Hi all, I recently sat my IELTS, aiming for Superior English for maximum points which is 8 or above giving me +20 on the skilled visa application. I got my results today which were Listening - 9, Reading - 8.5, Speaking - 8.5 but Writing - 7.5. I'm a bit bummed as I'm an English native speaker with a decent A-Level in English . I practiced hard, took nothing for granted, was familiar with the test process etc. and felt like I did well on test day so I've asked for a re-mark of the Writing section (paying £120 for the pleasure which gets refunded if they change it). I wondered if anyone had any experience of getting the writing section re-marked and if so, were you successful? I will resit if needed of course. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks guys!!

Hi Hope everyone is doing well and keeping safe! I was wondering if anyone knows if the TOEFL Home Special Edition is accepted? Due to the lockdown in the UK, test centres are shut but TOEFL are offering a fully proctored home edition but not sure if this would be accepted by Aus Gov? Anyone with any insight - please share!

Hi Everyone, Newbie here. My partner and I are in the process of applying for the new 491 Visa under my partners skilled occuptation of Pastry Chef/Cook. We were in contact with a company based in Edingburgh who gave us a successful assessment and we were confident that he would get the ball rolling for us, after our conversation. We provided him all the relevant information and was told he was resarching/confirming my partners french qualification. Since then, he has stopped replying to messages and has gone cold on us. I was wondering if any of you could recommend reuputable mirgration agent in the UK, who are used to dealing with applications with French qualifications and keep us through the loop throughout. My partners qualification was obtained in Rennes, France. Qualification - CAP (Certificate D' Appitude Patissier) - Patissier, Glacier, Chocolatier, Confiseur Thanks

Hi there, I am applying for my ENS 186 visa. I have completed my PhD in Australia in 5 years. However, I had interruptions in two research quarters. I had to resubmit my thesis for examination. Nonetheless, I finished in more than 5 years. I know if you have studied for more than 5 years in a secondary or higher education institution, you don't have to provide an Englisch proficiency test ( https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/employer-nomination-scheme-186/temporary-residence-transition-stream#Eligibility ). Does this rule apply to me as well? Thanks for your help!

Hoping someone is able to help me out and offer advice! Little bit of a different topic. So I've been over to Australia a couple of times and fell in love with it. And in typical British fashion, would love to up sticks and move there. I've got quite a lot of close family friends and school friends who live out there so luckily I wouldn't be completely alone over there. I'm currently studying a Masters in Professional Acting in London and for the last year, I have been contemplating moving after I have graduated. It's now or never right? But my main concern is my career choice. I'm well aware that the acting industry is tough and very competitive no matter where you are - however I was wondering if anybody on here knows a thing or two about the Acting Industry over in Australia - specifically Sydney, or even Melbourne? If so, I have a couple of questions. What is the industry like? Is it a good place to be for a career in Acting? How tough is getting an agent? And are the agencies good out there in terms of getting you auditions? Do you get many opportunities in terms of Film & TV? Is it possible to get representation if only on a Working Holiday Visa? Do they offer opportunities to audition for US TV shows & Films? Any advice would be amazing!! Would massively appreciate it as it is hard to find advice on this through google. Thank you, Zoe

Hi guys! I am a Nursing student and I am planning to apply for skilled visa as soon as I finish my studies. In order to secure visa process I would like to get superior English result. Can you please tell me if anyone succeeded to gain all "A" in OET? Is it possible? I prefer this one as it is specific to nursing, but I have some doubts if it is possible to get all As. Or maybe PET is a better choice as it is needed to get more than 79 in all parts which sounds a bit more realistic. Can you please share your experience about these two tests? Thanks!

186 PR English requirement after application or before
Ben posted a topic in Working and Skilled Visas
Hi, Really struggling to find information on this, basically we would like to launch our application, however we are not sure if we can lodge our application before my partner has completed her ILTS test to prove her English proficiency . Or can we add this evidence post lodging of our application. Any help would really appreciated. Thanks Ben -
Hello all, We have granted our PR's and we will move to Brisbane soon. We paid VIC2 (4890 AUD) payment for AMEP for my wife. Her English is equal to approx IELTS 4,5 level. We did not hesitate to pay AMEP because we are told that system also provides free childcare service for our kids during the AMEP class hours, which is vital for us considering we have a 3 year old daughter. We are hoping that by participating all 510 hours of English course and by hard working, she would improve her English to a better level, to IELTS 6,5-7 maybe? In the meantime, our daughter will be looked after in childcare service (she will learn English as well!). So that my wife and my daughter will spend approx 1 year like this and I hope they will both improve their English. Is that a realistic plan? How efficient are those AMEP courses in Brisbane? Is there anything we are missing, or should we consider any points for this plan? Thank you in advance for all replies.

Will native English speakers be required to complete the English test? Since moving over I have been working as a teacher, after completing the IELTS tests for migration purposes and my wife has completed a Level 3 administration course at TAFE. Is it simply a money spinner for native speakers?

189 Visa - Family members English language ability
teachingcouple posted a topic in Working and Skilled Visas
Hello I am in the process of getting everything together to apply for a 189 visa as a teacher. However I have just been reading the immi website and it says: [h=4]Family members English language ability[/h] For each of your dependent applicants who are aged 18 years or older at the time of application must provide evidence of Functional English. If the applicant does not have evidence of having Functional English, you will need to provide a statement indicating your intention to pay the second instalment of the visa application charge. (http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/checklists/189.aspx) My wife is Swedish, holds a Swedish passport and speaks fluent English. However, she does not meet any of the requirements on the "functional english page" - http://www.immi.gov.au/faqs/Pages/how-can-i-prove-i-have-functional-english.aspx My question is this: Will she be required to complete an English test (e.g. IELTS) for us to apply and do we have to get this done before we submit the expression of interest? Thanks in advance -
Hi all, I hope some of you will be able to help me today. I'm currently in WA on a Working Holiday Visa and registered with the Teaching board of WA. I'm looking at applying for PR visas 189 and 190 in a year or so. I have an MA Degree in French from a French University and later completed my PGCE Secondary in an English University. I've read that the AITSL requires a) a 4 years study including Teacher Training from an English Speaking country or b) an IELTS Test as a proof of English competency. I'm not sure if my LOTE Degree + PGCE qualify me for option a). Any idea? Thank you very much. Ana.

Hi Guys, I am applying for subclass 190 and i am the primary applicant. My wife (partner) will be included in the application also. Now i am reading the Proof of functional English on the IMMI website and they mentioned "an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) average score of at least 4.5 for the four test components (speaking, reading, listening and writing)". It's for my wife and i've been told by some that you need each band 4.5 for my partner and on the other side there are some that tell me you only need the average band of 4.5 and it's all good. Now which one is the correct one that IMMI will accept for my spouce? All band of 4.5 for each band or just the average 4.5 will do? If you have been in this situation, please share with us. Thanks.

Is this an actual requirement to take the IELTS tests as I was under the impression that minimum points were granted (10) if the applicants first language is English and they have a passport from the UK? I have noticed a few people on here talking about uploading their IELTS results from the UK and wondered if this was because it was an actual requirement or they just needed it for the extra points? I researched all of this a few months back and I was sure we would be awarded the 10 points as we come from the UK but I know it changes every July? :skeptical:

I moved over from England a year ago (I'm half English/half Irish) to be with my Australian boyfriend and am still struggling to meet friends. It's so much harder when you're older and not going out every night! Does anyone fancy a Saturday lunch get together?

Hi. We will be moving to australia as soon as we can,we will be bringing with us our 13 year old son who will prob be 14 by the time we get there. I have heard many stories of how cool it is in oz and the fabulous life style we can look forward to and how our son will love it. But what is it like for you as kids in oz? What are the schools really like for you as english kids? Is there bullying cos you are english if so how is it dealt with? Is life in the suburbs boring or is there plenty to do? Are there places to hang out etc and do you hang out with mainly english kids? What about the music you were into in england can you buy it/listen to it? Are there "hoodie type"gangs that give you a hard time? Is the school work as hard or harder(are you challenged at school).? Are the australian kids as cool or cooler than english kids? I know you prob all miss your mates ,do you spend all you time on the computer catching up with them?. I dont know, there are a million things i could ask you but if you could just answer a few of these questions it would really help. Many Thanks

121/856 dependent Parents Inlaw functional English question ?
Alan H posted a topic in Repealed and Closed Visas
I'm Canadian, my wife is Russian and my parents in-law are also Russian. They live with us in Canada, they have their Canadian pr and are on their way to Canadian citizenship The parents-inlaw are dependent on me for their survival. I was trying to figure out how the language requirements work. It says "How well does the dependent communicate in English?" Better than functional Functional Limited Not at all Is there some clarification outline some where on how you determine this ? Are there language tests needed for depend ants on 121/856 visas ? Does this question kick off some additional documents if you don't mark better than functional ? I haven't been able to find anything so far so your help is greatly appreciated!!!! Does them being married have any impact on us sponsoring them ? Is it better for them to be Canadian Citizens or Permanent residents and just pay the language training ? Alan -
Requirement of functional english for partner of main applicant for ENS 121 visa
mansawant posted a topic in Visa Chat
Hi all, my wife is a main applicant for ENS 121 visa and she is AHPRA registered so no need of IELTS for her. However being a partner I have to provide evidence for English language. I am originally from India and become British citizen in Sep 2010. But not sure whether this will be enough to prove and also passed IELTS Academic module with overall 6.5 band but the only issue is I appeared for the test in Sep 2009 more than 2 years ago. Is it possible to provide evidence that I am in UK since last 7 years and working in IT dept for a NHS trust in London for last 3 years so this way I can confrim that after passing IELTS in 2009 I am working in English speaking country or I have to sit for IELTS General module again to score 4.5 which is not tough but..... Appreciate any advice or info who has gone through this situation. Mansawant -
Hi I wonder if anyone can help me.....I am getting togther all my documents for AHPRA and need a letter from my secondary school to say I was taught in English to avoid doing the IELTS. The problem is my school closed a couple of years after I left and I have contacted my education authority where i attended school and they have just got back to me to say they have NO archives of any pupil that attended my school. :mad:I am so frustrated. So I want to know if I can..... 1 .Get my school exam 'O' level certificates notarised 2 .Write a statement to say I attended the school and get that witnessed by a notary too Would this be adequate? Has anyone else had any experience of this at all? I would be interested to hear. many thanks
