Yes we did, nearly 10 years ago thou, we had a 40 foot container, they built a frame around the car (at a cost of a few hundred pounds - from memory) and loaded boxes on top. At the time it was much cheaper than sending it on its own.

I have a friend with the same condition, and when they came to visit nearly 8 years ago, they were very surprised as they found it much easier, eating out and shopping than in the UK! They were surprised about how big the section was in our supermarkets and the coffee shops etc always have a selection of gluten free cakes etc, not just one, like she found back home.

Looks like it has changed then since we shipped, as ours was in a container with the rest of our possessions.

When we shipped a car (nearly 10 years ago) you were not allowed to put anything extra in it. We were advised that you were allowed to leave the items that you normally had in the car in there e.g. in our case CD's, sunglasses, log book etc. which we left in the glove box. When the car arrived these items had been put in a small box and arrived separately. So unless things have changed I think you will find the answer is no. Be prepared for extra fees when the van arrives e.g. for it to be steam cleaned regardless on how clean it is when leaving the UK.

Our first christmas here, our next-door neighbour had a real christmas tree (it was quite pathetic compared to what we were used to). She regularly watered it, trying to prevent it dropping, when she eventually moved it outside after xmas, mozzies had hatched out in the trunk of the tree and her house was covered in them!! They all got bitten for weeks :arghh:

Megan, why don't you enrol in school for the last couple of weeks, you would then have some friends to spend time with over the holiday, it's not too late! I work in a school and last week we had several new students from overseas and Australia enrolling for that reason, just a thought. Good luck x

Sorry but I think you will find that she will need to do A levels. I have a friend who came here with her daughter having done AS levels, which got her into TAFE, she needed to do a TAFE course first to get her into Uni. Both my sons got into Uni, but were much younger when we got here. I know here in QLD you can do a course at TAFE which will give you equivalent to year 12 which may be an option (takes 6 months or a year dependant). Some Uni's also do pathway courses, at the local Uni here, you have to do 4 courses over the year, each course takes a semester, so it can be done over 6 or 12 months. If you do this. our local Uni here recommends that you check if you want to go to a different Uni they accept the pathway course that you have taken. That way you enter on your ranking rather than your OP which you get from school. Hope this makes sense and helps? Good luck. I too had cold feet when waiting for our visa. In those days, the visa acceptance letter came by post. I said to my husband, if the day the visa arrives it is raining, we will go and if the sun is shining we will stay. Well it was raining so hard that day that the envelope was soggy, but in the afternoon the sun came out... We left the UK in May 2004 and are still here in Oz. Not that this helps you much, but just wanted to say your feeling are perfectly normal. Good Luck!

Have a look in Big W, we bought two wicker type sofas with cushions and footstool 3 years ago, for about $500 and they are still great.

I think you will find the restrictions apply to young drivers between the ages of 17 - 24, so you will be fine

There is a reciprocal arrangement between the two countries, so they will be covered. I think you may find that you would not be covered while on the journey thou, e.g. if one of you was really ill during the flight. (The reason I am saying this is I used to be cabin crew, and have the odd occasion where passengers have become unwell during the flight, and we have had to off load them during a transit stop on medical advice). Very unlikely to happen, but worth knowing if you want to cover all eventualities. Hope you have a fantastic trip! :biggrin:

We asked this question to our builders before we moved here, and they didn't know what a water softener was...lol. So we didn't bring ours. Our kettle has never had any scale it looks exactly like the day we bought it, haven't had to descale the iron either. We are on the sunshine coast about an hours drive from Brisbane. Both my sons have passed their tests since we arrived. Before you can drive even as a learner you have to pass the theory test.
