    The City of Moorabool is located in Melbourne Victoria and covers approximately 2,110square kilometres of areaIt is about 80 km west from Melbourne’s CBD. 

    The council comprises of the following four wards; Central Moorabool, East Moorabool, West Moorabool and Woodlands. The City of Moorabool consists of 7 councillors.

    Local Government areas around the City of Moorabool are Hepburn, Melton, Macedon Ranges, Ballarat, Golden Plains, Wyndham and Greater Geelong.

    The land area of Moorabool is mainly rural which consists of forests and waterways. The land is mostly used for mining, farming, timber production, etc.

    History

    The name “Moorabool” was named after the Moorabool River. The Moorabool River is a major geographical landmark of this areaIt is said that the name means “haunt or cry of a curlew” in Aboriginal language.

    The City of Moorabool was established in 1994 by the union of previous shires of Bacchus Marsh, Ballan, (parts of) Bungaree and Werribee City.

    According to the 2016 Census, the population of The City of Moorabool was at 31,818. 50.5% make up of female population and 49.5% of male population. 1.2% of the population comprised of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The median age as at the census was 40.

    Common descents in this city included the following figures- 28.7% Australian, 28.3% English, 10.4% Irish, 8.1% Scottish and 3.2% German. 

    Major religions in this city reported; No Religion, Catholic, Anglican and Uniting Church- where Christianity was the largest group among these.

    The top languages spoken were English, Italian, Maltese, Punjabi, German and Greek.

    The people employed in this area were involved in professions such as Professionals, Clerics, Administrative Workers, Managers, Technicians, Trade Workers, Community Workers and Personal Service Workers.

    The Shire of Moorabool is part of Central Highlands Library Group. Different events are hosted in the libraries such as Movie Events, BacchChat, Pre-school Storytime, Author Talk, etc. 

    The libraries in Moorabool are the Lerderderg Library located in Bacchus Marsh and Ballan Library located in BallanThere is also a Regional Mobile Library Service. 

    Transport 

    The City of Moorabool is functioned by Western Freeway, Midland Highway and railway lines of Melbourne-Ballarat. 

    For using public trains, the VLine train - Ballan Railway station and - VLine train - Bacchus Marsh railway is available.

    There are several routes for Metropolitan and Regional Buses. VLine Coach Bacchus Marshis also available.

    Taxi services are also available.
