  1. I think it depends on your occupation, I'm a hairdresser and mine took 2 weeks, I also know another hairdresser who had theirs approved in 2 weeks. However the guideline is 10-12 weeks some may take longer.
  2. Hi Laura, My advice would be give yourself plenty of time to get there - I got very lost from my satnav but luckily got there just in time! It's just a relaxed conversation, my assessor was lovely, and it was more like a chat, I got asked various questions but skipped through some of them too because of what I had provided in my skills assessment. But the questions were just mainly general hairdressing, so you'll be fine! I'm still thinking queensland, but it does depend on the funds. I read on their website that for my partner and I we will need $35000, but $5000 of that needs to be cash. However it then says that evidence only needs to show evidence of cash, I don't know, its confusing! So we are saving like mad at the moment! Let me know how you get on on Friday, and good luck!
  3. Hi Laura, No I have mine on Thursday in Manchester, i'm getting nervous now! Make sure you give yourself enough time to get there! It's not quite in the city centre, and I don't know how easy it is to get there by public transport. Have you thought anymore about where you're going to head to?
  4. Yeah I think I would prefer a practical too! Have you got a date for yours yet? Are you the main applicant? You might want to double check but I'm pretty sure a 489 in SA isn't available for hairdressers, and with it being a regional visa you may not be able to live and work in Adelaide, just a thought but it's worth checking out! were hoping to go to qld on a 489, although I do have the option of tasmania on a 190. Weighing up my options at the moment!
  5. Hi Laura, My assessment was the same. They received it on 22nd Feb, asked for a document to be certified on the 24th, which was sent the next day and was told it was positive the day after they received it! It took about 2 weeks in total! I have my technical in a few weeks time, I have heard as long as you have good hairdressing knowledge you should be fine, but I am still flicking through my old folders! Where are you hoping to go in oz? Vicki
  6. I know I cant believe how quick it was! Fingers crossed i'll be ok then, I trained and worked for Francesco Group for 8 years so have lots of salon experience, but I'm still flicking through my old folders! Yeah it's on April 9th in Manchester, keep your fingers crossed for me! Have you got any further with your application yet? Vicki x
  7. I sent mine (anzsco code 391111 - hairdresser) and they received it on 22nd February. They asked for a document to be certified on the 24th which was sent the next day, and they approved it the day after it was received on the 6th March. Seems mine was really quick for some reason, I don't know if my occupation is the reason for that though.
  8. Hi, I recently submitted my skills assessment to vetassess and answered no to some of the questions on the trade set report and the first part is successful. I am waiting to complete the second part so whether they ask me things about it during that I don't know. For my job (hairdresser) the things I answered no to, were things that weren't part of my every day job, such as working on catwalks, and how to strop and hone blades, to which I have no idea and are generally specialised areas. I wouldn't worry too much, just be honest in case they catch you out!
  9. Just received the email.....it's successful!!!! Can't believe it, it only took about 2 weeks, shocked! Now for the technical! They asked for my reference letter to be certified last week, they received it yesterday and got the email now. Any tips for the technical? Vicki x
  10. Yeah they wrote to me the day before yesterday asking for my reference to be certified but haven't heard anything else yet. Least theyre looking at it already! No I haven't done my IELTS yet, not sure if I will need to do it points wise but will look into that when/if I have a positive assessment! Yeah that's why we want to use an agent, theres none that I know of where we live, were in Shrewsbury. But will probably use Go Matilda, they seem to be well recommended. Yeah I'm not too keen on being anywhere else really, we lived in Victoria for 6 months which we loved, but we were on the Great Ocean Road. Wouldn't mind going back there, and South Australia was beautiful. I'd be happier if another state came up on the 190, but I guess its just a wait and see! Hopefully it wont come off fully by the time we are ready to put in our EOI! We have only just started the process, it took us about a month to sort out everything to send to Vetassess, so we are in for a long wait! How long were you hoping it would take you? We are hoping that we can go early next year, but whether we can or not I don't know! When you did your technical interview where did you go? Vicki x
  11. That's reassuring then. I have put in my CV, references and proof of employment and then I put in photos of my work, like hair ups and cuts etc, photos of me working completing colours, cuts, mens hair & beards etc and a before and after photo of chemical straightening and explained how I did it all. I only added one perm in too, they ask for two, but no-one I know has perms anymore! I put in one video of me working, doing a colour and cut and blow dry. Hoping that's enough! Yeah, I would like the permanent residency straight away but love QLD so it may be worth it! We left as my partners WHV expired and we went over to NZ to try there, came home for a wedding in November and have postponed going back as we are applying for this instead. It's where we want to be in the long run! Yeah I'm hoping it doesn't go off the list before I get my EOI in ill be devastated! Although NSW, VIC or SA would be fine too. Are you using an agent? Think we will be using one when we apply for the visa. Also have you done the IELTS? Vicki x
  12. Thanks for your replies! I have been looking at the other options, but the IELTS test centre is closest to where I live, so easiest option for me, but thank you anyway! I do have a UK passport, and not entirely sure if I will proceed with the test as I don't necessarily need the extra points, but looking into it at the moment, willing to do it if it helps broaden my options! Thanks so much for your help
  13. I see, thank you, I didn't know, although it seems they are applying offshore. I'm hoping it happens slightly quicker than that, what a long time to wait!
  14. http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/227520-migration-agent-advice-needed-subclass-309-a.html Sorry if it's not correct, was just reading this thread and states 15-18 month wait time. Whether or not its the same circumstances I don't know.
  15. I saw the one where his wife changed her mind, couldn't believe it, I reckon he was done like a kipper too!
  16. I recently read a thread on here about processing times for partner visa's and the wait at the moment seems to be 15-18 months. Does your agent have any idea of the processing time?
  17. Hi Kayleigh, thanks so much for replying! Congratulations on passing, that's great news! When and where are you heading? I've got a few options at the moment, I know I can go to Tas or NT on the 190, and have currently got a job offer in tassie, but I am also looking into the 489 in Qld, as I have lived there before and would love to settle there permanently. Although it means working towards PR. Yep, it should arrive with them today, I've been constantly tracking it since it was sent last Monday! I have no idea if I will pass though, I don't have a certificate to say that I am trained in chemical straightening, although I have learnt it and included pictures. Hoping that will be enough! What did you put in yours, if you don't mind me asking? Vicki x
  18. Hi Mazza227, No not currently using an agent, but will be when we start the visa process, wanted to get my skills assessed first!
  19. Hi everyone, Could someone tell me which IELTS test I need to take, either the academic or technical? I'm from the UK, applying for trade migration. Thanks
  20. Hi Kayp09, I am a fellow hairdresser and just wondering how you got on with your technical interview? I have just submitted my skills assessment, how long did yours take to come through? Thanks, Vicki
  21. Hi all, I'm new to poms in Oz and have been searching the forums to find a recent hairdresser thread. I have just sent off my skills assessment to Vetassess after a lot of work and stress getting it all together, feeling relieved now that it has gone but now worrying in case I have missed anything or haven't provided something very important! Any other hairdressers or tradies out there that are currently going through this? And does anyone know of current vetassess wait times and what is involved for a positive assessment and technical interview? Thanks in advance Vicki.
