pablo Posted December 21, 2010 Share Posted December 21, 2010 Just thought it might be handy if people recommended places where they live for anyone moving or visiting there,dont know how much interest there'l be because i know a lot in oz tend to socialise at home(according to pio anyway),but i'd be interested anyway,i prefer the pub to peoples houses tbh,PROPER pubs,with bands/the craic pls:wubclub: I would particularly be interested in places in south australia meself:jiggy:. I can't really recommend anywhere in my neck of the woods, as one I don't drink anymore, and to tell you the truth most of the traditional pubs have been put out of bloody business and Wetherspoons seem to proliferate. But I hope I can say some good places in Australia. Perth, The Dickens. As the name suggests mate, traditional and friendly. Gets bloody busy though as in middle of Perth City, but some traditional beers and food, and they used to have 'wenches' serve the food,:wink:. Cairns, Cock and Bull, Grove Street. Good beer, great music and nice atmosphere. Broome, Matso's Brewery. Overlooking the ocean, again great food and a really oldy worldy feel about the place. Traditional ales and beers, and great food. Art gallery as well showing some great pictures of Broome and surrounds. Sydney, The Lord Nelson, The Rocks. Brilliant pub, has an 'English' feel. Home brewed beers and ales. Small and quaint, and some great food. Be warned though. The beer is bloomin strong, it is NOT your normal everyday beer. It is the ONLY time when I did drink that I can't remember a single THING about the day/night before. Darwin. There used to be a great bar called 'Darwiners', this was many years ago mate, no idea if it is still there though. Live bands, good food and beer, and the overlook over the harbour was to die for. I remember once sitting there and seeing two crocs lazily swimming by.:wideeyed: There are loads I could recommend mate, way too many to mention, but these are my favourite. Ying Chow, Gouger St - brilliant chinese restaurant - bring a group, order loads and share! The Archer, O'Connell St (North Adelaide) - best beers, excellent cocktails upstairs The Daniel O'Connell, Tynte St (North Adelaide) - best thursday night pub quiz, proper pints of guinness! Griffin's Head, Grenfell St - excellent pub lunch Coopers Alehouse @ The Earl, Pulteney Street - the BIGGEST parmi u will ever see and attempt to conqueor Botanic Bar, North Terrace - fancy cocktail kinda place, best g+t... PJ O'Briens, East Terrace - good ol' irish bar, mind out for the sticky floors! Belgian Beer Cafe, Ebenezer Place - does exactly what it says on the tin - quite pricey and always busy so go early and leave before you empty your wallet! Exeter, Rundle St - good for after work drinks, good music! Goodlife Organic Pizza, Glenelg - AMAZING! god there's so many, as my brain tricks away i might remember a few more, i knows there a few good ones for live music but their names escape me right now! Caz ADDED: Russel's, Willunga - the most amazing pizzas, book WELL in advance and bring an esky with your favourite tipple, enjoy the pizza in the big ol' shed or on a blanket in the garden or in the house if you're very lucky! World's End can get a bit "Playful" with all those hard drinking young un's The Victory Hotel - on the hill above Sellicks on Main South Rd. Front bar is great with decent bar food.
