  1. Hey Stacey! I booked my flight before I had all of my savings, the first time i went. It worked as an incentive, because I KNEW I had to save a certain amount by the time I got on that plane. Unless you think there isn't a hope in hell of you reaching your target amount by then, I would say book up, if the price is right. Oh, also. Hiya! It's been a while I know. (In the middle of finals this month!) How are you? I'm sure there's loads for us to catch up on! xx
  2. Sounds wonderful Sarah, and absolutely clinically relevant! It would be wonderful to be able to get the information out to the public. So little is known, even by the patients themselves about the issues that can affect the lower limb when someone has Diabetes. Fair play! x
  3. Hey my love, yeah, not too bad at all thanks! Very busy as I'm in my penultimate term. I've only 2 exams left hopefully! As long as I pass everything! Also just had my final clinical placement confirmed, which is very exciting. How are you? xx
  4. So, I can't even believe I'm writing this post, but; almost 4 years on, I'm hopefully only 2 exams away from qualifying as a Podiatrist! Can you actually believe that? I've still got to write my dissertation, but we won't talk about that! Haha. Anyway, As I get ever closer to becoming a Podiatrist, I have been looking into the process of registering my skills so that I can work in Australia, as has always sort of been the plan. I don't know about visas or anything yet, I still fancy coming out on a WHV and seeing how I like it, but I'll still need all the relevant bits of paper, so my main question, is where do I even start? Who do I contact and what should I expect? Am I right in thinking I need to have my HCPC registration here in the UK before I can apply for the Australian equivalent? I am hoping my UK reg should be here sometime in August. Oh I'm so confused haha, I don't know how long the process might take, if i can start looking at visas before get my registration, can I start making tentative job inquiries? Any way anyone might be able to break the steps down at all, would be greatly appreciated, maybe @littlesarah is still on the forum? Sorry its been so long since I've been active, but I've been working 3 jobs to get through Uni and haven't really had any time to get online. Anyway, thanks ever so much for taking the time to read this and I look forward to maybe getting that one step closer. Wow, remember when I first came on here, I hadn't even got onto my access course at that point! Scary!
  5. Try telling me that on a cold November night, full of assignment and Pharmacology HELL! No, you're right Stace, it's so close I can taste it. I have to keep getting inspiration to study through threads like this and Youtube videos of people on their WHV. x
  6. Can I just say that I am exceptionally jealous! Enjoy yourselves, it will be incredible, maybe you'll all still be out there when I eventually make it over. x
  7. Thank you! That means a lot! This forum is a huge part of the motivation that got me through things at the beginning when they were really tough. The people on here were and are fantastic! :-)
  8. Oh wow Shoes! Congratulations, sorry I didn't reply, I haven't really been on the forum much lately! That is incredible news. Keep in touch won't you and you'll be a second year in no time with a little baby to spur you on. How amazing! xx
  9. Holy cow! That's incredible, well done! Please keep us up to date with how you get one. That is an incredible opportunity! I've just started my 4th and final year and very excited if a little nervous. If everything goes to plan, I should be qualified in July. That's SCARY! Hope everyone is well and the studying is going well. If I'm completely honest, I've been finding it really hard to get motivated this term, which is not wonderful, but I am starting to get the buzz again which is a nice feeling.
  10. You don't need a return ticket at all. My brother is out there on his first WHV and he arrived on a one way ticket. I'm planning on doing the same sometime in the not too distant future as well. Have an amazing time!
  11. Magnetic Island, also when you go to Byron Bay, which you have too, even though everyone else does, you must stay at the arts factory. Opposite the Buddha bar. AMAZING!
  12. I forgot to mention last night, that sometimes it is worth flying to Amsterdam first and then continuing from there. I've done that before and there are sometimes some serious deals to be had. My brother flew to Brisbane with Singapore last month from Amsterdam, He paid around 400 EURO for a single. That's not bad. All he had to do was jump on a cheap 6am flight from Bristol to Amsterdam and bingo. No having to hack all the way to London first either. I should also mention that we are also Dutch, so a couple of days in The Netherlands before a long haul flight where we can spend time with family isn't exactly difficult, but it might be worth a look.
  13. I meant £1000, made a mistake, all fixed now. Impossible? Funnily enough, at the time no. I know someone who flew Air Asia X via KL to Melbs, they paid £86 one way. I saw their receipt and Itinerary. Unfortunately Air Asia don't fly to the UK anymore, nor are those sorts of deals around as far as I know. Always willing to be proven wrong though.
  14. I paid £600 odd when I went in July to Oz from the UK and back just for a holiday. I flew Emirates and they were fab! I know that was a seriously good price, they do exist sometimes. When I went a few years back, I flew Cathay and payed as close to £1000 as makes no odds, I think that's the usual price give or take.
  15. I'm hoping to do the same too! (I can't believe I'm actually saying that!!!) I'm in my final year of my degree, I will finish in the summer, then need to work and get my registration before I go. I probably won't be going for another 18-24 months, but when I joined the forum it was 6 years away! Getting there slowly lol! STACE!?!?!?!? You're going to soon?? Brilliant! We totally need a catch up, I'm so behind. x
  16. That is perfect! Thank you ever so much, it is showing as being offshore, so no need to worry. Really appreciate the replies. I was just worried how they stamped my passport when I arrived but not when I left, like they did in my old passport. Thanks again anyway, it's put my mind at ease.
  17. Hi gang, This is a random one, most of you will know that I had a holiday in Australia a few weeks ago, well, I arrived on a brand spanking new passport that was all fine. when I got to immigration at the airport, they couldn't scan my passport and they had to ring someone or something to check that it was ok, then they stamped it and I was on my way. The same thing happened on the way home, they couldn't scan it and I had to wait while they rang some office. The officer said he had never seen a passport like this before and it must be a new way the Dutch government are doing things, he handed me back my passport and I got on the plane. The other day I looked through my passport and there is no stamp in it to say I actually left Australia, also they were obviously unable to scan it. My question is, how do I get in contact with immigration to double check that they know I left the country as per my visa conditions and I am not overstaying? I have this awful vision of trying to go back in a year or 2 and being slapped with a 3 year ban. Any advice would be very much appreciated, so thanks in advance. :-)
  18. :-( as a Dutch citizen I'm only allowed the one. If I become an Aus citizen at any point I would have to renounce my Dutch citizenship. Go for as many as you can. :-) x
  19. It's primarily about Australia I'm afraid. You get the odd Kiwi on, but it's all about moving to and living in Oz, hence the name. Hope your loving NZ!
  20. As far as I understand it, you can only work for six months for one employer on each visa. So you can work 12 months for the same employer in total, however, you would need to wait for your second visa to kick in before you can do the second set of six months. I hope that makes sense. :-)
