  1. Backdating basing on an announcement without even a Bill drafted doesn't seem the norm to me. Avalanche of applications? Only those meeting the residency requirements would be eligible, therefore I don't see any increase in the volume of applications if the retrospective nature of the proposal will be dropped. Labor is against certain aspects and I have personally received responses in this direction from MPs and senators from their party. Time will tell if this will become law or not, for the moment the above is just your speculation.
  2. Apparently yes, particularly on the English requirement (many MPs contacted are keeping saying that being good at grammar doesn't make you necessarily a good citizen). Greens are against the change, but most importantly many (including liberals) are concerned abut the retrospective aspect of the proposal. It's just speculation here, but probably the bill (once drafted) will go through in many aspects and few things will be dropped (hopefully the retroactive date). Cheers.
  3. Hi All, I applied on April 23rd and meet both old and new requirements (4.5 years as PR and 8 in the IELTS test taken 5 years ago). I personally don't like the English requirement (redundant in my case and not fair for genuine refugees, who could not get quality education in their home country), but most of all what I can't stand is the retrospective nature of the proposed change and the consequent loop/limbo where my application is sitting at the moment. I have expressed my concerns sending an email to the DIPB and I urge everyone to do so (public comments are invited by 1st June 2017 by emailing citizenship.submissions@border.gov.au). It's important to clarify that to make such changes, the Government will need to draft a Bill, present it to the parliament and have it passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate, before it becomes law. Right now the proposed citizenship changes are in a “consultation phase” and the Bill has not been drafted. Once again, best course of action is to submit your view to citizenship.submissions@border.gov.au and contact your local MP.
  4. Hi All, we were granted our Skilled Independent Permanent Visa (subclass 175) back in September 2012. I first validated my visa as primary applicant in December 2012, found a job and moved all the family (wife and two small kids) in April 2013. Next month (December 2016) it will be 4 years from my visa validation date, that means I will be able to apply for citizenship (I meet all the other requirements including residency). The idea is to have just one ceremony for all the family once our application has been approved. My questions are: Can I apply in December, have the test in January (or whenever available) and attend the ceremony together with the rest of the family later during the year (June 2017)? Can I include my kids (aged 7 and 4) in my application in December, even if they first entered the country in April 2013 (so technically even if they haven't been in Australia for 4 years)? The other option is to wait for April 2017, when all secondary applicants will have spent 4 years in Australia, and apply all together at the same time, hence sharing the same timeline. In this case, hopefully we will be able to sort everything out before September 2017 when the visa expires, without the need to apply for a Resident Return Visa. Thanks you in advance.
  5. GRAAAANTEEEEEED!!!! I just checked online and found our application has been approved!!! So fast!!! Waiting for my migration agent to send me everything!
  6. Everyone will be pink in 2 weeks I guess...
  7. I am pink now, allocated a CO yesterday! Asked for medicals, all documents are met!
  8. I have created my EOI even if I have already lodged my application before the 1st of July, today I received a message, just 100 invitations for the first round through skill select. It means that these new applicants, even if they will have priority in CAT 4 against us, probably they are too few to actually impact on the CO allocation process. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but they shouldn't delay, at least in August, the CO allocation for 175ers. Crossing fingers to have a CO soon for us all!
  9. CO allocated for June 175ers is a good news for us all!
  10. It shouldn't be the case, until Aug 11th no new application for 190 visa will be lodged and 189 visa invitations will be submitted only in early August. Even if many people applied before Jul 1st, there will not be many applications lodged in July...
  11. I hope these month several applicants will receive a CO, since there will not be any new application lodged until August...
  12. Congrats Sujit!!! I have just lodged my application, and started crossing everything...
