1. I agree And would also add the bankers many who have committed accounting fraud / Libor fraud only a fine ! What no prison sentence. I bet if you or I committed fraud we would not get away with a fine.
 2. I could not obtain references from when I worked at the NCB in the 1980’s lot of the people I worked with are no longer around to provide references. Fortunately I still had my wage slips from when I left school. I wrote a very detailed statuary declaration about five A4 pages of info about my apprenticeship training. It was enough for me to get my PR visa. lived in Melbourne Australia 2007-2010:cool:
 3. The only effective way to regulate the banking system. Was the GLASS STEAGAL ACT this protected the worlds economic system from the reckless Behaviour of the bankers for over half a century. Until politicians ignored the painfully learned lessons of the 1930's it was repealed. When the Glass Steagall act was repealed in 1999 a least one senator warned there would be a Financial crisis within 10 years. But they were out voted and the act was repealed. We need a Glass Steagal Act now
 4. Bump It is possible to make top up National Insurance payments for missing years whilst Living and working in Australia. But there are certain limitations.
 5. Thanks for the information. Can you confirm the below information is correct ? For those who return to the U.K after more than two years in Australia If you have been out of the U.K for more than two years You will not have any class one Employer National Insurance contributions to your name. So you will not be entitled to contribution based Job seeks allowance.
 6. Warmer weather most of the year the temp was a perfect 18-28 deg. but i was in Melbourne in the very dry years. The Dandenong ranges. Melbourne, Excellent coffee Queensland, Rain forest, beaches, If things had worked out work wise I probably would have stayed in Melbourne Australia. Far better than Perth in my opinion. 7. A Land Value tax system would be far easier to administrate and more difficult to avoid. Canberra Australia attempted a Land value tax system in 1903.

 11. spot on at least some one on PIO lives in the real world. what i noticed about housing cost in 2007 house prices doubled between 2003 when my first visa application failed and 2007 when i finally got my PR visa. http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/renting-real-estate/25067-house-land-purchase-costs.html no amount of living on beens walking 20k to work living in tent can make up for that level of increase in house prices.
 12. The prices for iron ore and coal have halfed. 40% of employed people in Australia are casuals. were did you get this figure from ?

 15. If you arrive later than 10.30 you may end up having to use the Car park on the right that you have to pay. When i used it was $2 per day, probably gone up by now.

Hi Ally

In the U.K I have always been able to get job in my trade but in Australia it has been incredibly difficult.

Unfortunately the electronic / electrical engineering industry is very insular in Australia

So unless you are 100% exactly what the company wants you will find it very hard going.

The best Job agency I have found so far is

Engineering Jobs, Labour Hire, Technical Recruiters, Drafting Recruitment

I have not been able to get a permanent job in my trade in fact it has been an uphill struggle to get an even a temp casual job.

I am currently training for a job in IT.
