  1. Maybe we were just sleeping! The climate has been changing since the last ice age - does that make me a denier or a realist?
  2. Australia expands visas for wealthy individuals. All you need is $15m and PR is yours after a year: [h=1]http://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-29611137[/h] No more sob stories about how difficult it is to get in or struggles to pass IELTS, please. Just cut back on the Christmas shopping this year and you'll be good to go (or come)
  3. I always thought Rob was a bit shady....

    Time to move back

Best of luck with whatever decision you make but just as an aside, most of Canada is English speaking - Quebec is the French speaking province.
  5. We have our citizenship ceremony this week and my MIL has already started the "so you'll be coming 'home' now" conversations so just get used to it and live your own lives/do what is right for you as a family unit.
  6. I reckon his Aston Martin is arriving next week and he needs the space in the garage
  7. Proof read any covering letters and your CV (often called a resume here) and know the difference between your and you're; company's and companies. Sorry, Cal, but I see so many applications that have simple errors like those and quite often have come from recruitment agencies.
  8. Test 9th July, ceremony on 1st October.
  9. New build and quality don't necessarily go together. I know someone who has just moved into their $2m+ house (build costs only, land on top of that) and it is so shonky they are thinking about selling it. No NHBC equivalent here.
  10. So Australian landlords don't like Pommies and the shops don't sell digestive biscuits. Maybe you should rethink your plans and stay at home before you become another of those "back in England" types that really grate on everyone's nerves. Giving everyone a fair go is part of the culture as is the fit in or feck off mentality.
  11. 457 is an employer sponsored, temporary visa that does not give you permanent residency I.e. No job, you go home. Maybe share some more info (new thread) around your partner, how long you have been together and you will get a better idea of options. Some really good migration agents are on here and will give some high level advice to get you thinking about your next steps.
  12. 30 years experience might put you in the "too old" category for applying for permanent residence (maybe you are only looking for 457 visa I.e. Employer sponsored) so check that out before you do anything else.
  13. If you have children in approved child care then you can claim 50% back (subject to criteria and annual limit) which is not means tested (child care rebate) A big plus and not available to temporary residents.
  14. Guy at the dancing school my daughter goes to owns gocampingwa in Balcatta. Not sure what they have on display but he seems like a decent guy and business is family run so may be more helpful than the big chains mentioned above. edit: the guy's daughter dances too, just in case that wasn't clear

    Travel Insurance

Hi Kate try ausure, they are brokers across Australia. They can access cover for all sorts of oddball things so worth a try. Being a broker, there is commission on all the business they place so won't be the cheapest but they can tap into underwriters that a Google search won't necessarily bring up. Good luck, I hope you get that cover and holiday.
  16. Just saving the best for last, maybe! I was another DIY submission. Only minor hiccup I had was discovering I had to do IELTS (English test) as my occupation was on what was called the Critical Skills List at the time later on in the process. An agent could probably have picked that up for me sooner but it didn't change the outcome and saved me a lot of money doing it myself.
  17. No. Class C (cars) is all that you can transfer, certainly in WA.

    BobJ Reminiscing...

Thanks for obliging, Bob. I'll never look at caulis in the same way again!

  22. Yep, many (not all) Australians will take a row-t (as in argument, not row as in boat) get from a to b and almost all connect to the internet through a row-ter. Maybe too many crap US shows on TV.
  23. Nope, defrost them in the microwave then straight into the fryer. Sometimes they even batter them first... who says the Scottish diet is unhealthy?
