hi there everyone,

have to admit feeling a bit guilty havent been on here in ages...

Been living it up all over oz for 2 yrs now back in perth where we started , staying couple more years get some cash togetha and the who knows.

the problem is I have just been diagnosed with Leukemia. Im not even sure which sort as i have a specialist appointment this thurs.

I had bloods done at the docs after a cold that wouldnt shift and been feeling run down for a while.

I would like to hear off anyone who has had anything simular happen to them while living here? does anyone know what the health service is like here in perth?

I have no family here just me my boyf and a couple of friends we have made (most alot younger than us)

I really dont know how im going to tell my mom she will fall to pieces, she has my nan to worry about back home already. I was going to tell my dad but i feel bad just telling him as i dont feel its fair.

I just started work 3 weeks ago so not even sure if i will keep my job although they are very nice.

no sympathy please , not being funny but im feeling ok just need some advice off some mature folks

thanks xx:hug:

Lovely to hear from you, I wondered how you were going, sorry to hear about your latest news, I won't give you sympathy as I know how you feel about people making a fuss, but I'm here if you ever need to talk.

Now have you been to see a specialist, you need to write down a list of questions and find out the answers, I never ask questions and come out more confused than when I go in, you tend to switch off and zone out. Get someone to go in with you.

Medicare are brilliant, I have only gone private a couple of times but all my treatment and hospital stays have been as a public patient and I can say they have been wonderful and a lot nicer than the UK specialist who first ever diagnosed me with cancer, he was a heartless so and so.

Health system is great. Can I say ... don't tell your mum until you've been to the specialist and know exactly what's what ... that way you can give your mum facts. Take someone with you, in case you miss anything the specialists says. I've been in the position of having treatment during pregnancy and it was my hubby that asked all the what if questions ... I'd stopped listening after he's explained the treatment.

Good luck

Hi, not sure if you are writing as Claire or Luke?

All I wanted to say was that I worked in haematology at RPH when I first came to Perth, I have some contacts and can give you some advice, tell you about the way it all works if you like. PM me and we can talk some more. Good luck for your appt,

Hi Claire,

My hubby had an accident in Perth, and we found the hospitals brilliant(when we came back to Ireland the dr here complimented the work done. So dont worry.

My brother in law had Leukemia 7 years ago. He was 2 weeks in hospital having iv treatment. He is fine today Thank God and just goes for checkups. As far as I know there are 4 main types. His was easily treated and found early.

I hope that is the case with you xxxxxx Cant believe your gone that long as I have read many of your posts as we are Perthbound someday!

I am doing a Reiki session tonight (healing) so if you dont mind,I will include you.

the best of luck xxxxx

kind regards

Cazmayo

Hi Claire

Although not in Oz, my girlfriends mother had Leukemia a few years back.

She got diagnosed fairly early on... She actually found out during a routine test while giving blood.

Anyway, the long shot of it is that she always said she felt a bit of a fraud as she never really felt that bad. Even in the UK, the treatment and after care was great. I hear the system as a whole is even better in Oz so I guess you are in good hands.

As a dad myself now (2 kids 5 & 2), I don't care where they would be or what the circumstances, I would always want to know. I can appreciate it is difficult telling your parents but I am sure they would want to know... All the best, martin

Sorry to hear your news but keep positive. I understand you probably would prefer to let your parents know in person but as a parent, I would want the news sooner rather than later. Even if it was a phone call.

Four years ago my brother had AMC leukemia, he had been to the GP quite a few times but went undiagnosed until he was rushed into hospital and within days he was on life support as all his organ were failing. It was an awful time as his wife was heavily pregnant. He spent months in a coma and we all thought it was the end. The treatment he received was excellent. Four years later he is in remission and even though through the treatment was told he would be infertile. Last year he had another child. Never give up, we all prayed for a miracle whilst he was in a coma and it worked. You are very lucky to get the early diagnoses so stay positive. I wish you well in the coming months.
