away the document to transfer the name into mine.
  2. when doing your list its worth adding ** once you receive your p45 from employer you can send it off to HMRC to claim tax back in that year. we filled our form out ready for when we got our p45 a few days before leaving. Posted it off and got tax back in our account few weeks later into our bank. **also i would really recommend having some copies of passports-birth certificates-(and have copies ready on your computer to upload online for anything) they really do come in handy- and save time once your here in those first few weeks.
  3. hi, i was just wondering, i have been In Oz 6 weeks now. (i am australian citizen from birth but dual nationality and been living in uk most of adult life) Should i not be able to find work soon, would i be entitled to some form of job seekers benefits while job searching? Do you have to be back in the country so long? Other half is now working
  4. Hi, My husband is English on a skills 189 visa. I am an Australian citizen from birth. Im really wondering about whether getting private health insurance should be quite important for me to arrange as soon as arriving in Australia? (aswell as medicare obviously which I will do within days of arriving) Im not quite sure how the private health insurance works in Australia. So ifsomeone could clarify that would be great.
  5. Hi, We are moving to Oz in 2 weeks time and was hoping to buy a car within the first few days of arriving. Can we buy a car and get insurance without an address? which we wont have for a month or 2. thanks in advance
  6. Hi all, So its just 2 weeks till we are emigrating to Australia.(gold coast,QLD) Just wondered some advice on things I need to do once in oz or have I forgotten anything that needs doing in those first few weeks? 1-already got bank set up car hire from airport for 1week,place to stay for 3 weeks. 2- GET A TFN number- looks like this can be done online, or at post office. 3- I need to buy a car- I wont have an address when we arrive- can we buy a car/get insurance without an address straight away? & get road tax,Insurance, and recovery insurance 4-Get driving license changed to AUStralian ( think I read have up to 3months to change) 5- get a rental house- 6- sort Medicare out which I think I just go into a Medicare to do. 7- Sim cards for Uk phones which are unloked 8- Possible private healthcare insurance
  7. Hi, Im dual nationality. So have both passports. Would I use my English passport to go to Dubai (am stopping for few days),then arriving in Dubai, then leaving Dubai to aus Then just use my Australian once I get to Australia? thanks
  8. Hi, could someone just clarify. Husband is on 189 skills visa We are emigrating next month. (it was granted in Feb). Can he come back for holidays as and when he likes? eg. for holidays 2-3 weeks maybe twice a year max. and would this time be deducted off. I think I have read that you need to live in Australia for 4 years to get citizenship. Does this need to be continuous? As the 4years would be close, so possibly we will have to get a resident return visa once 5years is up. But hopefully in 5years time they will be easy to get still.
  9. Hi, We are emigrating to aus next month and im still a little unsure what to do with travel insurance. Basically stopping at Dubai for 3 days on the way. As soon as you look at Emigration insurance/or one way the price is about 10 times the amount. looks like at least £130 for a couple (and you still have to put dates to and from so I just put 2 weeks as once in oz we will be covered by medicare. And only looking at £25 for normal travel insurance. Has anyone had experience with this. Is emigration insurance absolutely nessassary.. should anything ever happen I need to make sure I have the right insurance. once I arrive in aus (I am Australian.partner on skills visa all should be medicare I presssme)
  10. Hi sorry to crash the post. Just wondered I think I read somewhere some states have free ambulance cover. We are moving to Queensland- Does anyone know if this is correct?
  11. i didn't really think of how tiring 2 flights in one week would be. Thanks for pointing that out. Maybe will add a few more days /week to the trip. I was just more concerned about visiting family over xmas with needing as little a time off work as possible really . flight prices are so expensive at xmas. Maybe visiting in January or feb might be cheaper option if I can wait till then
  12. hi all, anyone come back to uk for xmas? We are emigrating to oz in July, but planning to come home for a week at xmas. Flights are around £2300 for 2 adults at the moment. Are flights likely to go up alot if I book closer to the time? as unsure of plans at the moment/jobs ect.
  13. Hi, Just wondered if anyone had any experience travelling with Quantas and Emirates, It looks like it is 30kg each. If there is only 2 of us can we have 3 big suitcases? or are you only allowed 1 suitcase each? really want to use the full 30kg each
  14. I was actually thinking exactly the same thing- I just look looked and it is about £120 for travel insurance by just putting 1 way on STA and DUISURE- OUCH!
