1. If your occupation is removed before you have lodged the actual visa application then it will be tough luck I'm afraid. The new skills list should be out any time, it was supposed to be 1st October. What is your occupation?
  2. We are not off until May ish, not sure where we are headed yet, staying in Clarkson with a friend to begin with but will do some exploring when we get there to find a nice area with decent schools etc. Also depending on where the work is. Have you both been to WA before? I think your husband should be fine getting a job, we are both chefs and on our working holiday a few years ago we just walked into restaurants and got jobs in every one we went in!
  3. hi NI Tracey T, is your husband the main applicant or you? my husband originally applied as a chef but failed TRA as his nvq level 2 wasnt comparable to AQF3, so we re-applied as 'cook' (even though he has been a chef for 15 years) and passed TRA with that. A few months later here we are!
  4. excellent news for you DonnaC, great feeling isn't it, ours came too today!
  5. Congrats, we had the same news this morning, perth here we come too:biggrin:

    Migrate to Oz

on western australia's state sponsorship list (http://www.migration.wa.gov.au) there are a couple of hotel/hospitality management occupations available for state sponsorship (190 or 489 visas). I think your wife would need a couple more years experience though but it is worth checking the list to see if any of these are a match for your wife's job and if so contact the skills assessor 'Vetassess' to find out if her qualifications are of a comparable standard and how much experience she needs. WA are changing their skills list very soon though so keep an eye on it in case those jobs are removed from the list. I don't know if any other states have jobs that match on their lists, its just we are applying for WA so know more about theirs.

    Migrate to Oz

which areas do you and your wife specialise? do either of you have work experience relating to your degrees since completing them?
  8. photocopy your documents and take the copies and originals to a solicitor, notary or Justice of the peace and ask them to countersign them. They will charge a fee, usually a justice of the peace(JP) is the cheapest and sometimes free, they work at local sheriff courts but ring first to find out when is best time to come in.
  9. there is a checklist on the front of the 'migration skills assessment' application form that you send with your evidence, it will say what you have to send and make sure you have read the guidelines as that gives more detail about what evidence you need. maybe send P60's too...
  10. hi kaiser, we had our medicals 2 weeks ago before case officer. we rang the clinic and gave our TRN number over the phone and they found us on the system and booked us in.

    Diploma v NVQ

I think it depends on the occupation, in our case nvq level2 is good enough to compare to the required AQF for 'cook' but not for 'chef' which needs at least nvq 3, so like I said it depends on what your occupation is.

    medicals

we just had ours last week in edinburgh, was much simpler than i was expecting. First I went into toilet to give urine sample, then into nurses room where she does height, weight, eye test(didnt even ask to read bottom 2 lines), blood pressure then blood for HIV test. only took 5 mins. Then into doc and he checked the medical history questions we filled out prior to coming were correct. Then jumped on bed and he listened to chest, heart, lungs and had a little prod around tummy and look in eyes and ears. didnt have to undress which was a relief! then through to get chest xray, all together probably another 10 minutes after nurses checks.
  13. You should'nt need to do the points advice, as long as you only claim work experience points that you have post qualification in your EOI and you have evidence to prove what you are claiming. What is your points breakdown? maybe can see if i get the same score you got
  14. I think the Autism may be a problem...hopefully someone else can give more info.
  15. As everyone over the age of 16 has to have police check, I take it as that being the age you are no longer considered a minor. I think you need a police certificate from Tanzania as well, as you were over 16 when you were there.
  16. My husbands writing was also the same as adonna.
  17. it takes around a week to get to there and the same to be sent back, with a few days in between for them to get it on the system etc. You should bave a letter by 3 weeks after you posted it.
  18. We failed first time, due to my hubbys qualification not being good enough to be equivalent of AQF 3. He is a chef but his NVQ 2 is only good enough for him to be classed as a cook over there so we just re-applied as cook and passed. On the online portal I think it was the job ready program we clicked on and could view our progress (we did not submit a job ready application though, it was a migration skills assessment) it may have changed though, maybe once you get the acknowledgement letter there is a ref. no. you can use to sign up. good luck
  19. yes they send you a letter to confirm that they received your application. Ours took 4 weeks exactly, log in to the TRA online portal and you can check on there for when you get an outcome. They send a letter with outcome on it as well but takes longer.
  20. Hi there, there is a user on this site, Kbounds who's husband has done just that, see if you can find her for more info
  21. not sure, our skills assessment was with TRA and we didnt have to have the IELTS for it (in fact husband did it after) but not sure if its different for other assessing authorities or people from non native engligh speaking countries, I can only comment on our experience:smile:
  22. you have to have a possitive skills assessment and IELTS in place before lodging your EOI. Sorry cant help with the spouse question. People from certain countries eg UK, Canada, America dont have to do IELTS but most do it for the additional points to reach the 60 pass mark.
  23.

no not heard yet thats 9 days now, its just frustrating how they are so difficult to communicate with. I can see us having to wait up til after 1am to ring again and even then we aren't guaranteed any answers! What is the deal with this 'best fit' policy anyway, i tried researching but couldnt find anything about it. I don't know what to ask about if i ring them, did they explain it properly to you? is it that they can now assess you under the trade that best fits your application whereas they could only assess under the occupation you asked for previously?

  24.

so is it correct that you originally applied to be assessed as a chef but they contacted you and basically gave you the option to change and be assessed as a cook instead? im hoping that as you did this they will review my oh's as a cook as well but not holding out much hope!

hi there, thought i would write here instead of continuing to hijack someone elses thread!

Really good news that you were successful, it must be such a relief! its all pretty straightforward from here apparently...we still have no reply to the email we sent to TRA a week ago:mask: we basically asked if they would do the review but re-assess as a cook or would we have to send a new application in to apply as cook.
