  1. Live in sans. Souci , You will get something for around 550 with a garden , have a look on real estate.com . wifalso works at st george in kogarah , sometimes takes the car but mostly the bus can be at circular key in 45 mins by public. Transport, 5 mins to cronulla. very happy here.
  2. What visa do you hold if you are looking for sponsorship ? what makes you think it's ok to work illegally ?
  3. Can't believe that the uk has a shortage of skilled workers ? nurses who can't get jobs, construction workers struggling to find work ,cut backs with police and firemen are teachers in short supply ? Engineering graduates who can't get work .Britain is not closed just needs some strong leadership to put the country first and it's citizens not every one else. As I see it the only shortage is quality politicians ........
  4. The building trade is always the first to get hit, there are many things to take into consideration, when a down turn comes wages always get cut and they are big cuts. I was subcontracting to a guy working on price travelling 1.5 hrs to job pay worked out at 40 pounds a day then you can't get paid it takes. You weeks ended knocking on his door at a silly time in the morning to get my money this seems to be a common with site work at present in uk very poor pay ,this was the last time I worked on site (2009). i did private work but went through a quiet spell so took that work to try and keep going, the down side with private work its not a level playing field , if you run a proper company pay your taxes and vat you struggle to compete against the cash man and Eu labour market. the government need to sort the vat out on renovations to take the cowboy / cash advantage side away and make it a level playing field so its the same as a new build zero rated for vat.
  5. My youngest came out to see me , with Ethiad, as a 15 year old looked after all the way and a free up grade to business class to boot !
  6. We did what most have done bought has we went on, also had help off new friends we met , bought plates and other stuff as we needed it to get by,if you want to move to oz you will do it. Try gum tree some stuff that people give away free.Good luck with your move
  7. No it proved that any body can get what ever documentation from the Internet, all the information was passed onto the police who had the site closed down.
  8. I would be very surprised for job offers as site manager think your age would be against you unless some one knows what you are about. its very unusual with no trade qualifications , seen so many mistakes over here with the " university builder " approach , you can't beat experience . Good luck in your job hunt.
  9. The ielts test is a bit of a joke, wife had to take it to get our visa she is a nurse first day in work over here first patient interpreter required. you can get anything over the Internet today , when we lived back in uk ,I was a liecence holder of a night club the amount of fake stuff produced for ID was shocking all off the Internet , I even got I'd for my 14 year old daughter.
  10. Thought there were not enough jobs in the uk for the existing nurses in the uk ? ,why do you need to employ foreign labour ?
  11. As others have said e visitor visa is free all you need is you passport number it's the lodged electronically to your passport, lot of firms make good money from this it will take aprox 5 min to do.
  12. Examples I have seen recently include - omitting internal doors to many rooms and not employing a plaster finisher at all (just tape and sand). This is how they finish all plasterboard out here, this system is also used in the uk nothing wrong with it, lots of builders in uk use this now as it requires less water and quicker drying times.
  13. Watch out for the " extras or variations " as this is where builders will make big profit , ask for references that you can talk to and go and see the work.
  14. You will stand a better chance once you are out here, some things are similar to uk construction but I would say about 70 % is different if you can get a copy of BCA that would be a big help.
  15. You can do the white card on line, most company's will only give you a start if you are over here unless you know some one. It's very different building out here, might be worth having a look at the building code of Australia or BCA. Good luck with your move. tools out here run on 240v same as uk so if you can bring everything over with you, I also brought my 110v stuff and use this get some funny looks at times but works ok.
  16. Wife has opportunity of job here just wondering what the job situation is like for carpenters / site managers up there. Getting fed up with the sydney rat race. Thanks
  17. Need to check to see if job is on the wanted list , construction is slowing down with rates dropping but not as bad as uk. it is totally different the way things are built over here with regulations completely different take alook at the BUilding codes of Austraila
  18. What type of job are you looking for are you time served in any trade , how old are you ?
  19. Reading about this skills tests makes me laugh , I have been working over here now for 2.5 years , a am a timed served carpenter /joiner for just over 30 years now and have to say that I don't think you would have to cut a hunched mortise and Tennon joint on site , I have only ever done 2 tusk Tennon joints in that time back in the uk. most of the none uk carpenters I have come across don't own a hand plane, hand saw don't understand how to sharpen tools on a oil stone,if they can't turn it on with a switch they don't want to use it, I have done a fair few traditional cut roofs over here as the guys I was working with did not know where to start, the big problem over here is they all specalizie in one area ,framing ,2nd fix stairs, flooring ,roofing etc they are not like uk guys who do everything .
  20. Would agree with B&P there is work about but it is slowing down as rates have dropped a bit, mate up in Cairns said its week to week with work slowing down.
  21. Been driving over here for nearly 2.5 years, over all I don't think the standard is not as good as the uk, the amount of people you see using phones etc is very high maybe because most cars are automatics . look at the amount of people killed on the roads over Christmas in OZ compared to uk think that sums it up and compare the amount of cars on the road to the two countries
  22. The inexperienced driver bit has got me you can get a licence by producing your uk one for the amount of time I have been driving you don't need Any P plates but the insurance company hit you with this, can't say the standard of driving over here is the best I have seen
