  1. I totally agree with Nigel Waring in regards to health cover. When I came there was no medicare so we all had to have health cover. It was very cheap then as everyone except pensioners and unemployed had to have it. I kept my cover going after Gough stuffed everything up and I am so glad I did. I get treated when I need it and don't have to wait for ever. I have been healthy all my life, until recently, but having had 4 sons, we've had numerous broken bones, tonsillectomies, dentists visits etc. Over all I think we've had more paid for than we paid in.
  2. I have found this winter to be the coldest that I have experienced in 50 years in Australia - but could be because I'm just getting old!
  3. You would be hard pressed to find a bad school in the Hills District so I wouldn't worry about schools.
  4. Many moons ago we put an ordinary 3 bedroom house on land that we had purchased in the Hills District. Total cost $17,600. We quickly added a decent sized, concrete, pool for $3250 and 20 years ago I added an extension which consisted a large family room, bedroom and ensuite at a cost of $50,000. Total cost to me,$70.850. If I sold it tomorrow I would get well over $1m. This is nonsense. People are buying at these prices every week. This is ludicrous. What hope, have most young couples, of ever affording a home?
  5. You could get a special needs qualification and a few years teaching in the UK under your belt.
  6. You are quite right MR except that in NSW the first year is Kindergarten then years 1 to 12, so they spend 13 years at school and are 17 or 18, usually, when they finish.
  7. Just did a check. James Ruse is just north of the Parramatta boundary and comes under The Hills Council. The adjoining suburb is North Rocks.
  8. It comes under Met West area of Dept of Ed and Training. Yes it is in Carlingford. Not sure if it is in the Parramatta Council area part of Carlingford or not. Definitely Met West. Worked for that Dept for 43 years. Pupils come mainly from the Hills,Carlingford, Epping Eastwood etc. Have to be VERY intelligent to get a place there.
  9. Believe me it is quite normal. Have you experienced the M1/F3 or the trains, in morning and evening peak hours? I've lived here for many years and would say that the number of commuters from the CC has risen steadily over the last 30 years.
  10. Not surprised that so many travel down from the CC for work. Until recently there was no work on the CC and even now the options for work are limited.
  11. James Ruse, which has been the top school in the state since the mid 1990s, is a high school situated in western Sydney.

    Gout tips please

I find Colgout really good. I get it on prescription. Don't know if you can get it without. If you goggle you will find lots of information on how to reduce uric acid.
  13. Stacey I don't get hurt when I read the comments I get bloody angry and really want to lash out at the ignorant people making them. However, that's pretty useless, unless you can face them. So, bad english grammar but it is my second language, i think, here's tae us wha's like us damn few an they're aw deid.
  14. It is a pity, because it has nothing to do with Scots v English. It is simply that the Scots want to be responsible for their own destiny. The way the Union was formed England was always going to decide what was to happen. Considering the difference in culture it's surprising the Union has lasted this long. Please people, just let things evolve. There is no need for animosity.
  15. I too have questioned the gumption and nerve, but hope they have it now, but disagree that they couldn't afford to. There have been many times over the years when the will was there but there was no real leadership. The SNP were founded in 1934 and have finally become the strong, for want of a better word, rallying point for the aspirations of the people. You cannot understand how much I want them to succeed.
  16. ??? I don't have to justify myself as I know I'm right. I just hoped to stop your stupid, uninformed posts. As that seems impossible I will ignore them from this point on.
  17. Come on Paul, this isn't even funny. I thought better of you.
  18. I do not care about Henry VIII; he has nothing to do with Scotland. Again you show your ignorance. You may think that Scotland would be the loser but many disagree. I could give many reasons why but honestly can't be a'sed debating with someone with so little knowledge.
  19. I would probably be banned if I expressed what I truly think of your post. So suffice to say,as I have said before, you have no idea what you are posting about. Please do not make anymore posts which show your ignorance of the topic being discussed.
  20. Gee, all this derision of history. I find it odd that people have no wish to understand why things are as they are today. I would say that the Scots people are trying to remedy a massive mistake that was made in the passed by demanding, at the very least, much greater autonomy. Many expat Scots are supporting the push towards independence. It is not my fault if you cannot understand that or the fact that there is and always will be more than one political party in Scotland.
  21. Sorry Paul, but there is no way that I will let my history go. I'm sure you wouldn't let yours go. I want the best for Scotland. If you cannot accept that without malice so be it. I don't feel any animosity towards you. I simple agree to differ. My previous post was explaining the history to MaryRose. I should have quoted.
  22. I don't know where you get the belief that myself or the Scots in general hold a grudge. We don't! We simply have had enough of being governed from Westminster. If you read my posts as well as others and if you have heard Nicola Sturgeon speak the people of England have been mentioned. However, the Scots can't change your situation.the English people have to get off their behinds and do something about it.
  23. Union of the crowns 1603, Act of Union of the Parliaments 1707. This was only agreed to by the 3 Estates, which was the Scots parliament at the time, as I have already said. These Estates were the nobles, the church clergy and wealthy merchants. There was not universal suffrage in Scotland in 1707. The parliament consisted only of these people who had been elected by their peers. The clergy were the most corrupt closely followed by the others. I know my Scots history pretty well.
  24. It is about much more than pride. It's about people being tired of being ignored and lied to and wanting to make their own decisions for themselves and their country. The Union's inception had nothing to do with religion. It came about through dirty tricks and bribery. The Scots people did not have a say. The Three Estates agreed to it because of their greed. The people rioted when the decision was made.
