  1. Hi all I have been storing a brand new UK car seat for yrs now in our garage... We bought it brand new to come here then 2 weeks after using it found out it wasnt legal in Australia. Is anyone in southside Brissie who is returning to the UK and needs one? Its one for after the new baby carrier upto 4 or maybe even older would have too look. Think it was from mothercare but can find out details. It cost £100? I think before we moved. anyway does anyone like it, hoping someone may have an aussie one to swop it for also after a chest freezer

    Money

Australia. We are now on one wage, eat organic, rent a huge 4 bed 3 bathroom home and have more money, than owning our own little 3 bed semi in the UK, 2 wages and eating from Asda and shopping at quality save! Hubby is in same job over here as was in the UK for the same company.
  3. Smears are every 2 yrs here and 3 yrs in the UK.
  4. Big hugs I know how frightening it is sending you healing thoughts and hope its sorted very quickly...
  5. We are not moving back however, we spent 2 christmas's in Australia and last Xmas we went back tot he Uk to spend it with family. WE LOVED IT I have missed a family xmas time, its so boring here and I miss my UK Xmas time. In a perfect world, I would go back every Xmas time to spend with family, then come back to Australia in January after new yr.
  6. As others have said it depends just like the UK. I dont like my kids wandering off and there are not many kids down our street who play out but some do. However, there is always lots on the park where I take my kids too. In the Uk there was no kids down our street playing out, down my sisters there are lots. Totally depends
  7. Is this for me? If so We LOVE Brisbane. As soon as we stepped of the plane it felt like home. I always felt something was missing in the UK, never wanted to grow old there or raise my kids there. Disliked it in fact, whilst I think parts are very beautiful, my life felt dull and lacking excitement and adventure. We lived for everyone else in our family and not for us. We dreamed and talked about moving away for many, many years... I have never felt like that here, although it is only 3 yrs But I feel like that missing piece has been found. It is not perfect here, we face the same crime, drugs, homeless, goverment issues, financial issues etc... property is unaffordable for lots, but for us, it is what we dreamed of, despite loosing our deposit in the housing drop in the UK and now we rent here. we just accepted it was a price to pay for a new future. It has been hard as we miss family, kids had to settle, money took a while to adjust to and sort out and we ran up the credit card!!! We have also had top deal with serious health issues here and in with family in the UK, including the loss of 3 family members over the last 18 mths which we missed... thats when you realise just how far away you really are.. We had great ideas to travel back yearly, but in reality, its just a dream as real life starts and money is the same as the UK. (you wouldnt travel to Aus on hols every year either, for most people) but life is settling. We love the lifestyle, the people, the place and the beaches It took a few months before I stopped stressing about redbacks and having nightmares about them.. I have only ever seen 1 in 3 yrs and 4 mths.. I have also not compared prices to the UK in the last 12 mths We had friends here already, who had been here for 20 yrs when we arrived, so that helped. I made friends thanks to online forums I was interested in and 3, whom I see IRL. I am hoping to meet more once my youngest starts school. We got a loan to visit the UK before my mum had a huge OP for Xmas time. It was great to see everyone but it reminded us how dull and grey everything was. We actually couldnt wait to get 'home' and we knew we had made the right choice. It was a huge risk for us as we had a son who had just started GCSE's and had firm friends but he adjusted and agrees now it was for the best. We had a job to go to, employer sponsership and all flights and visas paid, so we were VERY lucky. I wish you all the best starting on this journey, comming from Manchester, I am pretty sure you will prefer Australia LOL we love our life here and cannot wait to become citizens. I will be proud to have an Australian passport, as this is now my home. Natx

    Medicare rebate.

As far as I am aware, medicare does not cover anything under the Reciprocal Health Care Agreements, that is not essential. Private healthcare is advised as they do not cover it, if its not emergency. It covers ill health and injury whilst you are a temporary resident in Australia which is needed before you return home. Elective surgery is not a medical neccessity. Information is here http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/medicare/reciprocal-health-care-agreements/health-care-for-visitors-to-australia
  12. Yep, you can put it in at any time we did ours online ..
  13. As others have said, you get a repeat from the doctor on the script with how many. When you get your script from the pharmacy then you keep the form and take it back for each repeat. The medicine is priced individually and all different for different medication. You can get a cheaper brand for a lot of medicines, which they ask you when you put your script in.
  14. Yes I got mine for my two middle children. My eldest is in Uni now, so not for him.
  15. Life is too short, if you really want it, go for it I wish you the best of luck xx
  16. Lovely to read, glad your settling and love it xx
  17. No more than 3 x a week, usually twice. Washing too often removes the natural oils from the hair and isnt good for it
  18. Congratulations xxxx
  19. I think it depends on the school. Ours goes by DOB and my DS will not start until Jan next yr, he is 4.

  22. Hi someone posted above information.. here is the section again HIV and hepatitis are not generally considered to be threats to public health. If you are a temporary visa applicant assessed as having these conditions you may be found to be a threat to public health if you: intend to work as a doctor, dentist, nurse or paramedic whilst in Australia have a viral load of a certain level intend to undertake Exposure Prone Procedures as part of your duties. This refers to procedures where there is a risk of contact between the worker’s blood and the patients open tissue. In all other cases, if you have HIV or hepatitis you will only be assessed by a MOC to determine whether your condition would result in significant health care or community service costs and/or ‘prejudice the access’ of Australian citizens and permanent residents to services in short supply. I would guess as above you need the help of a specalist to determine if your application is likely to be sucessful or not and it will be refered to the health panel, so its up to them.
  23. my priority for all of us is our health. I wish for my family to be healthy firstly and most importantly, the rest will hopefully fall into place.
