  1. I am moving to Australia in 2017 and I want to work in Education in the IT/Database side of things. Does anyone know which School Information Systems are in use in Australia? I believe in state schools each state has it's own system. I have found out that Queensland uses OneSchool. Does anyone know what is used in other states? Does anyone know of any other systems that are used by the private schools? Any info would be appreciated as I want to work in this field. Thanks
  2. Hello February gang! WE GOT OUR VISA GRANTED!!! Thanks for everyone's help, we couldn't have done it without this website and all the fantastically helpful people here.
  3. In terms of replies, they have been getting back to us after 8 days. We've been emailing them a lot about various things.
  4. Thanks Maggie, I've already emailed them the confirmations but uploading them to the immiaccount is a good idea, I will do that as well. We are in Egypt at the moment, and there is no such thing as a booking confirmation or receipt. Everything is done over the phone or in person at an office here. They will have to take our word for it that we have made the bookings! I will try to call them first thing to explain our situation. I'm a bit more calm now after getting all our other checks processed.
  5. I urgently need to call the DIAC GSM main office first thing Monday morning to clear up some issues regarding adding my newborn son to our 189 application. Due to timezone differences, I will be calling in the middle of the night for me. Does anyone know which state and/or which timezone it is in, so I know exactly when to call? I want to avoid being awake all night as I have to work. Thanks in advance
  6. Hey January buddies, I need advice I'm tearing my hair out I applied mid January, but then my son was born end of February. I uploaded a 1022 form telling them, but they requested medicals and police from me and my wife at the start of April. I emailed them telling them I uploaded the 1022 form and had a child, and they replied back saying that we should wait to do the medicals for my son till after he gets his passport. Anyway, I relaxed and thought that we could do our medicals at the same time, but I thought I'd email DIBP to check. It took them ages to respond but they just did, saying that we DO need to do our police and medical checks done within the 28 day limit..... AND THAT IS IN 6 DAYS! We're never going to get them all done in that time. They've said they want receipts and proof that we've booked them, but if they are not happy with the information provided they will proceed with the application without them.... which I guess means rejection????? I'm panicking like a madman. I really want to call them to talk to them about this, but they're shut now and won't open till Monday morning!! AAAAARG! Advice please?!?!
  7. Hey DJ Fuddy, did you just scan and upload your birth certificate as well (not certified?), because the upload page reads like that one should be certified? And this would make sense as this is the only document that any assessing board has not seen yet. Thanks
  8. Hi Louise I just applied for a 189 visa myself. It's really not that tricky, and there are loads of posts on here to help you out. You need to get his skills assessed. For me as a teacher that was through AITSL but it sounds like you need to go through the TRA (whatever that is!). It took me a few months and about 500 quid to do. Do this first as it can take time. Then you need to do an IELTS or equivalent english test. I needed "superior" english (at least all 8's and above) to get the points I needed, and ended up doing it three times. It was a massive pain! After I had those two things completed I had 65 points and could apply for the EOI (expression of interest). I received an invitation to reply a few weeks later (dates are in my sig). After that you have to apply and pay for the visa. This took us a couple of hours! You then get through to a page that lets you upload documents. Each application is different so you need to work out what documents you need to upload. You will be assigned a case officer who will then tell you if there are any more documents you need, or just give you a grant if you have already uploaded everything. You don't actually need to do the police and medical checks until you get a case officer, but you can do them before to speed things up. Your last entry date into Australia to activate your visa will be 1 year from the earliest check, so bear that in mind. How quickly you upload everything depends on how much of a rush you are to get to Australia. For us, as I'm mid contract in a job and my wife is about to have a baby, we're not in a rush. Hope that helps!
  9. We received our invitation! We just applied! It's actually happening! Exciting and scary to drop nearly 3k GBP in one go for a visa.... Now we gotta start uploading documents..... I'm correct in thinking these one's don't have to be certified, is that correct?
  10. OK I'm an idiot.... I was pressing "go to my account" instead of "next" That'll teach me to use 40" screen! It was on the other side! D'oh!
  11. Hello We just received our invitation to apply for a Skilled - Independent (Subclass 189) (Permanent) visa from the EOI. I just followed instructions and logged into the https://online.immi.gov.au site to apply. However, the account was blank. I pressed on "New Application" and got a list of visas, however, Skilled - Independent (Subclass 189) (Permanent) is not there: I thought that General Skilled Migration Visa (Applicant) (476,485,887) might be correct so I tried that, but then when I get through to the next page, I cannot tick the box for the Skilled Independent visa: I have been on this forum lots and have never read about this problem before. Please can anyone tell me what to do! Thanks
  12. Yeah I have read that you have 60 days from when the EOI is offered to actually submit your application. I'm not sure what happens after the 60 days and if you can do another EOI. We are still waiting on our EOI... it's been over two weeks now since we submitted... starting to think they don't want us....
  13. Still waiting for a response to the EOI..... Whilst we wait I have a question... What documents are they going to ask me to upload, assuming I am selected? Also, do those documents have to be certified or can they just be scans? We're seeing our midwife tomorrow so we could get her to certify them if necessary. Thanks!
  14. Well I just read through all 49 pages of this thread and wow is there a lot of information here. As I was going I copied and pasted out parts which I thought were helpful from other people's posts. This may be handy for other people so I'm sharing it here. Please note that none of this is from my own knowledge and experience and if anyone has any suggestions or corrections then I would be glad to know. I won't actually be starting my job hunt for a couple of years (at least) so this will hopefully help others in the mean time. Now is the time to go to the website and familiarise yourself with the standards. http://www.aitsl.edu.au/australian-p...s-for-teachers CV TIPS Keep your cv short. 2 pages or so. Add a covering letter. Answer key selection criteria with examples of how you have met each criteria in your teaching. You need detail. 7 KSC may take 3 pages or so. Selection criteria applies in every state and each is different. For my present position I sent in five pages of selection criteria, plus a four page CV and a one page covering letter. Pretty standard for education. You also need to modify and change as time goes on, you can't just keep sending the same application in of course. In WA government positions demand that the selection criteria is addressed against the National Professional Standards for Teachers. So my advice there is to go on the website and familiarise yourself with the standards. All the jobs for the new school year are sorted by end of November July start. Aug-Nov is the main time, I would say Oct was the busiest time July and August is the main time. Doing this, I've received an interview for every job I've gone for in maths and science. Spent some time on the ACARA website. Worth a read. http://www.open.edu.au/careers/education-training/teachers-secondary-school STATE SPECIFIC INFORMATION Victoria state school system: http://www.education.vic.gov.au/hrweb/careers/pages/advacssch.aspx Queensland registration: http://www.qct.edu.au/registration/ Required: IELTS certificate - not 100% I needed it but I sent it. Degree Cert Degree Transcript PGCE Cert PGCE Transcript Passport References from schools I have worked in over the last 5 years Statement of service letters - basically guaranteeing I was employed. Registration is always provisional until you have completed a minimum of 200 days in a Queensland school. You then have do collate an evidence folder of how your teaching meets the professional standards. Then the school signs off on your full registration. I guess it is similar to a NQT year if you had to do one of those. I didn't do an NQT year so it was new to me. Easy to do, just a paperwork faff. This might be hard to do if you are a casual relief teacher but there is some advice on the QCT website on how to accumulate your evidence. Regards to teaching in QLD, it is really different here to most other places in regard to employment. You can't just apply for job vacancies as they are not advertised (only private schools) because it is all government based. The government have to interview you, give you a rating then they will offer you a permanent position somewhere where teachers are urgency needed - Regional or Far north Queensland. There is however a lot of Relief work available here. I have currently got 3 job share contracts and relieve the one day in-between. As far as permanency goes in state schools, it is a tricky now, but contract and relief if pretty good here- and pays well. :-) NSW: http://www.dec.nsw.gov.au/about-us/careers-centre/school-careers/teaching/our-programs-and-initiatives/overseas-trained-teachers/approval-process POMS IN OZ VISA TRACKER LINK: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0AkrdCphtU8u-dGJQSWROUlZ0bThIaUF2VW9zdUZmMlE&type=view&gid=277&f=true&sortcolid=-1&sortasc=true&rowsperpage=1000
  15. benj1980 - thanks for the info. Did you get this information from the immi website or is it just something you know from people posting on here? pinkestlady - good luck with the documentation! We have our own issue about police and medical checks, which is that my wife is heavily pregnant and due to give birth mid February. We will have to fill out form 1022 to notify them and also wait until the baby is born to get our medical checks done, and we will have to get it's passport. There are a few things I am unsure of though... do I have to tell them when we actually apply and pay for the visa that she is pregnant? And once the baby is born where do we send the 1022 form, do we just upload it like the other documents? Also, will we have to wait until the baby gets his passport before the visa can be processed and granted? If anyone has the answers to these questions I would be very grateful, though from reading other forum posts it seems this is a somewhat common occurrence and the C/O's are accommodating about this.
  16. We just submitted our EOI with me as the primary applicant as a Secondary School Teacher with 65 points. Four years in the making and the time is finally here. I've been lurking on this website for so long and now I actually get to post in one of these threads, very exciting! Any ideas how long I might have to wait to actually apply? Wish us luck!
  17. Hello I am in the process of getting everything together to apply for a 189 visa as a teacher. However I have just been reading the immi website and it says: [h=4]Family members English language ability[/h] For each of your dependent applicants who are aged 18 years or older at the time of application must provide evidence of Functional English. If the applicant does not have evidence of having Functional English, you will need to provide a statement indicating your intention to pay the second instalment of the visa application charge. (http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/checklists/189.aspx) My wife is Swedish, holds a Swedish passport and speaks fluent English. However, she does not meet any of the requirements on the "functional english page" - http://www.immi.gov.au/faqs/Pages/how-can-i-prove-i-have-functional-english.aspx My question is this: Will she be required to complete an English test (e.g. IELTS) for us to apply and do we have to get this done before we submit the expression of interest? Thanks in advance
  18. I'm glad to see i'm not the only one in this boat! I have picked up some good tips and will email that person for advice, thanks
  19. I just got my results back from my IELTS, and whilst most of my results are good (Listening 8.5, Reading 8.0, Speaking 9.0) I only got 7.5 for the writing. :arghh: I want to apply for a 189 visa as a Secondary Teacher but it says I need at least 8.0 on all of them to get the 20 points. I don't have enough points without it. I'm really down about it, I thought it was going to be easy to get the required results. Has anyone else had this happen? I have already booked another test but I don't even know where I went wrong. I thought I wrote really well using complicated vocabulary and long sentences, with no errors that I know of. Does anyone know what the writing test is actually looking for?? They don't release mark schemes for it. I am thinking about getting my writing re-marked as well, as kinda a backup, but it costs 60GBP and takes 6-8 weeks. Has anyone else done this? I'm trying not to let this get me down but it's really bugging me.
  20. chin up Coolbreeze! It'll all pan out, for you it's just a waiting game now
