I'm the same - so worried about stuff like that - what about stains on cooking stuff like grease stains on the frying pan are they fussy about that? I've scrubbef and scrubbed!!

Hi, I'm moving to Coffs Harbour, NSW in August, no job yet but hopefully something will happen soon... just wondered what other nurses have done you regarding indemnity insurance as I was under the impression it was obligatory for nurses in oz or could you just have cover from your employer?? In the UK I'm a member of RCN which isn't mandatory but would provide cover. not really sure how it works over there? I would be grateful for some suggestions/clarity!! Sam :-)

I'm also interested in this, I'm shipping with Pickfords but their insurance seems expensive and the cover doesn't seem great - not including mould or mildew etc. Has anyone had any experience claiming with insure your move or any other company? Is it easy to claim and are they quick to process it?? Also, while on the topic of insurance has anyone bothered with one way travel insurance? If so which company did you use for this?? Sam

I can help with the English thing... I answered yes and simply listed my education - degree 3 years and college 2 and I just provided my certificates as they need these anyway. No need to bother with anything else there. Then I got my ielts sent to ahpra. Nothing else way requested and my application was processed very quickly

Hi Reeha, I have inboxed you about the IELTS but for others on here too - you only need to sit the academic IELTS if it is required for your skills assessment (I am a nurse and so needed above 7 on the academic ielts). When I took mine, I got enough points for my skills assessment however I needed more points for the visas (I was 0.5 of a mark out of getting above 8s which would have been enough grrrr) so I then took the general IELTS for the visas. If you don't need IELTS for your skills assessment but need extra points for your visas then go ahead and take the general. As a nurse you do need the academic though so hopefully you will get above 8s so you have more points for your visas too! Hope that makes sense? As for documents for your visa application - ours was a very straightforward application - no divorces, no children, only name change was mine when we got married. So we submitted: Passports - certified copies Birth Certificates - certified copies Marriage Certificate - certified copie Police Certificates - original My IELTS (they only need the code but I scanned in the certificate just in case) - original My Skills Assessment Letter of Determination - original my degree certificate - certified copy my academic transcript - certified copy my work reference stating years of work (although I wasn't claiming points for this but included it anyway) hope this helps

You're right! Its inevitable to miss people unless you have no friends or family that you care about! You can't say that those who will miss their friends and family in the UK will make unsuccessful migrants as that would be the large majority of migrants!

Thank you :-) I know, so fast! The lonest wait was anmac but overall it's been a speedy process. Done it all on my own (I say on my own - my husband is coming but has been useless with it all haha!) No agents used! To be honest the whole thing has been really easy. Thr hardest bit was getting all the documents for anmac and ahpra but once that was done it was fine! Visas were the easiest bit! I used sydney office - send with airsure/special delivery with royal mail so it gets there quicker and safer. They were very quick just triple check your application and make sure you dont miss anything out! It's mostly the same as anmac except for your cv though.

With the Ramsay Healthcare Hospitals (private) they do a graduate programme which I believe overseas nurses can join as well. They have hospitals all over Oz too!

Hi all, sorry I've taken such a long time to reply to you all, had a long stretch of shifts at work and haven't been able to get on PIO. I really appreciate all your messages and advice. Debs - I reckon you were right about my dad - he seems to be a bit better now and he's been taking gaviscon every so often which seems to be helping. I think he is over-anxious too which is understandable but now the gaviscon seems to be helping a bit, he has relaxed and his mind is at ease. Starlight 7 - Is it not normal to get doubts though? Even if I wasn't close to my friends and family, this is still home and it is hard to make changes sometimes, especially one as big as this. It's in human nature to get doubts and worries after all. Yes I'm worried about all of this at the moment however I still feel that I have been given an opportunity of a lifetime - none of my friends and very few members of my family even make the skilled occupation list so I am so lucky! After a long chat with my mum about all of these family illnesses and about my best friend's wedding, she has really encouraged us to carry on with the move - For the reasons I have already said - it's an opportunity of a lifetime. My mum is obviously sad that we're leaving but she's already started planning her holiday and knows how lucky we are to do this and gives us her full support. As for my best friend, I love her to bits but she just cannot understand why we want to go. I think I'm just going to have to be brave and put up with the negativity from her and the pressure she's putting on me to make it to her wedding. There's not a lot else I can do really apart from do our best to come back and if not I'll have to order a pretty damn good wedding present!!! So... after all that, we're now on an up again! Visas were granted today (woohoo!!) and after the wise words of mum and all you PIO folk, I feel much more supported and just have to find ways to cope with the downs (bottle of wine and a bar of chocolate seems to be the current favourite remedy!). Hi guys! Got the grant this morning!!!!! Sooo pleased and amazed how quick and easy it was!!! Took 8 weeks and 2 days from date of lodgement! Must mention, we had our medicals last Thursday and the doctor said results would be through Tuesday or Wednesday. So I checked yesterday evening on e medical client and they said completed. So I emailed my CO to politely say the medicals had been submitted etc etc and next thing you know we have a lovely grant email this morning!!! I would definitely recommend emailing your CO when any outstanding documents are submitted as you don't know how often they check your account and that might be all they're waiting for!!! I completely understand what you're saying, my husband and I often say - why can't we just be content with what we have and stay put. We have friends who were born in our small town and have no desire what so ever to leave. Life would be much easier if we felt that way. I think once you've had the idea the Australia bug sets in it's hard if not impossible to just ignore it. We'll never be content until we've tried it and if we don't go we'll always regret it! after all were lucky to have the opportunity. On the other hand if we go like your situation and miss people and events then I guess that will always be a regret too!

Thank you for your replies, We chose August for various reasons.... money, cost of flights, time to organise etc. But not for anything specific so yeah I guess we can always rebook our flights if it comes to it. Melza- thank you for your insight, I always knew that eventually things will happen in the UK while we're away, that's life after all, just wasn't quite expecting it just before we go. I agree that this worry probably is all last minute jitters especially as it's all so close now. I know I have to find ways to deal with this, you're right that there will be a lot we'll miss. I'm going to have a long chat with my friend and hope she can be understanding that it might not be possible to go to her wedding but we'll do our best. As for my family, hopefully they'll be fine or hopefully it's nothing too serious, time will tell. Thank you all :-) Feeling betting now... back up again on this rollercoaster ride!!

So having a few ups and downs... We decided to move to Oz last April. At the time everyone was well, not a lot was happening really and my husband and I have no kids yet and are only renting so thought let's do this while we can... So got started on the applications and submitted our EOI end of November and application at the beginning of December. Got a bit excited about it all and we've booked flights to go in August. After, we found out... My dad has skin cancer (should be nothing to worry about and moles will just be removed but still quite scary) My best friend (since I was 5!) is getting married in March 2015 - we will only have been in Australia for 7 months and she wants us to come back for it and she wants me to be a bridesmaid. We really want to as well but realistically I don't think we can afford to so soon and I can't guarantee we'll get the time off work - we haven't even got jobs yet it's stupid to think we'll get over two weeks off! It probably would have been different if we'd been there over a year. Out of all my friends and family she has taken the news of us leaving the worst and this was before she got engaged! So far I've told her we'll try to come back but do I tell her that we probably can't or just keep giving her false hope?! On top of that, there is a possibility my 87 year old grandad had prostate cancer... he's waiting more tests to confirm it but I know he'll give up if it is that. He's getting more and more frail and although we have a big family who will support my granny I'd feel awful leaving my mum, she'll be devastated. And more recently my dad, as well as his skin problems, now had been getting the feeling of a lump in his throat/oesophagus so he's been to the doctors and had blood tests and is waiting for a camera test to have a look. Cant help but think the worst... We should have our visas granted in the next few weeks everything is nearly done - we've done medicals got a case officer so not long to wait. And up until we actually submitted our application everyone was well and no one was getting married. Now suddenly when we've nearly reached our dream it all goes wrong. We still want to go so badly but I don't know what to do. I guess we have to wait for everyone's test results but it's horrible feeling so excited one minute then devasted the next! Hmmm! Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated :-) and if none can be offered, thank you for reading. Sam xx

Got our medicals on Thursday. Bit nervous as this is the last step before our grant! Anyone had them recently? How long does it take to get results? Also what actually happens on the day?

In 2006 we stayed at sydney world tower meriton serviced apartments - got a good deal but it's far too expensive now... we wanted something similar to stay on our arrival - modern, good views with a kitchen... found that meriton have several others - we just booked Meriton Serviced apartments on kent street which was something like £88 a night.

Yes I had to resit my IELTS as I was 0.5 off an 8 for the academic (very frustrating) but managed to get 8 and over on the general. I didnt claim points for experience as I have less than 3 years. Just had a look on skill select and it says: To claim points for skilled employment you must have, in the 10 years before you were invited to apply, at least 20 hours of paid work per week in your nominated skilled occupation and/or a closely related occupation. In skilled employment for at least three but less than five years (of the past 10 years) - 5 points So looks like you'll get 5 points but if in doubt may be worth emailing anmac or diac? What other points are you entitled to??

Not really sure if you can, however I applied with 60 points and was worried I wouldnt get an invitation but got one only days after submitting my eoi. Application sent and case officer has been allocated - just gotta do medicals so wont be long til our grant! Hope this helps :-)

Hope you had a nice holiday :-) Our medicals are booked for thursday too. Police certificates already submitted but it'd be interesting to see when we get a grant once the medicals are done!
