  1. If you would like an initial freebie chat please feel able to ping a private message or (preferably) an email to me - my bdh Tax email address is below. Best regards.
  2. Thanks Steve. I'll be disappointed if the SIV stream survives. Surely there should be a pathway for business owners, who by their nature are risk takers and entrepreneurs? IMHO introducing the SIV stream was the point at which the business migration program started to lose its way. Best regards.
  3. I have to say this is not a particularly well thought through exercise. We have had emails for clients sent to incorrect email addresses - I am aware of at least one in our portfolio where the email was sent to a previously appointed advisor. Indeed, the inevitable question that arises from these emails is what information does the Department have on file that might need updating? Not the best use of the Department's time, in my opinion. Best regards.
  4. The Australian Immigration Minister has confirmed the number of parent visas that can be granted for the program year ending on 30 June 2023. https://www.gm-parent-visas.com/immigration-minister-confirms-number-of-parent-visas-for-the-2022-23-program-year/ Best regards.
  5. https://www.gm-parent-visas.com/parent-visas-granted-to-date-in-program-year-2022-23-ending-on-30-june-2023/ Details of the number of parent visas granted from 1 July 2022 to the end of April 2023 ... Best regards.
  6. Remember that what is a deductible cost in Australia may not be deductible in the UK. 2 quick examples: 1. Mortgage interest - allowed for as a tax credit at the basic rate only in the UK. 2. Depreciation and the capital works deduction - available in Australia, likely not in the UK. Best regards.
  7. I'd be checking that 6 year exemption if you sell an Aus main residence when not tax resident in Australia ... Best regards.
  8. Can I suggest that you might revert to the person that gave you the advice to flesh out this issue for you? Best regards.
  9. Following yesterday's Federal Budget in Australia there is no change to the number of parent visas available in the program year ending on 30 June 2024. https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/.../migration-program... Best regards.
  10. https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/what-we-do/migration-program-planning-levels Agreed. Best regards.
  11. See my bdhtax.com email address below. Best regards.
  12. You are very welcome to contact me if you are interested in knowing our fee for tax guidance/a written tax opinion. In the meantime ... note that you can be tax resident in the UK and in Australia under the domestic tax legislation in each country. Best regards.
  13. Suggest you might have a look at the UK's Statutory Residency Test ... Best regards.
  14. Yes, you have tax residency questions arising from what you are considering. Exercise caution - don't say you weren't warned! Best regards.
  15. Hi Gary. You are opening up a more complex tax residency situation, which may require consideration of the Tax Treaty as well as domestic legislation. Will your employer pay for advise in this regard? If you need help with this issue feel able to ping a private message to me. Best regards.
  16. I'd not assume the various arms of Government are that joined up, Linda! Best regards.
  17. I think that if you read the RHCA there is a question over whether Medicare should be made available to those who've been in Australia on BVs after a few years. I have the text of the RHCA and a subsequent exchange of letters between the UK and Aus Governments - the requirement to access Medicare in Australia is for the individual to be “ … lawfully present but not ordinarily resident in Australia.” If one is in Australia on a BV for many years the question inevitably arises (or perhaps should arise) as to whether one is now ordinarily resident in Australia and hence not entitled under the RHCA. Best regards.
  18. In the context of the student visas I think you might be referencing the cap and cease provisions: https://migrationalliance.com.au/immigration-daily-news/entry/2015-09-cap-and-cease.html My belief is that the Government doesn't have the numbers in the Senate to push through such a change on parent visa applicants - at least not those who are on BVs onshore. Plus there'd be uproar in the media. Not politically do-able, IMHO. Best regards.
  19. As Barry Humphries would have said - you're approaching 60, but from the wrong direction ... ! Have a great day!
  20. I recommend you have a chat with a financial planner with experience (and regulatory approval) in the UK. Start with Andy at Vista. Consider also my colleagues at bdhSterling who are in the UK as well as in Australia: https://bdhsterling.com/who-we-help/moving-between-the-uk-and-australia/ Good luck!
  21. Yes, you're right - I added in the total column so double counted: should be 8,895. Good spot! Thanks Linda! Best regards.
  22. PS. One day Governments will learn not to flag in advance changes affecting people adversely. This has been going on for so long. I remember mortgage interest relief at source (MIRAS) being abolished in the UK, but not immediately - it led to a surge in house buying. Hey ho.
  23. Yes, I'm expecting a surge in new parent visa applications. This is what happened a few years ago when a VAC increase was the concern of the day - look at the number of applications in May 2017 and June 2017: 17,790 CP visa applications in those two months alone. Onwards!
