  1. We moved house around a year ago and updated our immi account accordingly. My husband got his citizenship approval letter to our new address but got invited to attend his citizenship ceremony in our old council area which is a 2.5 hour flight away. Has this happened to anyone before and is the only way to rectify this to ring immigration? TIA
  2. My husband received his citizenship approval yesterday (via Immi account)! Total application process was 13 months so they are starting to turnaround applications faster. Date Applied: 02/02/2018 (roughly) City/Council Area: Gold Coast Online/Paper: Paper Date received the acknowledgement email: 18/02/2018 Date of Citizenship Test: 02/05/2018 Date of Approval: 12/03/19 Date of Ceremony: TBA (now different council area)
  3. Yes, but while others have received approval notice we've received none yet. I think it all evens out eventually in terms of total processing time, it could be a long wait until our ceremony.
  4. I submitted in February and received test email in April.
  5. I think it's the luck of the draw tbh. My husband's application was received on the 6th of February and he had his test on Wednesday past. We'll probably have a really long wait for the approval letter and ceremony date now though.
  6. Does anyone have the link to the timeline Google doc they could post? TIA
  7. Our account only recognises our name and that our application has been received - it's also asking for supporting docs to be uploaded but I've already sent these via post. I did ring immigration the other day to query if these docs need to be uploaded (which isnt a problem in itself but getting someone to fill out a new form again stating they know you is a hassle), but was 122nd in the queue and gave up.
  8. We received ours by email and when we linked up our application number (given in the email) to our Immi account online there was a copy of the same letter in our Immi inbox.
  9. Hi, I have a quick question for those that submitted a paper application for your citizenship - did you scan and upload a copy of the supporting docs you sent with your application to your online Immi account? I've just imported my application to the Immi account online and find it strange that they ask you to upload copies of the same docs you've already sent hard copies of. Thanks
  10. Hi, Just after some advice with regards to declaring my UK rental income on my Australian tax return. Are there any deductions on profit received from your rental property that you can make on your Australian tax return that you can't on your UK one? I get my tax return completed in the UK (solely rental income) each year and then pass this info onto a local tax agent to lodge my tax return to the ATO but I'm not convinced that she knows the ins and outs of the UK and Australian systems and I worry that I'm paying too much tax to the ATO unnecessarily. TIA
  11. Hi, Thanks for your replies. Given that you cannot claim tax back on new carpet etc, what other expenses other than necessary repairs to the heating system and electrics etc can you spend any profit on that you can then claim back on your tax return? I'm not talking big amounts, maybe £750.
  12. Hi all, Last year I made a small profit on my UK rental and was subsequently taxed my the Australian tax man. The T&Cs of my mortgage allow me to pay a lump sum of up to £1000 off my mortgage per year - my question is if I use the rental profit towards this payment can I avoid paying tax here? Many thanks in advance,
  13. Pretty sure you can as my accountant mentioned it last year when I was submitting my tax return but I think it is apportioned. I'm not sure if this means if you return home to the UK for two weeks and spend 1 day viewing your property you can therefore claim 1/14th of the cost of the flight plus mileage to the property?
  14. Hi, For anyone that has rented out your property back in the UK, have you ever claimed the cost of flights back to inspect your property on your Australian tax return and if so roughly what percentage did you get back? Thanks in advance
  15. Just wondering if you have to complete this each year and submit to HMRC? Thanks
  16. Just looking for general opinion on this as I heard that with recent policy changes by the government it might not be worthwhile paying into. Thanks
  17. My partner applied on the 20/02 and we too are hoping that the visa approval time is closer to the 6 month mark than the 8-9 quoted. There seems to have been a few people recently who have got their visas within this time-frame so fingers crossed that this is a sign that the approval times have reduced and they have not simply been lucky and exception to the rule. If you look at the spreadsheet there are a few people who applied around the end end of January and on into mid-February so if 5-6 months processing time is indeed the new time-frame then hopefully we should start to see approvals for these people come through in the next few weeks.
  18. Hi, quick question - my tenant in my rental property in the UK advised me that the property needed a new front door so I replaced it with a new one (I knew before I rented the house out it would need replaced). Would this fall under the category of a maintenance cost and can it be claimed back on my UK tax return? Thanks
  19. Hi, I'm looking for an accountant to file my UK tax return and later my Australian one. I've been quoted around 700 dollars for the two, does this seem about the right price (this should be a fairly straight forward case)? This is only the first quote I've received so I will be looking for others. Thanks
  20. For those of you that have been granted your partner visa, do you ever really know if you are getting the 309 or 100 grant? I know those that are married are likely to get the 100 but if you have been in a relationship for 3 years (and not married) and only lived together for 12 months would that mean you are still considered for 100?
  21. That's good to hear, thanks guys. I'm not entirely sure if it's broken, the bridge is sore like when you have bad sinuses, maybe give it a day or two.
  22. Hi all, I think I may have broken my nose playing soccer yesterday and have no private health insurance. Given that an appointment to see a doctor cost me $45 dollars after Medicare rebate a few months ago does anyone have any indication of how much this might cost me for x-rays etc?
