  1. Unfortunately not clarification from AHPRA. However, there are a few ladies on the FB page for nurses seeking Ahpra and they've very recently gained reg with SCPHN degree so I'm hoping this will be the case for me. Ive been scrutinizing the Ahpra website.... yet again .... And it does appear that the degree criteria is still being 'waived' for mh diploma nurses subject to supervision. However, I'm really keen to stay in a health visitor type role. It's so difficult trying to get answers.... I keep thinking I've got my head round it, then I read something and start in a panic mode. Last week it was about criterion 8, this week it's jobs... Or lack of them....
  2. Hi everyone, I am a diploma MH nurse with a degree in specialist practice (health visiting). After a few (!) meltdowns I have clarified that I can seek registration with the degree. My question is this; as an RMN - am I eligible to apply for child and family health nurse posts?? On job adverts it simply specifies RN? Will I be restricted to just mental health jobs despite my HV qualification? I have tried emailing various government health depts but haven't had any replies and AHPRA just reply with an automated generic email. Is there anyone on here who work as child and family health nurse but are RMN's? I am hoping to come over on PR to NSW - if there is anyone on here with any ideas of who I could contact for further guidance? Any help greatly appreciated
  3. Hi everyone, I apologise if this has been asked before - I have become a little hazy looking at many posts on many different threads and forums I am a MH Nurse by trade but now a health visitor ( 2 years HV experience post SCPHN degree). After many months of deliberation between a 457 and 189, we have opted to try for the latter as more secure with a family etc etc..However, my question is this; AMNAC state I need 3 months full time equivalent paid work experience. With the exception of working FT as a student HV in 2013, I have always worked PT. I currently work 24 hrs a week and have done since I qualified. Excuse me if I sound thick but do I need to work FT for 3 months or do AMNAC just want the total of what would be FT in 3 months covered somewhere in the last 5 years. Sorry, if I'm sounding confusing .. Thank you in advance
  4. I am a Dip HE trained MH nurse but I have since gained an honours degree (BSc) in specialist community public health nursing AKA health visiting. Does anyone know if the powers that be are accepting this as a means to register as a nurse in Oz?? thank you
  5. Thanks for your input. It sounds like a bit like here in reverse where people did a "part p" course and called themselves electricians. I guess as time passes the employers will get to grips with it. Are you looking to do your contractor course to work self employed or to start a business and employ others? That would be my aim if coming across.
  6. Hi everyone. Just checking in as getting closer to when making the decision to jump ship. What is the job market like at the moment? Not looking to earn the mining money just want a job in the area of what I love. Thanks james
  7. Hi everyone, Ive been following this thread for a while now, is it really doom and gloom for a UK Sparky to come and work in Australia? If it is all doom and gloom why is the skill still on the wanted list? I dont want to work in the mines im mainly an installation electrician for domestic and light commercial. I run a small NICEIC business (5 guys work for me) is there any need for electricians with this sort of experience?
  8. So if I come on my wifes visa I dont have to do the log book training? can anyone post a link to the relevant course at the tate college I can never seem to find them thanks
  9. Not so simple if you are over 30, as visa restriction is 18-30 years only. But, is the course classed as work?? Can you carry this out whilst actually on a holiday? could you just go on holiday for a month and do the course?
  10. Hi all, I havent posted in a while. Has anyone recently been through the new process to get an A Grade licence? Reading the posts on here its seems at minefield that I'm surprised any UK electricians actually end up going? We have two options for migration purposes, 1st come across on my Electrical qualifications or 2nd migrate on my wife's nursing qualifications. If we come across on my wife's qualifications is it easier for myself to get the A-grade licence? If we come across on mine, what is the true route you have to follow? I understand VETASSES etc its the minefield in Australia that no one seems clear about. we are looking at New south wales or Perth. It really depends on where we will both get work and whos visa we come across on. Thanks in advance James
  11. Hi everyone, we are still looking into visa options. A migration agent has suggested to us that the easiest way to get PR is the ENS on my trade as an electrician. However, is this the easiest route?? How simple, easy , realistic is it to find an employer to sponsor an electrician. Im sure I have read on this site and others that its difficult. Does anyone know anything? btw, we wish to go with PR. We dont qualify for 175 and although I have 5 years work experience as a spark, I only finished all my trade qualifications this year so have no post qualifying experience. Thanks James
  12. Hi, Can you please give us advice as to whether its worth bringing my OH van across. (He is an electrician so will need a van once in oz) Ford Transit (2010) Limited edition, Short wheel base, Air con, Alloys. 2.2L diesel, 115bhp, 6 speed gearbox 21k mileage, manual UK Price approx 10k Thanks Sarah
  13. Hi need some advice I took a back handed route at getting "qualified" and now feel a little stuck. I joined the family electrical contracting business in Nov 2007 and jumped straight onto the tools. I studied in the evening and completed my City and Guilds 2330 in Jan 2012, I did my 17th Electrical regulations in May 2008, my Test and inspect in Jan 2011, and my NVQ Level 3 completed in Jan 2012 along with my AM2, I also hold a business degree which I completed in March 2001. I run a business along side my father (Electrical engineer) as he agreed to help because I felt it was important that I had a trade on top of my other qualifications. The Business employ's 8 members of staff. I'm having problems getting my head around how I apply for my visa as certain states ask for XYZ years post qualifying experience. Without blowing my own trumpet its not how long you have been doing something it is whether you do it well that counts. I hired and fired plenty of "JIB" electricians who don't know their arse from their elbow. (I know not all of them are like that I employ several very good ones) My point is how do I portray this on the VISA application? Im still on the Tools for 70% of my working week (bearing in mind my working week is about 80 hours long.) Has any one else had these issues? Thanks in advance James
  14. Hi thanks for all of this what I dont understand is what you do for work between completing your Vetassess in the UK, you have then landed in OZ then as I have read on this forum you need an OZ address to book the TRA (ARTC) "what do these acoynms stand for?" then you book a Pre electrical course are the OZ courses as mentioned above running weekly/monthly? I fear that once I touch down I will have to wait weeks or months before I can work and earn money? thanks james
  15. I will start my elective in August but unfortunately wouldn't be able to do mine in OZ although that would be a fantastic experience. To get out sooner, we think we will try to go out on James's electrician qualification, and again saving! Good luck with your plans
  16. Hi Me again trying to fill out the vetassess application and it guides me to a tradeSET website. I'm a qualified Electrician so am I an Electrical Contractor or am I an Electrician General? Does it matter? Any advice gratefully received James
  17. Hi everyone Can anyone recommend a migration agent that is great for us electricians, I'm based in Sussex so someone local would be better I'm also run my own business so again any migration agent that specialises in this the better. thanks James
  18. Ideally Queensland or Adelaide but it does depend on where James can find work as an electrician. It all seems so far away and lots to resolve in this country first. We would like to go across on my visa as its cheaper but it all rests on whether I will find the necessary work after qualifying.
  19. Hi, The perm skilled visa needs you to have 1 year post qualifying experience. I was just asking if its based on no of hours etc... The reason will wont be moving for 2.5 years is because it is going to take us that long to raise the funds lol.
  20. Hi, Apologies if this question has already been asked; I will qualify as an RMN at the end of this year. We plan to come across on a perm skilled visa in approx 2.5 years. BUT.... Jobs are few and far between for mental health nurses in Sussex at the mo. I know I will need at least 1 year post qualifying experience but does that mean you have to be continually employed on a FT basis? Would it be adequate to have worked bank shifts ad hoc for at least a year? Is there a minimum number of practice hours you have to do? Any help appreciated! Thanks
  21. Hi Looking for some general advice, I'm mainly a domestic installation electrician, I do run my own business and employ 14 electricians, when we emigrate, what opportunities are there for someone with this skill set? I do have the practical skills in commercial and industrial but rightly or wrongly I like the domestic side of the business. I am happy to work for someone again but I cannot find realistic wage earnings for this particular area. Which part of Australia would be best to focus on for this particular type of work? Thanks in advance
  22. Thanks for your quick response that is really helpful. We have three children so would be looking to go over on a PR visa. On a State sponsored Visa are there any restrictions? We are getting muddled with all the different types of visas. Would we have to pay for education for example? is state sponsored generally a better option than the usual PR visa? Also; (forgive me if I have missed it in a post) did your OH run his own business in the UK? If he did how did he feel about working for someone else again?
  23. Hi really interested to here how this pans out as Sarah will be a Mental Health Nurse and I am an electrician. I get the impression that by going over on your VISA your OH doesn't have to do the VETASESS assessment and can carry out an assessment in OZ to work as an electrician? Also we are looking at either Adelaide or Brisbane, not sure where would be best for both of our trades? James
