I felt so sorry for the guy on yesterdays show. He was being completely blackmailed by his family. I agree the wife had brainwashed the kids about a place that they had never even visited! just dont understand it!! I was nearly in tears for him when he was crying!! it must be so horrific to feel like your whole family is moving on without you!!

I do agree. the fact that they looked like they were currently living in an ex council house (nothing wrong with that at all) and it was done up very nicely, but then complained about houses that were at least treble the size of what they currently have at home......well I dont think I can comment I understand that people want to move to something where they are happy.....but did they move into a house like that while starting out in the UK? prob not. I def agree that the british are all about keeping up with the Jones'.

I think Im going to have to watch this on the I Player I love watching these shows, and then coming on here to see what people say about them. The financial side of things they always show to me are rubbish. As in the UK, you live to your means......as long as you got the basics and got a roof over your head who cares. I think alot of Brits think that they will go to Aus and live in a mansion while working half the hours that you do here. All I seem to get off people is they cant wait to come visit, use our pool etc.....uhhhhh whos to say Im going to be able to afford a pool!! Its all the big Aussie dream isnt it!!

...I needed an 8 in all categories. Had a 9 in the speaking, 8.5 in the listening, 8 in the reading and a 7 in the written. Any tips for me??

great thanks for letting me know. no not alot!! I wonder if people coming into the UK have to jump through the same hoops as we do to get out of the bugger. I bet not!!

Im sure you will be fine.....but good luck, make sure you let us all know how you get off. Surely they will add a few points onto the score to compensate for nerves....

Ah thanks. I have been using the books sent by my migrant agent, and have also bought, but its the unknown isnt it. Regardless of how much you prep who knows what will happen on the day. My main concern at the mo is getting there, and not getting lost

A hostel is def a good idea. Wake up and YHA are good. But he would need to book it ASAP as they book up early on for the crimbo and new year period. There are LOADS of other hostels about, but I have stayed in both of these and they are really good. There are also loads of serviced appartments in Sydney. Mayb he could get a room share there. Both hostels have excellent people there who will help out, and notice boards that are advertising looking for jobs. Even if not staying in the hostels he could pop in for a look as they are generally located in the reception area. Good luck, keep us posted, hopefully he can find something out there, even if its not in his chosen field so that you can keep your dreams alive.

Hi I have travelled on a WHV and also went to Aus last yr and stayed in hostels both times. Always found them to be really good and secure. They have lockers in each room for you to keep your valuables. If your going to Sydney I would highly reccomend either Wake up, or the YHA. Stayed in YHA across NZ and Aus and you know the standard you are getting. My advice would be....book what you can now...espeically for your first few weeks. Sydney at christmas is mental! You will be extremely lucky to get anywhere by just turning up and booking. Good Luck and have a fab time!

I heared really bad things about China, so decided not to book with them. Booked with Cathays, were cheaper than Singapore and have to say they were very good.

I lived in Sydney on a WHV some time ago, went back on a holiday last yr, and have always found the public transport really reasonable. Buy a weekly/monthly pass and its even cheaper There are loads of serviced appartments available in the CBD, or close to the rocks where you could room share. Theres loads of stuff online about long term rentals to book before you go, and until you can find something you like. Wotif.com is also a really good website, and I found it invaluable. (same as our laterooms.)

OMG!!! This is my huge fear! I had heared that they hide in the sun visors....but OMG! thought it was just rumours!! I think I would die!! I think im going to need to have hypnotherapy before coming over!!
