    Intro 

    Whittlesea is located in Melbourne’s Outer Metropolitan region.  It is approximately 40 km North-East from Melbourne’s CBD. The City of Whittlesea is Whittlesea’s local municipality. Post code is 3757. This suburb is considered a safe and sound area by local residents. After 7-8pm it gets very quiet. The suburb isn’t very diverse but it’s a good mixture of farmers and suburban people

    Demographics

    According to the 2016 census, the population of Whittlesea was at 5,611 peopleAbout 21.2% of people are older couples and families, 18.9% are established couples and families and 16.6% are maturing couples and families. Median household income for Whittlesea residents is $1212 per week and median age of people is 37.

    Schools

    There are about 3 schools and one secondary college in the suburb of Whittlesea which are:

    Whittlesea Primary School- The mission statement of this school is, “to nurture every child to be the best that they can be.” The school also has specialised programs which include music, art, Chinese, physical education. 

    Whittlesea Secondary College- The school was known as Whittlesea Technical High School before but has changed its name to Whittlesea Secondary College. This college was established in 1877.  Following are the important school values of this school; Sense of community, life-long learning, respect, achievement, health, commitment and cooperation.

    St Marys Catholic Primary School- This School has been in function since 1983. It is known for upbringing the community spirit and is committed to represent itself in community events such as Anzac day, Carols, and Whittlesea shows. 

    Diamond Valley Special Developmental School, Whittlesea CampusThe school has been providing a safe learning environment/culture for children with special needs from the past 25 years. Following is the schools mission statement, Confidently promoting a vibrant learning community, delivering an inclusive and supportive educational experience”.

    Transport

    Usually everyone has their own vehicles to get to and from places. Public transport isn’t very convenient. There are limited buses which leave about every 45 minutes.

    Health

    If you are after a GP or nurse in Whittlesea you can head over to Whittlesea Medical Clinic. This clinic has been functioning for over 40 years and is located at 77 Church Street. They provide quality care for the local community. The clinic is present at a convenient location with shops and other amenities nearby. Services at this centre include men’s health, women’s health, immunisation services, pathology, and minor procedures.  It is also important to note that this is a private billing practice. You would have to pay for the consultation service at the counter and once that is complete, on the spot Medicare refund will be made into your nominated EFTPOS account. 

    Another clinic available in Whittlesea is Whittlesea Family Medical Centre located at Macmeikan StServices at this practice include, General HealthImmunisations, On-site Cardiology Chronic Disease mgt.Sexual Health, travel vaccinations, Pathology, Diabetes Educator, Dietician, etc.. Most of the appointments can be bulk-billed at this centre. 

    There are also dental practices in Whittlesea which include Whittlesea Family Dental and Dentists of Plenty Valley.

    Shopping

    As this is a small town, there aren’t any large shopping malls. However, there’s a strip of shops which have all the basic essentials covered. 

    There are about two chemists in Whittlesea which are Pharmasave Pharmacy Whittlesea and Amcal both located on Church Street. 

    If you are a looking for a supermarket, Local IGA, Champion's IGA Whittlesea is located on Church Street. 

    There are a couple of dine in and takeaway shops where you can get fish n chips, Chinese, pizza, pasta, etc. There are also a few bakeries like Whittlesea Bakehouse and Bakers Delight. 

    Real Estate 

    Whittlesea has some affordable and nice homes. If you are looking to buy a house, the median of buying a house in Whittlesea for a 3 bedroom house would be 465,000 and for 4 bedroom house would be $549,000. Median Rent would be $375 per week. The market in Whittlesea is considered to be a high demand market.
