  1. Fingers crossed for you! We started this process this time last year, I sent my paperwork to vetassess and got a positive result 2 weeks later, was so quick, I had a massive wait for my certificate from vetassess it was about 5 months. We had planned to do a 489 in queensland but by the time it came round to it it had been taken off, I was gutted. Luckily I've found a great employer in tasmania who is willing to sponsor me for permanent residency and we are just at the start of the process, it will take 6 months to grant once we've put our application in. Things can change so quickly, my advice would be do as much revision as you can for the technical, I found it really hard. Put as much evidence as you can in your paper part and get it in as soon as you can! Especially if you have a preferred state! Have you been to oz before?
  2. No problem. I haven't had to do my ielts as I'm now hoping for a 186 visa in tassie, I can't do the 190 as I have miss he 5 year post qualification experience by a couple of months, and I don't have enough funds for the NT 190. Hope you get the results you want in your ielts! When are you putting in your vetassess?
  3. Ps where are you heading?
  4. Have a read of my thread 'any hairdressers out there applying for vetassess' that will give you an idea good luck
  5. I had forgotten to get one certificate certified and they asked me to send it within a certain number of days, it could depend on what they feel is missing though
  6. You would have to do a vetassess skills assessment first which consists of two parts, the first is the paper part. I had to send my cv, proof of employment, employer references, qualifications all of which needed to be certified by a professional. I sent pictures and videos of all types of hairdressing techniques, there's a list of what they require and it involves cutting, different colouring techniques, perming, facial shaving, chemical straightening etc then the second part is a Skype interview which I won't lie, it was intense! Have a read of the hairdresser thread listed above, me and a few other girls have written everything we did and what questions we had, it will give you an idea of what's involved. With the NT they want a proof of funds too which for us was $50,000 which we don't have. I'm a few months short of 5 years post qualification experience so Tasmania is just out of reach and out qld option was taken off the list in November. I have an employer in tassie who's looking into a 186 visa so fingers crossed! If you are thinking of going down the hairdressing route id start immediately, vetassess took me 8 months from start to getting my certificate and you never know what's going to happen to the csol or sol list.
  7. you will need a skills assessment, you'll need to prove qualifications, work experience and you'll need to provide videos of you doing different hairdressing techniques. There are only 2 states currently sponsoring hairdressing the NT and Tasmania and from my experience it is tough getting in!
  8. From my experience you need to be open to any kind of job, it's tough on a working holiday visa as the others have said, you can only work for an employer for 6 months. I did jobs that I never thought I would do but it made it a fun experience. As for the visa I applied for mine on a Tuesday night and had it approved first thing Wednesday morning!
  9. Yeah we know that is the case for the 187 too. Not overly keen on a 457, it would be our very last resort. If the 186/187 doesn't work out then we will be looking to gain pr in New Zealand, only then if that fails would we consider a 457!
  10. Thanks for your reply, I did think that would be the case, but wanted to double check! It is obviously a big ask for a company and I'm unsure of whether my employer would want to go ahead with it, I do have a contract with her already so I thought it was worth an ask!
  11. Hi guys, Hoping someone can help me! My partner and I were due to apply for a 489 in QLD until my occupation was taken off the list for the state. Before we decided on Qld, I had a job offer from an employer in Tasmania. We are pretty stuck with our options and have started looking into employer sponsored visa's. We would prefer a 186/187 but understand this can be a lot of work for the employer which they may not want to do, if that is the case then fair enough. What I would like to know is when applying for a 186/187 you need to declare that you have the intention of working for that employer for 2 years, what would happen if I didn't for any reason, such as taking a different job, or that job not lasting for 2 years? Thanks in advance, Vicki.
  12. Haha ah that's ok! Yeah I'm from the UK, had a working holiday in oz and nz and loved both, must say I would prefer Australia over Nz but not sure if that's possible yet. Yeah we are with go Matilda but have put a stop on moving forward at the moment and have just contacted a nz agent, think we will look at going there instead now! Where would you look at moving to in the NT? My partner has been to Darwin and he said it was really nice, just the humidity, but it's not forever! Have you been to oz before?
  13. Hi shells, my partner and I were looking to go to the NT after Queensland was taken off the list but we need proof of $50,000 which we don't have, and we can only apply for a 489 as we don't have family in the NT, so we are now looking into alternatives! Congrats on vetassess that's great news! Have you put your eoi in yet?
  14. Thankyou! I'm sorry, but I can't tell you what I answered, to be honest I don't really remember as I did mine a while ago, but it would be unfair for me to tell you the answers. If you have experience as a hairdresser you should be ok.
  15. Yeah that's it, it's a Skype interview that lastsfor up to 2 hours, mine was about an hour and a half. They ask you lots of different questions like the ones laura and I have posted here. They'll ask you to explain how you would do certain things etc. have a google of Aussie hairdressing units so you can get an understanding of their expectations of a level 3 hairdresser. I won't lie, I found it quite full on but as long as you revise well you should be fine. My partner and I are looking at the NT too but we are struggling to find $50000 to prove for the application. I hope you don't mind me asking but do you have family in the NT? It's just our agent told us we could only apply for the 489 unless you have family there which we don't. you should get your date within the next few days id say! Are you doing it in Manchester?
  16. Hi sony i can't remember anything else they asked me sorry I think most of the questions I was asked I've already put down. My advice is just revise everything from your nvqs and familiarise yourself with the Aussie units too. Which visa are you applying for?
  17. Just because it is much closer to me and I have the that day off work already! If I don't succeed then I'd will be taking the pte it just means a much further travel time. Yes they need certified copies of bank accounts, bonds, valuations etc and they want proof of $50,000 which we don't have
  18. I completely feel for you. My partner and I were all set for a 489 to qld under hairdresser, just signed up to our agent booked my ielts booked for next month, our other options are the territory or tassie. But I don't have enough experience for tassle and not enough funds for the nt. At least you have other options
  19. I did mine with vetassess, my skills assessment was positive 2 weeks after they received my docs, and then went on to do my technical. It took 4 months to get my certificate though.
  20. Hi all, I have my general IELT's test booked for November, I did have the option to do PTE, but the IELTs centre is much closer to me and coincided with my days off from work. I need 7 in each band, which I was fairly confident on until I started doing some research, and now I'm starting to worry that I won't be able to achieve it. I'm doing an online course and doing the 30 hours you get with applying, and I have also ordered a book to help me. So far I am finding the questions in speaking task 3 hard to answer, and the reading test I am loosing concentration on, which I know I shouldn't! I've briefly looked at writing and found this is the one most people struggle with. I'm starting to panic and I'm not very good at exams so if anyone has any tips or pointers, please feel free to share

    Go matilda are brilliant
  22. I used STA insurance but didn't have to go in, just applied online
  23. We've just started using them and so far they have been brilliant!
  24. Hi lauren, that's great news! My only concern would be taking children over on a 457, your completely reliant on the employer and if they let you go you only have 90 days to find another employer willing to sponsor you or you'll have to return home. If you could id recommend going for the permanent residency visa as it offers more stability for your family. im not sure about the skills assessment, have you spoken to a rma?
