Ironic that Mrs T and I were driving through Clarkson yesterday afternoon and her comment to me was that she didn't know what all the fuss was about and that you can tell a lot about an area by how well the gardens were kept and they were all immaculate. There will be people in all areas where they do not look after their homes but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are the social housing group. Before we cam to Oz both of us had spent all of our live living on council estates, admittedly in a house we had bought and renovated for the last ten years but on a council estate nontheless, and we always felt the sense of community. To me, that is the only thing that is missing. These estates haven't been up long enough for the childhood friendships of people growing up and staying in an area to develop the the sense of community I just mentioned. I would imagine that to be the case in most of the newer areas of Perth and not just Clarkson. Mr Welsh Kiwi is my kid brother and they will be staying with us when they first arrive. The main thing I will say about Mindarie is that in my opinion the houses, both rental and sale are overpriced for what they are, especially the older houses, and we decided some time ago that we would not buy here. I like the suburb but to me it doesn't justify the rentals and sale values that are being asked for some of the houses.

In all honesty its a shame that anyone feels the need to slate any country in order to justify their own point of view. Naming typically obvious non-tourist areas is a transparent cheap shot with no real purpose other than to make a very poor point. So what if a few people on here would love to live in Oz and simply are not in a position to get there and the closest they get for now is bigging up the place? If it bothers you that much then just don't read their posts. Or does it make you feel a bigger man that you can try and belittle them on an internet forum? More of a reflection on you than them my friend. I love Britain and am proud to be British but fancied a change so here I am in Oz and not planning on returning to live in the foreseeable future. However, never say never but one thing I will guarantee is that just like I haven't slated the UK going one way I won't feel the need to slate Australia if I go the other just so that I can feel good about myself and my decisions. Britain is full of beautiful places but so is Australia. They may not look the same but that doesn't mean that they are any less pleasing to the eye. I make no apologies that I am enjoying the fact that we get to see the sun most days instead of grey skies and rain. Coming from the semi-official wettest city in Britain I feel that this is a reasonable view on my part. Others may disagree, so be it. I am unlikely to lose much sleep over it. You never know, after the next summer I may decide that I prefer the rain and cold, we will see.

Never fails to amaze me when those in Oz feel the need to slate the Uk and those in the UK need to slate Oz in order to justify their decision to an internet forum full of people they are never likely to meet. We have made our decisions for ourselves and our families so why on earth do people feel the need to be able to justify themselves to complete strangers. We've been in Oz for the last six months and I often browse the MBTTUK to remind myself of the situations that people can have for wanting to return to the UK. Those who have the courage to move to the other side of the world and give it a go have my respect but those who are willing to admit it just wasn't for them and head back the other way have much more. Those from both camps all have their reasons for their decisions so just be comfortable with your reasons and leave it at that. You don't have to justify to others why you have made them. Those who would wish to respond by saying that they are not justifying themselves please take five minutes, pop to the bathroom, look in the mirror and tell yourself that first. You may find that you end up more comfortable just admitting that it wasn't for you and these seven page threads about what and where is best will reduce and the job of this forum of helping those who need it going in either direction can be more readily achieved. I work in mining services. As an accountant I have never worked in a practice but have always been in industry. Due to my industry background in engineering and construction I was able to get a foot in the door in a mining company and haven't looked back.

We moved over in March and as an accountant I had to wait to get a role until I got here but started a contract within a couple of weeks and I am now in a permanent position with the same company six months later. More in relation to your situation, the wife of one of the lads I work with moved over two weeks ago and is also in HR. She is currently negotiating with two companies who both want her to start. One on a contract basis and one on a permanent basis. I have found that the jobs are out there if you are willing to be a bit flexible in whether you are willing to have a commute etc. I also did some groundwork with the agencies prior to moving over and I firmly believe it is what helped me to get that first role quite quickly. Is he a member of Linked In? A good number of the recruitment agencies advertise on there and so do the larger companies. If he is not a member then get him to join up, membership is free and he can follow organisations that he may be interested in working for and then will get notifications of jobs through that link. That will depend on the employer tbh. I have had a number of positions where references have been received post start.

If that is the case and you are already in role as long as you have not had Amy disciplinary or performance issues then they couldn't sack you to make it an issue.

Because a lot of the time the person has been employed prior to the references coming back. Quite often to job offer is made "subject to references"

Giving a bad reference isn't allowed mate. In my profession there was the case of an accountant who went down for defrauding the public sector body he worked for. When he was released and applied for another job in finance the new employer naturally contacted the old employer for a reference. The old employer mentioned what had happened and he was not given the new job. He successfuly sued the old employer even though the reference was factually correct. Sounds strange but is true. They are able to refuse to give a reference at all but not to give a bad one. They can also be sued by the new employer if the reference is subsequently found to be factually incorrect in favour of the new employee and it turns out that they do not have the skills and attributes stated in the reference. If I were employing a nurse I would take the word of the doctors over any administrative manager any day of the week. Hope it all works out mate Si

The reason I jumped on the negative was because there was a strong implication that because you have tattoo's and play/support football you must be a thug. I was responding to a number of previous comments and the only one which was aimed at you was the reference to moving so far away and then surrounding ourselves with Brits. You also now follow it up with a generalisation about those of us who live in the Northern Suburbs not being able to afford houses in the city. Insults of demographic groups seem be your thing. Yes, you were being self righteous. I have found a number of comments on here and other expat sites from people who think that they have to come to a new country and avoid British people. It seems to make them feel as if they are really taking the whole migration process to heart and living like the locals. This does not apply to all people who live in areas with few people from their home nation, just the ones who are self righteous about it. The only reason I commented on my qualifications was to make the point that you can't always look at someone and make an assumption about them. The assumption was that if I was in The Boat, with tattoos and a football shirt on I must be a thug, I was simply trying to point out that there is more to people than how you would see them. Seems as if you are the one who misses the point of peoples posts my friend. Personally I couldn't really care whether you think I am well educated or not but do me one favour and make sure that what you have written reads properly before you comment upon my level of education. Who said they want to be surrounded by Brits? Just because you have moved somewhere doesn't mean you have to forget where you are from. Just because I have Tattoo's doesnt make some sort of thug as previously implied. I also have a masters degree and three accountancy qualifications. I have moved here and will fully embrace this country while I am here but that doesn't mean I have to be self righteous and avoid people from the UK.

I have to admit that it is becoming really difficult to settle in the ghetto of Mindarie. I feel that we are going to have to go back to the UK due to the screaming gangs of kids wandering the streets mugging old people and looking for puppies to tie in a bag and throw in the sea. At 6' 2" and 16 stone even I am afraid to leave the house between the hours of midday and a minute past and there are times when we have to go without food for days as we are too afraid to venture out to the shops. Fortunately there are enough of us now to have formed a vigilante gang who patrol the streets during the hours of darkness. I am so glad that I did not move to an area where I would have to assimilate into the Australian culture and found an area full of people like me. Can you imagine having to live somewhere full of people who are different? The horror. The Boat is actually going to be renamed "The Pub Down The Road Where You Can Get A Decent Pint But Only Because The Bar Staff Are Like Us" and whinging Aussies will be sacked. There, that should keep the holier than thou miserable sods out of our lovely little suburb. Those who wish to enjoy and get on with life are obviously more than welcome. If you don't believe anything on the news then why on Earth do you watch it and then take the time to post it on an internet forum? The bottom line is that people have lost their lives. So what if they were trying to enter the company illegally? They are dead, children have been killed and people in the safety of their own homes sipping their tea in comfort think they have the right to criticise these unfortunate souls who simply want a better life for whatever reason. I personally would have done the same as them if my circumstances had warranted it and wanted to give my children an opportunity for a better life. Some of you could do with getting out of your ivory towers and taking a good look at yourselves. A number of these people will end up in a lifetime of something not much more than slavery in order to repay the fee for getting to whatever country the human trafficker has taken them to. Oh sorry, I saw some of it on the news so it can't be true can it?

You are unable to class Company B as self employment as it is a Ltd Company and even though a director you are still in effect an employee. You will have already used your personal allowance in your other jobs and so a dividend from the third company is probably the most tax efficient (I am an accountant but have tried to shy away from traditional issues such as tax so I would discuss this with a tax adviser to clarify anything I may say). One thing to note is that you say that you have a P60 for the first two jobs. Did you take a personal allowance for the first company you are a director at? If you did then you may have incorrectly taken it if the other employment you had already done so. In terms of NI you get an allowance for each position that you hold but in terms of PAYE it is a one off allowance to be allocated to the sum of your employment income. In terms of your tax return you normally get a section for each of your employments. This should mean that you have to enter an employment section for each of the three jobs and each one will ask whether you were a director. For the ones that you were you can then enter any earning against the relevant headings of salary or dividends. Its not often that I complete tax returns due to the nature of the accountancy work that I do but hopefully what I have written will at least give you an idea of the right questions to ask a tax adviser. There is also a company in South Wales called Mazuma Accounting (or something similar) who will sort all this for you for a monthly fee. It is owned by a qualified accountant and they send you a series of purple envelopes which you simply put your monthly paperwork in and they take care of the rest. Hello this is si's wife. I live in perth where you can go into any vodaphone shop or store, buy a sim for 2 dollars and top it up with 30 dollars. For your 30 dollars, they give you 450.00 dollars worth of credit to use, but it has to be used in 4 weeks. You also have 500 meg of internet also to use which i find lasts def for the 4 weeks and i always never use it all. Myself and my hubby both brought over new unlocked phones so we could insert these sims. They are also not contract sims so you are not obliged to keep them after the 4 weeks if you dont want too. We also bought one for our son, as we thought it helped him settle knowing he could contact his family and friends when he wanted to. I hope this is useful to you.

We have been here for 11 weeks today and so the feelings before we left are still pretty fresh. In the days leading up to flying to Perth I think we went through every emotion known to man and a few in addition. Part of the issue is that for those that migrate everything is built up towards the day you actually fly. All the farewells, selling the house, settling the bills etc and it all starts coming to a climax. Remember that the day of the flight is not the end of your old life but the beginning of your new one with some of your old life still attached. Skype etc is a massive help in ensuring that you keep in touch but both parties must make an effort. We have certainly found out who we were actually important to because they have taken the time to set up Skype accounts etc. Those that haven't bothered, oh well. Good luck Si
