  1. Between Australian Citizenship Bill 2005 to Australian Citizenship Act 2007, immigration office still processed citizenship application under the regulation of Australia Citizenship Act 1948. I do not know if this is against any law if DIBP starts to pend all the application lodged on or after 20/04/2017.
  2. so those applicants who fulfill 4 years PR requirement will also need to wait till this new rules passed parliament ?
  3. Therefore the Senate doesn't matter (because it only matters when Labor opposes the government) and there is no doubt this will become law. --> why are you so sure ?
  4. Hi Guys, You may refer to https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JYRvi6XH4LKUvdCW5vmCG44U7VG469oZNQeKgceVDO4/edit?ts=589cfc5c#gid=0 looks like DIBP has started to process application lodged on April 19. We will see how they handle those applications submitted on of after April 20.
  5. Hi Eddie When you lodged your online application through immi website on April 25, was there any message as below ? Residence eligibility Warning: The applicant may not currently meet the residence criteria to apply for conferral of Australian citizenship. Use the Residence calculator to check when the applicant will have been in Australia long enough to be eligible for Australian citizenship or contact the Citizenship Information Line on 131 880.
  6. just found federal budget 2017-18 from news - http://www.theaustralian.com.au/budget-2017/budget-2017-new-tax-on-overseas-labour-to-fund-apprentices/news-story/9a0fa0a940b0c4d27974b0ae1a63e02b there's "Permanent skilled-visa workers would cost small firms a one-off $3000 levy and large companies $5000." .. does it mean employer will need to pay 5000 aud for hiring people with PR visa ????
  7. I am currently living in Baulkham Hill NSW and just found local MP is assistant minister of dibp - http://www.openaustralia.org.au/mp/alex_hawke/mitchell. how can we contact our local MP ? make an appointment or just email them ?
  8. From Australian Citizenship Bill 2005 to Australian Citizenship Act 2007, it takes almost 1.5 years to finalize. I do not think DIBP is able to put all the applications made on or after 20/04/2017 on hold till mid of 2019.
  9. from change to bill and then from bill to law, refer to last change as Australian Citizenship Bill 2005, it takes over than 1.5 years, i wander if it's against any law if immigration put all the applications received on or after 20/4/2017 on hold for "1.5 YEARS".
  10. Thx mate, let's see how it goes ... for those applicants who lodged application on or after 20/04/2017 are very concerned about this proposed change.
  11. i wander if dibp already modified the online application system with new checkup for 4 yr PR .. btw, did you obtain PR status on 10/5/2016 or 11/5/2016 ? thx.
  12. @keep in in oz, may i ask if you obtained pr visa on 10/05/2016 or 11/05/2016 ? Thanks.
  13. @keep me in oz, When you filled in your online application form, did it pop up following warning message at page 5 ? Residence eligibility Warning: The applicant may not currently meet the residence criteria to apply for conferral of Australian citizenship.
  14. Hi Zet, My IMMI only shows following. as the same as yours ? he changes will not apply to applications made before 20 April 2017 (that is, the current rules will continue to apply to applications made before 20 April 2017). Applicants will receive communication on the implementation of these measures and any additional information and documentation that may be required to support their application. If one or both of the scenarios above apply to the applicant then they will need to lodge a paper application. Before commencing the online Citizenship application check the application eligibility criteria. Applicants cannot apply online if one or both of the following scenarios apply to them: the applicant entered Australia before July 1990 and has not travelled outside of Australia since that date or the applicant is seeking an exemption or concession to the application fee. If one or both of the scenarios above apply to the applicant then they will need to lodge a paper application.
  15. CO will access your application based on [h=3]Citizenship Policy Document June 2016[/h] https://www.border.gov.au/Citizenship/Documents/acis-june-2016.pdf and page 96, Evidence that the person has migrated to Australia and established a home in Australia prior to the period overseas; Australian citizen children; Long term relationship with Australian citizen spouse or de facto spouse; Extended family in Australia; Regular return visits to Australia; Regular periods of residence in Australia; Intention to reside in Australia; Whether applicant on leave from employment in Australia while accompanying spouse or partner overseas; Ownership of property in Australia; Evidence of payment of Australian income taxes over the 4 year period before the application; and Evidence of active participation in Australian community based activities or organisations In assessing whether a person has a close and continuing association with Australia for the purpose of s22(9)(d) more weight should be given to the listed factors if the person has been lawfully and physically present in Australia for at least 365 days in the four years immediately before making an application for Australian citizenship As you already lived in Australia for over than 18 months, you will be given more weight to the considering factors as above to access if you have continue and close association with Australia. So you may prepare supporting documents based on those factors as above, good luck.
  16. Dear all, When local council or DIBP send us invitation letter to citizenship ceremony, is there due date to advise authority to attend the ceremony ? What if we do not RSVP the authority by due date ? Will our appointment of citizenship ceremony be cancelled ? Thanks. The thing is I just got approval letter, and will like to travel overseas, my friend can help to monitor the mail box , but should I request my friend opening the envelope to check RSVP due date of my ceremony ? Thanks. Steven
  17. Hi Thanks for your sharing. It seems embassy does not follow the service standard as - https://www.immi.gov.au/about/charters/client-services-charter/visas/5.0.htm .. it says subclass 101 will take 3 months to process if applicants are from low risk countries.
  18. Thanks for your experience sharing, so embassy may provide priority processing for "infant" child ? based on the website, it may take almost 1 year to finalize subclass 101 visa.
  19. if parents need to return to Australia soon and can not wait for long process of subclass 101, the only solution is to bring the infant to Australia with visitor visa, and then lodge 802 visa once arrival, but during the 802 visa being processed, is the infant eligible for Medicare ?
  20. Thanks Daine, there's Australian embassy in my home country, that's why I was thinking if I could complete all the necessary forms and supported document and then apply for Australian passport at Australian embassy in my home country . but, the aspect i was worried about is after attending citizenship ceremony, will there be any trouble when exiting sydney airport custome... seems there will be no problem when leaving australia on foreign passport ...thank you very much.
  21. just wonder if i will get trouble at sydney airport custom, and be challenged by embassy officer when i try to apply for australia passport at overseas embassy ...any experience share will be highly appreciated...
  22. my situation is as below. will attend citizenship ceremony within 2 weeks, but due to family issue, will need to travel overseas as early as i can. event no time for 48 hours urgent passport or ADV visa... is it possible to depart australia just after the citizenship ceremony, and then apply for australia passport at overseas embassy with citizenship certificate ? will there be any trouble at airport custom when leaving australia ? hope people with similar experience could advise, Thank you.
  23. Tks.. I and my wife still waiting for citizenship so that we will need to apply either offshore child visa subclass 101 or onshore child visa subclass 802 as my wife is going to deliver birth overseas....as we will need to get immunization for new born baby very frequently before six month old...that's why I would like to further confirm if I could get medicare when my child stayes with us by visitor visa and being waiting for offshore child visa subclass 101.....
  24. Hi tks for ur sharing...did u apply for 101 offshore or 802 onshore visa for ur kid? I am from eta country, but will be applying visitor visa and request six months stay...just wanna double confirm if in such situation when staying in Australia with visitor visa and waiting for subclass 101 offshore child visa, is the child still eligible for medicare ? ....
  25. Hi thanks for your reply, as centrelink hotline just said your child will be automatically grand PR as your are PR.. I really doubt their professionalism ... so would like to know if there's anyone had similar experience.. as new born baby will need to get immunization frequently ...immunization will cost a lit if there's no Medicare for new born baby.
