  1. The waiting time is getting ridiculous. I feel like they'll introduce a visa similar to "Parent Retirement Visa" in NZ with high entry requirements.
  2. Asking for someone: With the 405 closed. What options exist for someone over 65 with no family ties in Australia. I am aware of the PIV/SIV options but they can't afford those visas.
  3. Out of the $100k, you'll get about $14k(with interest) back after 10 years. During the 10 year period, they will have access to Medicare and "urgent" assistance from Centrelink. Best thing to do is for them to start renting even if it is get a feel for the area. Will they be working? As others have said, look into the First home owner grant in your state. Find a good mortgage broker to help with the tricky mortgage situations, there are ways around it but may involve good incomes, significant asset base, low lvr and/or you jumping on the application. Good luck.
  4. Just curious: Between April 20th and when the bill was dropped sometime in October. Did DIBP ever stop accepting new citizenship applications?
  5. Anyone happen to know realistic waiting times for Centrelink to process an AoS application? I was told 8 weeks! Does it change from state to state? I am in WA.
  6. If you are not single, then your partner could do it. A third party can do it (if you can convince someone). A company/ABN can do it but AoS costs a lot more if you take the company/ABN route.
  7. it's next week. Hoooooooray. Hang in there - the holiday season is over, things will be back to normal speed.
  8. Hi @leanie I don't know how you got the e-mail address of your citizenship application CO? The lady that handled my application at DIAC office in Perth said someone will process my application for the final approval. I called the general hotline after 2 weeks and was told on the phone that it was recently approved, the letter came a bit later. The holiday season makes everything sloooow. May have to give it a week or two before things get back to normal.

  10. Interesting. Visit visas aren't "resident" (temporary or otherwise) visas though. Didn't know they counted towards residency requirements.
  11. PVC not responding to status e-mails? It's been several days. Anyone getting through?
  12. If all the previous travels were on visitor visas then they won't count towards the residence requirements and have to wait 4 more years.

We are currently assessing applications lodged up to 4 February 2016. The TR to PR processing date hasn't moved in weeks but the other dates are moving a tad faster than usual. They may have assigned more resources to first time applications. Which is good as people on TR visas are already in the country.
  14. I tried this, they wouldn't even let me pick Rural WA let alone another State.
  15. Some people were told on the spot by the CO but most get a letter in the mail a week or two later. I got mine about 2 weeks after my test date. As for ceremony dates, really depends on the council. Mine said sometime in January potentially.
  16. Congratulations @leanie Feels like only a few months ago that I was in the PR process. Time sure does fly. Wonder what the rest of the March 2012 gang is doing.
  17. If she is on a 804, wouldn't she have medicare direct? If she is on a bridging visa, would be interested to know how the system works for non permanent-residents?
  18. Hi @leanie Have to take originals of all the documents that were used as evidence in the application. They seem to be checking identity from home country and local documents. Local documents were easy. I got my birth certificate laminated a few years ago. The CO said, it's much harder to verify authenticity if it's laminated and asked me if I had any more documents. I didn't have any on me at the time but seems to have worked out. So if you have any other identity documents then take them with you. The test is super easy to say the least. Do the questions from the official pdf, have a play of the youtube videos and off you go. Good luck. I did have a try of these unofficial test websites - some of the questions are not part of the testable content so don't worry if you don't get them all http://www.aussiecitizenshiptest.com/free-test/1 http://www.theaustraliantest.com/free-test/
  19. What's the current processing time in getting a lodgement date after PVC received a CPV 143 application? PS: There used to be a parent visa tracker at gainwave. It doesn't seem to work any more. Any other trackers out there?
  20. @stirlingperth As many times as you want. Request a callback, wait for them to call you and straight away say what your current test date is and that you are wondering if there are any earlier dates. They won't even bother asking your details most of the time and directly check their system for you.
  21. Anyone with any insight into when the parent visa 2nd VAC fee will be hiked? Things seem to be in motion for BIG changes based on PC's migration report
  22. Except for the tedious application form and long delay for the test date. It was smooth sailing. Fingers crossed for you to get a test date soon.
  23. Hey @leanie sorry to hear about your woes with the application process. The application does seem unnecessarily long for what seems like information they already have. My approval letter came through. Now for the last step, wait for the council to book me into a ceremony.
  24. Congratulations. I took my test last Tuesday. Yet to receive a letter. Is yours dated 24th or 18th?
  25. My test date is in early November. I applied 2 weeks ago. Not much luck in rescheduling so far. Something happened in Perth, the lady on the phone said she thought Perth was like in September or something but didn't realize it filled up till November.
