Guest gavie
Hi peoples Wondering if anyone can help. I am on the Schedule 2 list of skills but do not have any qualifications. I have over 13 years experience in my profession. I am getting mixed advice, some agencies say that I will not be accepted and one in particular is advising to go through the ACS - does anyone know if this is worth trying, or as I do not pass the points test it will just be a flat no. Bpremji
Hi Gavie, What sort of work do you do? If you do not have any qualifications you will have to go through the RPL route for the ACS, I heard it cant be a bit long winded and painful but I believe with the right skills and a good RPL application you should be able to pass. Have you checked the points system to make sure you have enough to qualify for a visa?

Have you checked the points system to make sure you have enough to qualify for a visa? I am short by 10 points. I am 41 and I work as a SAP Systems Administrator. Does the ACS if passed count as added points instead of my non qualification? My family and I are really wanting to move and without being able to qualify with the 65 points I am looking for other options. Am just wondering if the ACS is the right route to go? i appreciate any help.
Bpremji
Gavie, Passing the ACS will not give you any extra points, but you HAVE to pass the ACS to apply for a 175/176 visa. Whats your points breakdown currently?

Bpremji
Mate, Im not too sure where your going to get the extra 10 points from, you may need to speak to a migration agent. One option maybe to try and get a company to sponsor you for a 457 visa?

ACS RPL route was posible before july 01 but i dont think it will help u now .... ask agent how come he will prepare your case? how come he will help you to get extra points .... decision is yours .... good luck

Hi, You are being told ACS will help becuase you work in IT and if you want to apply for a permanent visa 176 or 175 from outside Oz you must have a positive skills assessment. And ACS is the assessing body for IT related skills. Have a look at the requirement to pass the skills assesment on their website http://www.acs.org.au/index.cfm?action=show&conID=skillassessment

What is the best way to apply for jobs from over here? All the jobs advertised are saying only to apply if you have a visa in place.

I suggest you consider putting the full facts of your case to a registered migration agent and taking advice about the points test and whether it would apply in your case. How about contacting companies directly that deal with your line of work - even ones in the same industry and see if they arent looking for staff. Unfortunately if it is an agency job they wont deal with people who need a visa unless the company specifically says it is prepared to sponsor.
