  1. Hi, speaking as someone who has just come through bankruptcy in the UK from Australia I cannot recommend Bankruptcy from Abroad highly enough. When I was first looking into it I looked at the threads on Poms in Oz and their name came up a few times. I googled them etc. and if I'm perfectly honest, I wasn't 100% sure if they were a scam or not, but I enquired anyway. That was in September 2014. We had an initial Skype conversation where it was agreed that bankruptcy would be the best option for us. The process was really, really easy, and reasonably priced too. By the 26th November we had been declared bankrupt in the UK. Michael, our contact at BfA was so helpful, we had problems throughout the year with our bank, but we'd paid for them to sort out all our creditors so all we had to do was let them have the correspondence we'd received and they dealt with it straight away, copying us in on anything they sent out. We received an email from Michael last week saying we were officially debt free, having served our year as bankrupt! It had no effect on us in Australia. I'd be happy to answer anybody's questions on here if they had any doubts about using Bankruptcy from Abroad - and after that glowing report I thnk I should be on commission!!!!
  2. Thanks for all your help. I am now absolutely gutted :-(
  3. Hi, we have recently moved to Qld and in a few years my parents would like to make the move also. (I have one sister living in NZ and a brother who will stay in the UK). My parents are just worrying about their pensions etc in the UK. Can they still claim them? (They are very much working class, my dad was a miner and is of the mind that he's worked all his life and doesn't want to walk away with nothing!!) :-) Also what happens with the state pension that they also get in the UK? Would they get something similar in Oz instead? It's just a lot of money for them to spend (a large chunk of the proceeds of their house sale) and they don't want to be worse off financially, even if they will be better off by being near their grandkids! Any info you could give would be a help! Many thanks, Anita
  4. What did you choose in the end? We moved to Pac Pines in July and love it. The kids go to Pac Pines Primary and they absolutely love it (they went to a small, church aided primary in the UK). Have you settled well?
  5. Hi could anyone advise the best schools for an 8 & 10 year old in Upper Coomera please? Many thanks!
  6. Hi, we're in the process of moving in a couple of months. Our removal costs are coming in at £5500 for a 20ft sole use container to go to Mackay. For a shared container it was £5300 this is based on a 3 bed semi. Hope that helps. Sorry dont have any knowledge of moving with pets.
  7. Hi, due to move in 8 weeks and still undecided where to go for the best!!!! does anyone have any knowledge of the job market for welders in either Mackay or the suburbs of Brisbane or Gold Coast. Just don't know where to go for the best. Don't want to get to mackay to find no jobs and then have to pay a fortune to move further south!!:arghh: Any help would be appreciated!!!
  8. Hi, what jobs do you have to go to, if you don't mind me asking? We've just booked our flights to Mackay for June.
  9. Hi, we're looking to move to Mackay in July, husband is a welder looking for work. Any info on Blacks Beach area?? Many thanks x
  10. We contacted DIAC to find out if they were an authorised company to be able to offer 457 visas/ labour agreements. I got an email back saying because of confidentiality they could neither confirm or deny. Not much help!!! We didn't pay them any money but they do have all our birth certificates, qualification certs, everything of that nature.
  11. Hi, I'm currently subscribed to a thread 'labour agreement' which is basically quite a lot of people who are currently waiting on their 457's coming through. Some have paid money, some haven't, through one or two companies who are both linked together. We were brought together through the common goal of thinking that we would be in Australia by the end of March. That remains to be seen, but in the meantime, I hope you don't mind but I just copied your post into that thread with your details saying that I'd copied it from you, (as I couldn't link it for some reason)!!
  12. [h=2]Hi all, I was just browsing PIO and found this which was posted by Jules2409 (sorry I couldn't link it any other way than copying and pasting). We are currently waiting to hear from WWR regarding a 457 but after reading this, and the fact we have two children and could be asked to leave within 28 days if the work dries up, I don't know if the risk is worth it? Read on and see what you think?......... Death threats over 457 visa[/h] This doesn't concern British migrants but nonetheless is an indication of the mood in certain trades towards migrants being brought in on 457 visas. I read the full story in the Financial Review today but can only find this on-line http://www.menafn.com/menafn/ec0cdc6f-76ab-4ed4-a806-4f149c240afd/Death-threats-over-457-visas?src=MWHEAD In searching for that article I came across this, which also talks about some of the issues 457 workers face http://www.greenleft.org.au/node/52160 We came over 4 years ago on a 457 visa but had sufficient points for skilled migration and my OH had already passed his skills assessment, the 457 was just a way of getting here faster and with an assisted relocation. I didn't think at the time 'what if we don't get PR' i simply assumed we would, I think that was very naive now and unless you are happy to accept you can be asked to leave the country in 28 days I wouldn't recommend anyone taking a 457. If you add to that a less than joyous welcome by your new workmates or exploitation from your boss and it could be a nightmare. Jules2409
  13. Hi Scottishstacey, some have, some haven't paid. Anita
  14. Hang on in there Clara, it might all work out. What else did the reply say?? Is there no way that you could go for PR?? Someone I'm in contact with put their EOI in and within a couple of weeks they were picked out xx
  15. Has anybody had any response since the big generic email that went out last week?
  16. We haven't heard anything since the email that was sent to everyone last week telling us of the change to the climate for jobs. I haven't heard anything about August. We haven't be asked to apply for VETASSES. Still trying to remain positive. We haven't sold our house yet so we're not in such a bad position as some of the others on here. The ones who mention August, what profession are they for??
  17. hi Clara, If he has a WHV I would strongly suggest he goes and uses it. Although it will be hard to be separated I think it will be the best chance of getting face to face with potential employers. Once they see him face to face and see what he can do, then he can explain fully what the 457 entails. Currently we're applying for all these jobs and as soon as they see we're still in UK, we get dismissed straight away. I was in Sydney (1999-2000) on a WHV, working for Westpac, after 3 months they wanted to sponsor me to stay, but at the time I just wanted to do my year and go home - I could kick myself now, but at the time I wasn't ready to stay over there on my own. I'm keeping everything crossed that WWR come up trumps and we all get our 457's, but we have to be practical. I just wish I was young enough for a WHV!!!!
  18. My husband is a Welder. it's all happening very quickly, although things have gone rather quiet since we submitted our form, plus bank hol in Oz this week.
  19. Labour Agreements are awarded to companies by the Australian Immigration. Any companies that don't treat people properly can (and have) had their LA status withdrawn. No agency is going to jeopardise losing their status with DIAC. Did you decide to go for it??
  20. Hi, we have been accepted on a LA with OBI in Brisbane (through Worldwide-Recruit), have submitted the 1066 form and just waiting to hear. I didn't realise we had to source our own job, can someone explain exactly how it works? I've obviously misunderstood. I know I have to be out there by 20th March under the terms of the LA. Many thanks
  21. Could you please advise email address to send CV to. many thanks
  22. Hi Katie2007 I've sent you a PM with my email address on x
  23. does anybody know how to go about getting sponsorship for a Welder? We have been applying for positions that come up, and we are visiting 'Working In' expo in November. Also, is it difficult to get into welding in the mining industry without any previous experience in mining? Many thanks
