  2. Actually I've just had another look, I think Sharon from Brisbane might be a bloke. What do other readers think. LOL
  3. And the winner is Sharon from Brisbane.
  4. Some typical Ozzies (NOT the little kid in the middle)
  5. I learnt that little poem over here and I must say ......... I like it !!
  6. Why on earth would he miss Bunnings when he's got the delights of B&Q !! Years ago when we first arrived in OZ I thought they were both part of the same company, but they're not. I did and still do find that fact difficult to believe.
  7. Are you australian by any chance ?
  8. Ptp, acronym, meaning, Painfully too positive.
  9. What can you say, British criminal stock, old habits die hard.
  10. Take everything because white goods along with everything else here are mega expensive. One thing though just check with Australian gov re bringing the fridge. I think they're a bit funny with fridges because of bacteria or some such. I saw that somebody mentioned that a UK fridge wouldn't be " strong enough for Australia". Not true you can buy exactly the same fridges at Harvey Norman here in Australia as you can at Curry's in the UK. The only difference, as mentioned before is the price, at least twice as much.

    Rip off!

It never ceases to amaze me that when people post something that is clearly right on the mark, ie in this instance Harpo, Carterucker, GPO1971. there will always be someone out there wanting to disagree. Where are you people actually living if you don't think the prices here are a total rip off ? I somehow do not believe it can be Australia.
  12. Little bit off subject but hey ho. Balloon Saloon Baboon Dragoon Maroon (marone WTF ):arghh:
  13. I have also heard the same thing from various sources so I reckon its true. It was stamped Manchester to identify the port of departure. Trust them to get the wrong end of the stick, ha ha.
  14. yes had a very good flight - there is only 1 cafe at the airport so big queue for coffee but then again we had quite a long wait and there was nothing else to do! Highly recommended - dont remember it being a 'dry' flight but then again sometimes its better for you not to mix flying and drinking ! LOL
  15. Way to go. The Scottish accent is very strong and does not get subdued easily. Just look at Jimmy Barnes, arrived on a 10 pound ticket in about 1966, sounds like he just walked out of the Gorbals yesterday. I'm from West London, I would be devastated if my family said I sounded Aussie when I go back home.
  16. This wo'nt be much help to all you guys out there trying to get your licnce, but. Once you get it and you get out there on the tools you'll wonder what all that crap was about. The average Australian sparky will never have heard of pyro, they may have heard of armoured but will never have used it. Australia used porcelein rewirable fuses until the late eighties early nineties and generaly they are about 30 years behind the UK in the electrical industry. Also the quality of workmanship is pretty appalling.
  17. Ping Pong !!! Manchester ? Not surprised you feel depressed, who wouldn't. The golden rule NEVER EVER go back to where you came from. Try the South, more affluent, bit better weather and you probably won't get your car pinched every other week LOL.
  18. Hi It might be beneficial for you to look at a business visa - you have to have run a business in the UK and then run a business in Aus for 2-4 years - forgotton what its called but you will find it on the internet - Business owner visa - something like that ......... Good luck and keep jumping over those hurdles - you will eventually get there !
  19. Houses in Australia are flimsy is an understatement. They are also built with what most British people would consider to be outdated materials. "Smoke alarms save lives", as the advertising campaign constantly tells us. No smoke alarms gonna save you when the place takes 12 minutes to become a pile of ash on the ground

Too dull for me i'm afraid...very straight laced and uninteresting.I suppose I am more suited to the Irish zest for life I suppose....and the all important craic. The country itself is far from dull though....stunning! You've hit the nail square on the head. When you leave can we come with you ? PLEASE.
  21. To all the UK's finished, Australia is the best, although I've never set foot in the place brigade. Be careful what you wish for it may come true. Cost of just about everything here is through the roof. Electricity, fuel, food, I could go on but I'm over it. Don't forget we are ALL in the middle of a World recession and times are tough. Its not Cameron's fault or Obama's fault or any other leader. One thing though, a couple of years or so ago Rudd proudly stood up and told us he had saved Australia from recession. No you didn't, all you did was stave it off for a while. Its now coming home to roost.
