  1. Nobody knows what's best for you and your family like your family does. I went to Australia for a year after meeting my partner there and I was adamant I was only going for a year. I didn't want to live there permanently, or look at moving I was just happy going for a year to fulfil my dream. I'm now planning my permanent return as I feel it does offer a better lifestyle, maybe not for everyone but certainly for me. you can ask others what they think you should do but truth is no one will know other than you and your family. my point is, I was like your wife, albeit I was going for a lot longer, but it can change your perspective. I say if she is willing to do the holiday, go, at least you won't regret seeing the country. And you know what? You might not even like it.
  2. Have a look at anzscosearch.com to see if your occupation is on any list
  3. Sorry just seen these! Fingers crossed for you I hope you get to apply! Laura can I be nosy and ask how you can apply for a 187 in wa, I've had a job offer but cuz it wasn't a state sponsoring hairdressers I haven't taken it up? Sure is a public thread feel free to join in
  4. Did you find out how many years experience they gave you? I've just received my cert III and was expecting them to tell me but apparently they do not?
  5. Hi guys, I've recently received a positive assessment from vetassess and just wondered if they had advised you on how many years experience they gave you to claim points for? I was under the impression that they gave you that along with the cert III, but apparently not? I want 5 years experience for qld, which I have in this country but not sure how I find out what I have been given by them, any ideas?!
  6. Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me I'm a bit confused! I have just received my cert III and assessment outcome letter from vetassess after a very long wait! But I was under the impression that they gave you the number of years experience that you can claim for, after contacting them to ask they told me that they do not do this. How do I know how many years experience I can claim? I have worked in my profession for 8 years, 5 years post qualification. I want to go to qld which requires 5 years experInce whereas the nt require less, does anyone know where I can get this information from?! Thanks guys
  7. Ah how exciting! I'm so jealous!! check your junk box as ours had come through to our junk boxes without us realising for over a week!
  8. Honestly it is amazing! I didn't really want to go, but in a way I prefer it to oz. But you cant really compare them they're so different! We might use our 2nd whv and go back whilst we wait, were bored of the UK again now, we haven't been home long it's just so miserable over here!
  9. It's just amazing, but so different to oz! I'll be honest though, I hated Auckland, we were there for 10days and I couldn't wait to leave. We had gone straight from oz so I was a bit gutted to be leaving but there wasn't really anything in the city. They don't really do shopping, it was just so different. But that was the only place I didn't like, we travelled both the north and south and I loved everywhere else. I'd go back to the south island without a doubt, you've gotta go see queenstown and Wanaka, and in the north taupo and rotorua. I wanna live in Hanmer springs though in the south. Having said that, we struggled to get paid work, and most of the jobs are in the north particularly Auckland, so it's a good place to go and earn some money!
  10. is that the kangan form? I sent mine back before I did my technical and it's still being processed! Ah I love new Zealand. We're actually looking into migration options over there, we still have another year whv visa were entitle to, which we may use! Have you been to NZ before?
  11. sorry I have only just seen this! I'm still waiting, since the 5th May. I contacted them a couple of weeks ago to ask how long it will be and they were still waiting for my results to be processed. It's so annoying cuz I cant move on without it! I have no idea how many years experience they've given me and I need the letter of invitation to submit my EOI!
  12. Oh yay Laura that's great news well done I know, as far as I can see none of the states have changed for hairdressers, but by the time we get our certificates you never know it might have changed again! Be prepared for a long wait for it, they are still processing my results
  13. Hi guys, Just wondering how long everyone had to wait for their cert III to come from Vetassess? I have been waiting 6 weeks now! Thanks! Vicki.
  14. Hi girls, ah yay that's good news Laura! Great you don't have to fly over here again! Ah how exciting edel, it won't take long then for you to get your date! I'm still waiting for my certificate from vetassess, I've heard they can take a long time to come through and I'm a bit stuck without that at the moment, I've no idea how many years experience they have given me so can't go ahead with my eoi yet!
  15. I felt awkward talking to the camera too! But it's worth it in the end! I also did sheets with photos on of me doing certain things and writing about it, such as a perm, I couldn't find anyone to have a proper perm so I took a few photos of sectioning and winding on my mum and wrote about it, which is handy of you can't find anyone got certain things!
  16. Laura sounds like she did it all properly! I got my bf to film it on my iphone, just a few minutes of each thing I was demonstrating and talked about what I was doing and why as I did it, I then strung it all together using Microsoft movie maker! I also wrote a couple of paragraphs in my paper work explaining it all, although I said it all on the vid. Let us know how you get on!
  17. Hi Kirsty welcome to poms in oz I agree with Laura, get advice from a migration agent. Go Matilda are brilliant, highly recommended on here and I have been using them recently and they have been great so far. Have a look on anzscosearch type in 391111 for hairdresser and you can see which states are sponsoring hairdressers and what each state requires, it's really helpful.
  18. There isn't much work in New Zealand, my partner and I struggled to find anything paid and ended up working for accommodation. There is a lot of work in Auckland, I just didn't like it there at all! To gain a New Zealand residence visa you also need a job offer which can be hard! so is the answer to the chemical straightening question, pull the hair? I would freak if I did that as I thought it meant it was over processed/damaged? I want to ask for feedback on my technical interview but may wait until I have the aqf III incase they change their mind!! Just had word from go Matilda they are happy to take us on as they think we have a good chance first stop ielts yay!!
  19. Yeah we have a joint bank account in New Zealand since August, and one in the UK since December. And we can prove bank transfers between us since May 2013, and rent for the same address from Jan 14 - July 14. We have been living at home though since we came home, and haven't been paying any official rent, which might be hard to prove I guess. Although we move into our own place next week until we leave for oz, so we might have to live there for a while before submitting an eoi. It's such a lot of money isn't it! We will have to do the same, we have roughly $20,000 between us, but they are in UK ISA's etc. I'm not sure how it works with loaning the money from a family member, we will have to do the same but I don't see why it would matter! No I don't think we will either, I'm hoping a 190 in qld will come up! or SA, I loved it there. I only have 4 years post experience though and I'm no longer and employed hairdresser, which might not help me, so it might be the NT for me too!!
  20. http://www.australiasnorthernterritory.com.au/Working/bsm/nt-nominated-general/Pages/skilled-nominated.aspx it says lower down the page?
  21. I'm in contact with a migration agent at the moment, I don't think I'm putting my eoi in just yet, we need to work out how much money we need etc and because my bf and I have been traveling for such a long time it might be hard to prove de facto as we don't have consistent evidence of rent and bills etc but I'll see what the agent says! did your agent say anything about funds for the NT? I had a look at the requirements in case we didn't have enough for qld and it said for one applicant plus spouse we needed $50,000? I really hope not!!
  22. fingers pointing down?! That's so weird, that's impossible to see what you're doing with your fingers pointing down! i also got asked what two things we as hairdressers do that harm the environment, and name some ways of how we can contribute to the environment. yes also the chemical straightening one, I still cannot find the answer online. what tools and equipment you use. how you maintain your tools and equipment. what way I put grips in for hair up. how I work with a face shape to create a suited hair style. How I would do a scalp plait on someone that has a fringe, and how I would secure it. i agree with Laura, the more videos the better. Oh I was also asked how I would get rid of lines from perm rods, how I put a perm rod in, what I do to stop the band making a mark on the hair and how to neutralise, how I apply the perm solution, what ppe is available for me and clients.
  23. Ahh that's good news then! At least you will know what questions will come up and it wont last the full time, that's good! Ooh yes I forgot about the videos, very important! I felt so stupid talking to a camera! But worth it!
