  1. So my wife who was on a partner visa which is 2 yrs temp and 2 yrs pr. As she was due apply for citizenship 1st june does she apply or not? If under old rules she will have been here 4 yrs total in june but if going by new rules she will only have in that 4 yrs in july this year only have 3 yrs of pr to date. As new rules require 4 yrs of pr she now waits another year. But will they say if she calls if eligible or will they say apply next year and these rules have not passed yet. If they don't pass then she has a head start in the process or are they just going to say sorry you cant apply till next year? Has anyone who was due to apply since these new rules do so that where ok in old rules or but not in new rules. As wife has 4 weeks left before applying under old rules i wonder if she can or not.
  2. With these new rules i was wondering do they still have the calculator for citizenship where you entered your details and it would let you know when you could apply? Myself i prefered to call but wife wanted to check but i cant find it have then got rid of it?
  3. I contacted my mp regarding these citizenship changes and below is the reply. What does it mean? Probably nothing but was worth putting my point across. And as wife was eligible 1st june prior to these changes will it still be same or do you think they will say its now next year? Not bothered to call and ask yet. But curious anyone who was eligible since these changes if they have applied. At this stage, the laws have not passed Parliament, but we are currently looking closely at the proposed changes, as well as undergoing extensive community consultation as to how they will affect Permanent Residents and other visa holders in Australia. We will continue to advocate for the fairest approach for every Australian.
  4. I take this is for 457 visa holders? I wonder if things will be made more fair for those was partner visa who have been here 4 yrs but under that visa had two yrs temp and 2 yrs pr. Which would mean instead of being eligible in june it be next yr in july with new rules. Yes i know its just another yr but its the fact goal post was moved to pr holders who was about to apply which on that alone is so wrong.
  5. Yes maybe but nobody knows this yet anyway.
  6. Hopefully there are some changes or it does not pass parliament but im sure it will. But its going to affect most until it is im sure. I got my citizenship last year was going to leave it until wife was able to apply and do as family but glad i never as i would have had to wait a bit longer. I came over in pr so really would not add to much waiting as been here since 2013. I did add my daughter which im glad i did now and son born here so citizen aready, just the wife left. She came as a partner visa and was due to apply june 1st so not long away, but cause of these new rules has to wait an extra yr after july. Ok i know not that bad or long of wait but at first thought she had 2 yrs to wait but looking back as she applied back in 2012 got granted pr after 2 yrs of temp it was 2014 she has had her pr. But it crap if you ask me should not have to wait another year it really should not count on people aready on pr or so close to applying. I have wrote to a local mp and i have emailed a few places about this not that its going to make much difference but the way they have gone about this is an utter joke. Dont they have brains whoever makes these rules, they really need to take a look at them again and make some changes. Some people are worse off than what my wife is if it had stayed old rules maybe wife would have been citizen by end of year now its cant even apply till another yr more.
  7. I been in australia for almost 4 yrs and its been a roller coaster ride regarding work. In almost a yr for example i have done only 3 weeks work which is crazy. Before i moved to aus i was always in work and for 23 yrs. Ok things are not the best at the moment but i said to wife i just might need to get some work from uk for a bit and just travel back and forth each trip or leave i get. I would be doing either 2 weeks work,2 weeks off or it might be same but 3/3. I have my citizenship but wife still to apply for hers in june then we need to consider where we want to be. This job in uk is 12 months work or even much longer. My question is has anyone lived here but worked in uk? If so whats the ins and outs of doing this ie paying tax? Do you pay uk tax as well as aus tax. Is it worth working in uk while staying in oz? We are on family benefits a and b and its on my name would this need to be changed to wifes name if we still qualified. Being a uk citizen there is no restrictions right in working even though aus is home at present. Im trying to weigh up the pros and cons of working back there and what i should know. I may not even get the work but uk work has never really been and issue in past. But just wanted to know any helpful info you could pass on if i was offered this work. Thanks
  8. Does anyone have experience with landmark global world economy or dpd air classic? im looking to have a 12kg box sent from uk to Perth Australia and a site I have used many times over both in uk and Australia have come up with the two above a bit cheaper than your fed ex or ups etc. Cheap is not always the best but would be interested to know if anyone have used them and there experience. Im hearing landmark may use ups or big names but maybe not, dpd I can't remember much about them from uk. i have other options of parcelforce,FedEx,ups etc but trying to lower the price if I can but yet still get good service.
  9. Anyone on here who has applied for passport after citizenship did you use recent or older photos? I believe i needed for when applying for citizenship or might have been something else cant remember. Anyway i have only used like one photo from the bunch of 6 and same with daughter. So 5 left of each. It says to use within 6 months are they kiding me? Im sure the post office regardless in the world has been dated is this just to try and grab more money off you? My daughters ones expired about month ago and mine maybe two months ago it has date of when taken and when expires. It says not to be used for id purposes really? The dates are not stamped on photos so its not as if they know just at the side of bunch of 6. So gets cut off anyway. I really dont fancy spending out on two sets of photos when clearly i have already. Are they to know when it was taken?
  10. I bet thats not an easy task and very little people cancel
  11. Tell me about it was not expecting 31st October for test/appointment but not much I can do asked if there was any sooner answer was no.
  12. I applied 27th and questioned why no test date yet and today after calling them given 31st October sucks as hoped it be much sooner and possibly a date for citizenship this year my councils last one is 1st nov.
  13. So what did you ask or say yo get different date? i applied online 27th June not too long after you got emailed an appointment/test had been made and would be emailed shortly. never heard anything called a few weeks back did not really get anywhere and called today again they said application was sent to Melbourne and should have been wa??? i questioned the letter by email about test I got on 1st July, lady called someone up and said earliest they have for me is 31st October. i had hoped to at least get ceremony/citizenship this year but with that date no chance of that would be interested to know how you get it sooner or I'm sure there are loads trying the same thing. what brings up dates sooner people not being able yo go? Surely most go on the dates given?
  14. When finally 3 hrs plus waiting for call back talked to a lady who was very helpful more helpful than i have had in past. I explained why i not got a date for test etc when i got a letter saying it had been made. She looked up and noticed this and said she find out and put me on hold and called up another department. For some reason they said my application ended up in Melbourne if reasons behind it not sure as she does not know or they will never tell us why when it should have been for wa. Not sure if this delayed my test date or has made any difference but was hoping cause of getting such letter on the 1st july and not hearing anything date of test btought forward. Guy she talked to said he could book me in she said ok if she did it so she arranged it there and then. 31st oct which i was a bit unhappy with so i can count myself out of citizenship this year as last date at my council is i think start of nov gutted. The other test date she had was later again. But least it official and not wondering when or why not got a date. But that will be 4 months of a wait for test appointment i suppose the cermonony will be just as long. Surely they can do these quicker or add extra dates for cermony as one date in nov and none dec dont understand that.
  15. Calling them up again waiting for call back 2 hr 25 mins still waiting for call? Last time i called did not get call back option and waited 1hr 45 mins and wasted so much credit. When they call you back they dont try again so sitting about here wondering am i going to be called back. If they do probably just say some crap to to get me off there back. But i want to know why sent a later 1st july to say appointment is made and time and date be sent shortly when its not. Doing my head in you would think compared to visas etc it be quicker etc to get these done.
  16. Im talking about test/appointment I get a letter by email on 1st July saying appointment has been made and will be emailed shortly of date and time 3 weeks on I'm still waiting they been as well if they never sent such letter by email. but yet as said someone else I read on here just applied the other week and has test date already something ain't right?
  17. No just asked it they had a date as got a letter saying so on 1st july and they would know that.
  18. I just wonder though if this is normal they sent this to you or did but then maybe noticed its busy and cant give date yet. Last time i called the guy who answered phone told me to hold and came back and said no appointment made yet this was a couple of weeks after getting the email
  19. Anyone ever had a letter sent by email to say appointment had been made and to say another email be sent soon with time and date? Is this some random email they send out, as I called them a few weeks after I got this thinking maybe my email got lost or they forgot to send to be told it's not even booked lol. why send it? and apart from the remember and take your original docs etc it said send pcc within 28 days of getting the letter which I did. i got this on the 1st July and I'm hearing there is like 4. Months wait in Perth for test/appointment but why would they sent it so early and request the pcc. Not only that I noticed someone on here just applied last week or so and already have appointment date? i applied on 27th June, got notification same day and the letter which was in my junk emails to say appointment was made but yet I'm still waiting. i can understand if there is a bit of a wait but telling you something by letter and nothing done seems weird. keep checking my account and online each day but starting to thing what's the point. would have been nice to have got in on the last few dates of this year for ceremony but really can't see this happening.
  20. How do these guys work i applied 28th june got email letter saying an appointment has been made and will be emailed shorty this was on 1st july. I had the email in my junk emails and thought maybe they have lost other but said not even booked yet?? Why send such letter? And how come im still waiting when your saying you have your test date already does not make sense. Im in perth also. Im reading people can email immi where? As when you call can be on phone for an 1hr and half plus at times. I asked if any issues with application how does one know if everything is ok or its been looked at??
  21. In regards to the metal fabricator how recent have you done this and what was your fees, looking at there site its has various fees and i dont know what they all mean.i also was wondering if this all can be done from perth as im sure it was mentioned can be done online as well as a venue,i noticed in my older emails when i first looked into it that there was a place not far from me but looks like they are moving to city,i take if they want to assess you then this can be done at there place? Im not working so cant be done at place of work. Also anyone thats done this as metal fabricator please pm me just so i have a better idea whats needed, what you did and anything else thats good to know,i do have the advantage i have references from many of my employers when i did my own visa some years and others stuff they ask for as well as my pipefitting certs etc. It might be something i need have to help with getting jobs, but i have been putting this off for a while now and thing it maybe best to have it.
  22. Im the same been thinking of this from day one of arriving in australia,im a pipefitter with 21yrs expereince both onshore and offshore, trained with a well known uk company as well as ecitb for a number of years have all the certs and yes even certs from way back when yts was on the go for basic welding. I am far from a welder but have done some over them years but not a lot and not much tacking up jobs due to the locations of work i been on,I have a nvq level 2 as well as a craft cert, ace card and many papers from ex employer from where i worked to prove i was working on them jobs. I am still finding the jobs but im probably being knocked back on more, some employers are telling me its a load of crap not needed and some employers say no oz qualification no job. Anyone did it lately what was total cost and what was involved,as said im a pipefitter with some welding expereince but not much and very basic tacking experience, but other experience in other roles other trades do in uk due to where my job loctaions where and being flexible which will mean nothing towards metal fabricator. Be good to get full details by pm of what you had to do,what you got asked, pretty much all involved as i may still go ahead and get this or carry on without or may end up moving back to uk where this be a waste of time.
  23. thats a shame as would have been a nice motor to have taken over and would have been a swap for my astra, annoying that 12 month rule,i dont live with parent have m own place and licence is on my own address,i dont think my parents have owned it for 12 months yet, they got it in sept 12
  24. I got offered my parents 58 plate honda cr v es ivtec motor which cost them just over £10,000 not too long ago,as a going away gift,i can give them my astra sxi astra which they might keep or trade it in for something else. I was like no i cant, very nice of you but they keep going on about it to me,they said it will help you when you get over there and save you having to buy another car etc etc. Now that im going with the idea my bubble maybe already burst. As i dont know own the motor im sure i read you need to have been the owner of the motor for over 12 months which im clearly not.Ok my father has the same name would they know? So on that rule alone its maybe not possible? If i am allowed then can someone work out or give me a break down on what costs i would need to pay to have it shipped.and i mean all fees that would need to be paid out to get this on the road there. What are the postives of doing this and the negs. As they will be giving me this car for a swap with mine,i wondered what the costs would involve to import there motor vs keeping that money to import and selling my astra 2006 value approx £3500-£4000 approx and using that to buy in oz. I have read a few posts and seems a bit much to take in all the costs,is there a calculator to work out all the charges would be,or is someone on here have the knowledge or are in this business know more. Im just trying to figure out what this could cost me to take to oz,on what i can see approx the same motor i think is approx $22,000 approx. But my first problem is the not having the 12 months ownership Would be greatfull of any advise
