  1. ah cool you'll be sorted then if you have family there and job set up already! Spent a year in Sydney a few years ago and loved it so trying to get a visa to go back! Traveled a bit up the east coast too a few times as well but never been to Perth. You'll have a great time and so jealous the weather will be warming up nicely when you arrive! Enjoy Cara:wubclub:
  2. Hi dave, oh wow the 28th is very near! if you applied for your visa today then you should have it in time as the 28th is 3 weeks away! Where you heading to? You must be excited if planning to go so soon!
  3. I got my WHV approved in 2 days when I got it through Visa First which is a similar company to Australian Visa Bureau, I paid extra for it to be done in 48hours usually it tells you on the site. if you applied for the visa yourself through the australian immigration website it can take about 2 weeks. I got 13 month travel insurance with ACE http://www.aceinsure.ie/travel/ but there are loads of other compaines you can get it from, just google backpacker travel insurance and make sure you get it to cover anywhere else you may decide to stop off on along the way or on your way home! 4. Hi, Im kinda in a similar situation. I was doing an 4 years honours computer science degree and then after finding 2nd year though changed to a ordinary comp sci degree so i'm not too sure what points i get for my degree too! I got a positive skills assessment from ACS saying i'm in group A which is if you have a degree so i'm hoping that means i get the 15 points too, what group did they asses you against? I've repeated the IELTS to try get all 8s to get the extra points so it wouldnt matter what points i get for my degree. Maybe you could get extra points that way too? Cara
  5. Hi Linda, Yes you're right I was taking to you in another thread re the Ielts I think! I had looked at doing it in Belfast but then with the cost of getting a bus up and prob having to stay over night the night before as i wouldn't fancy the getting the bus in the wee hours of the morning to make it on time, it would work as just as dear as down here. Do you do the speaking part on the same day as the other parts? Here it can be hit and miss depending on if you apply early enough and request to do it on the same day but they cant guarantee it. the 1st time i had applied 2 months inadvance and was able to do all parts on the Saturday but last week even though I requested the same 6weeks in advance i didnt get it and had to do it on the Friday so had to take a half day from work which was pain as I dont have many annual leave days left to take! 6. Hi, You are being told ACS will help becuase you work in IT and if you want to apply for a permanent visa 176 or 175 from outside Oz you must have a positive skills assessment. And ACS is the assessing body for IT related skills. Have a look at the requirement to pass the skills assesment on their website http://www.acs.org.au/index.cfm?action=show&conID=skillassessment
  7. Hi, What test centre did you sit it in? I resat it in UCD last Saturday there was a few more Irish sitting it this time, was even talking to another Irish lady who was resitting it too so was glad I wasn't the only one! I'm not feeling hopefull for getting a better result this time so fear that was another €185 down the drain:sad: Cara
  8. yea i think it could be that too, i hate those questions when the answer is false or not given because sometimes its hard to know which one to use because they can give a contradicting statement! here's a link on how to do these questions the next phttp://www.ieltsonline.com.au/masterDemo/reading/Step_2/1400.asp though I was repeating to increase my listening score, wish they played the last section of the listening twice!!
  9. Fingers crossed for you its 3rd time lucky! I know how you feel. I resat my Ielts test there on Saturday as I need to get all 8's and had got 7.5 in the listening the 1st time. Dont think I have done any better this time round though as again i know i got at least 2 questions wrong because I just didnt hear the answers! Will be gutted if i have to do it a 3rd time! Just have to wait another 12 days to get the results.
  10. Hmm highly unlikely, they only need to see your passport page that has your name, dob and photo etc so they know who your are.
  11. Hi, I sent an original as I got more than one from my employer so if you only have the one signed reference from your employer then I would send a certified copy of it as you will need to keep your reference for future use. Cara

Oh i know, i wish it was an over all of 8 too. I got over all 8.5 made up from L7.5, R8.5, W8 and S9 so i really hope I can get the higher scores again and also go up to an 8 in the listening when i repeat in August. Have you gotten any of your previous tests remarked as I think the writing sometimes can go up where as the listening can't because you either get the answer right or wrong! Cara
  14. Hi, 1)Yes your 1st link is correct to start the application online. 2)Have never seen your 2nd link before so think you should just follow the instructions from the ACS website. Once you have filled out the form online you print it asks you to print it and sign it and post it to the address you have above which is from the ACS instructions on their website. 3)The documents you attach in the application can be the scans of the documents you got certified. 4) yes you must get you copies of documents certified/ signed by a solicitor/notary. 5) as per ACS's website 49. Where do I send my certified documents? It is advisable to send documents through registered mail to: P O Box Q534 Queen Victoria Building Sydney NSW 1230 Australia Or courier to: Level 11, 50 Carrington Street Sydney NSW 2000 Australia We advise registered post because this enables the applicant to confirm receipt. The ACS will not issue receipts or sign acknowledgements over the counter and applicants are advised we will not speak to applicants on-site. So how you send it is your choice! All the best with your application.

    irish police checks

I got mine last Sept and it took about 2 weeks. I just went down to my local garda station in Dublin and filled out a form and they sent it off to Limerick i think.
  17. The OP put NSW as the subject of the thread so I think WA was a typo, seen as they want to go to the Central Coast?!
  18. I'm pretty sure if your on this list http://www.business.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0010/5788/STNI_Criteria-STNI-Skilled-website-March-2011.pdf you can live where you want in NSW. But there are 4 other regional area's in NSW that have lists with more occupations and they have their own sponsorship that you apply for and then you are meant to live in that area, they are Murray, Orana, Riverina and Northern Inland Region. You'll find all their details here http://www.business.nsw.gov.au/live-and-work-in-nsw/visa-and-migration/skilled-regional-migration Hope that helps. Cara
  19. Hi, I have a positive skills assessement, Ielts results and meet the work experience requirement and my points so far add up to 60. Can I apply for NSW state sponsorship and get 5 more points to total 65? Or do I need to reach 65 poiints before i can apply for NSW sponsorship? Have booked to resit the Ielts exam in August to get hopefully get more points! I'm pretty sure I need to get the 65 before applying for the sponsorship but would love to hear I'm wrong?! Can anyone advise? Thanks, Cara
  20. Thanks might try ringing them tonight!
  21. Hi, I know how you feel, I'm waiting almost as long too, since mid March. It's really annoying to see people on the speadsheet who have applied after us to have gotten back their results. I know some cases can be done quicker but the fact they havent requested more documents for mine i dont see what the hold up is. The last email I got from ACS was 21st March saying my documents have been received and i have heard nothing since. I sent them an email a week or so ago to see what happening but I have yet to get a reply. Has your case assesor been in touch with you and requested more info or anything? Have you tired ringing them? Thanks, Cara

Hi Dean, Welcome to PIO! I'm doing the process myself. You can download the all the applications forms in advance to see what info you'll need to fill them out with and then be ready to apply online, that's my plan anyway! At the moment I'm waiting to hear back for my skills assessment from ACS. You'll need to get your skills assessment too, the SOL list tells you who your assessing authority is so i would look them up and see what they require from you and go from there. Think it all depends on each individual/family case and how straight forward or not their application will be. As it's just me and i have no dependents etc i don't think mine should be that complicated to do so saving my money! You'll get lots of help from people on here so you if you come across anything your unsure of you can search PIO to see if it's come up already or post a question! All the best Cara :wubclub:
  23. Hi there, I went over with $20K for my WHV but that was 4 years ago when the exchange rate was a lot better! I went to Sydney too as I was going over to an aussie boyfriend so i knew i would be staying in Sydney and getting a job etc. so had looked up rental prices and the average salary for a job i was hoping to get. you can check rent prices on http://www.domain.com.au/?mode=rent i know people who went over with a lot less and got by fine too ...it all depends on what you plan on doing, I wasn't doing it like a backpacker but had friends who lived in hostels so were paying cheaper rent than what I did for an apt. you can do it as cheap or as dear as you want basically! As your going over on a WHV which is a temporary visa i wouldn't be shipping anything over, you can buy everything over there as you need it and second hand to save money if you want. Have a look on Gumtree, i got a 2nd hand metal bed frame on it for $100! The guy selling it even delivered to my apt and carried it up 3 flights of stairs for me :cute: you'll find lots of people on WHV selling 2nd hand things like TV's, sofa's, desks and chairs etc or just go to Ikea or Target and you get things cheap enough. Also I think your driving license is actually ok to drive on for 12 months over there as you won't have a permanent resident visa, my friends did on their Irish ones so would imagine its the same for UK ones. Have a look here for the info http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/visitorstonsw/index.html Cara
  24. Darling Harbour has some great restaurants. My favourite 2 are Hurricanes- amazing steak and the Nicks- delicious seafood!! http://hurricanesgrill.com.au/about-hurricanes/hurricanes-darling-harbour http://www.nicks-seafood.com.au/nicksbarandgrill/ Both of those restaurants are at Bondi Beach too but the views from Hurricanes in the city is really nice at night time. Bungalow 8 is really nice for pub food and or drinks, that's at the end of King St Wharf http://www.bungalow8sydney.com/ You'll have a great time anyway!
  25. They are both right! The bit below is from DIAC's website for the 417 WHV be aged between 18 and 30 years (inclusive) at the time of applying Important: Your age will be determined as the age you are in Australia at the time your application is lodged (Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) or the Australian Eastern Daylight Savings time (AEDT)). Because of this time difference you are advised not to wait to lodge your application until you are about to turn 31, as the system will take the current date in Australia as your application date.
