  1. France is lovely but Paris smells of wee and is full of rats.... :0)
  2. That's tough if you are apart, sorry to hear that. I am living with Aussie partner here in UKL at the moment so it's not too awful waiting, although if you're impatient like i am , still a bit tedious. i really think they just process in date received order unless there are very special circumstances. i think the clock starts ticking from when they receive your application rather than meds etc. From what i understand from friends, the grapevine etc, yes, 309/100's were being processed in a few weeks to a couple of months in 2009 in straightforward cases. I am pretty certain that is no longer the case. Although when i got my meds done last week, the doctor said to me (oh well, they'll be almost ready to issue your visa if you've got to the stage of submitting medicals". Reading people's replies this is clearly not the case any more, although it probably was 2 or 3 years ago. Why it has changed i don't know. I think possibly there have been a fair number of changes to the immigration system over the past 3 years and perhaps ( speculating ) that some of the resourcing may hve been pulled onto other aspects of the system in more need . Or new systems may have been taking time to bed in . Or it may be a case of numbers . Certainly everyone you speak to says getting a partner visa is straightforward compared to other routes. However it is tedious to wait.
  3. Supposedly the wait time is 5-6 months. Certainly looking through previous posts it appears that this is the case. The ocassional person seems to get theirs done in 4 months. However i wonder whether now they are in a new "visa year" (from 1 July 2012 ) any backlog - i think there were more applications than expected last year - may be cleared and they might start to catch up. Who knows? It is frustrating having to wait but i think its best to just chill and accept there will be not much news forthcoming , following a 300 or 309/100 application , for several months once it starts getting processed.
  4. had confirmation on Friday that i passed my medicals and the results should be with the authorities in Australia by middle of this week. hopefully then there won't be such a huge wait for the Visa. Getting quite excited now....can't bloody wait to move to Melbourne. Applied for 309/100 but am desperate to get the 100 straight off to enhance my employment prospects.been with my partner 7 years and just fingers crosssed the proof we sent was enough and the visa gods shine on us.
  5. Personally over the last few years i have developed quite a dislike of Christmas in the UK. It is so crass and commercialised, more so than in any other country. It brings the country to a standstill for a fortnight of running around spending and stress. I've enjoyed a few Christmasses away from the UK in the last 10 years , Canaries, etc and it was a breath of fresh air. I'm hoping Christmas in Oz will be the same. I loved Christmas in the UK as a child but fell out of love with all the over the top naffness and cashing in that goes on. It's nonsense.
  6. Got various personal stuff back in the post following the application last week . Cards, photos etc. I am having medical this week and hopefully then that's it - will ask the case officer LG when all the info is in, for an estimated date of grant. fingers crossed once they get into their new year from 1 July things will speed up. !
  7. i think you need to have been together 3 years to get a 100 class visa and 12 months to get a 309 . I have applied for defacto and have been with my partner 7 years, though living together for 6. if you are married and have kids i imagine you can go straight to 100 without much issue, if you have the evidence! i got notification from Australia House that i need to go and get medical, etc today . A person wrote to me with initials LG . Hopefully i will get the medical done and passed shortly and then we shall see. Letter quoted 5-6 month wait for Visa.
  8. A good sign as i expect they put your details in on the system and set you up as a new case when they take the payment. Let's see what next week brings!
  9. The London Australian High Commission have now taken my money within a day of sending the application to htem ! So at least i know they got the application.. Hope to hear with confirmation of a case officer shortly.
  10. Just a thought...sorry, i'm new -- and hoping to move to Melbourne in a few months ( currently i live in London) . Do you not think that perhaps as Melbourne is a city around 10 times the size of Bristol that you will see proportionately more "violence and stabbings" if you work in a major city hospital in Melbourne? Because the city of Melbourne is so much bigger than Bristol, and the hospitals centralised, you may be getting a distorted view of "violence"? I just wonder ( and it's just a thought) that many British folks that do emigrate to Oz from the Uk go to very large cities in Australia as it's a very urban based society . Many people emigrating from the UK leave their medium sized towns, or even villages, and go and live what is essentially a big City life down under .... when they never have done that in the UK. Bcause the vast majority of aussies live in cities of millions of people - and so do most of the emigrants. Is this not part of the culture shock in itself, and a reason for some people's dissatisfaction? That they are actually living "city life" for the first time and haven't factored into their expectations, that often living in a very big city (with big city issues) is part of most Aussie's lives?
  11. Hi Jimmy here . I just submitted my defacto visa application yesterday. Hoping to move to Melbourne in March with my partner. Excited! Will keep all posted with progress!
