Is it windy in Mandurah/Rockingham

Silly as this sounds, is it more windy in some coastal areas than others? Some say Rockingham coasts windy and we want to make sure we wont be blown about too much.

We are thinking possibly from Secret Harbour upto Safety Bay as our area to settle. I know the coasts usually a bit windy but be nice to get peoples opinions.

Thanks x

We are here now, Port Kennedy, in the middle of winter and it is windy and a bit rainy but we have still been able to get out and do stuff. Average temp is about 20c in the day time, around 3c at night. We have been told its not so windy in the summer and around 35c in the day. Hope that helps

Hi, sorry for late reply, we loved it in Port Kennedy. Its not far from the city, about 45mins in the car, and close to the beach, 10 mins. Everyone seams to be friendly and relaxed compared to the rush of life in the UK. Rockingham center is great, 10 mins away, with plenty of shops and resturants/bars, lively at night but not intimidating at all. We looked round at houses and schools and all seams to be very nice, we have some friends there so they got bombarded with loads of questions about everything. We wasnt disilusioned with any of the research we had done as it was pretty much what we expected. Can not wait to get back. Hope that helps.

It's windy on the coast in the summer, usually after lunchtime. Mostly you are ready for a bit of wind by then and if you live near the coast you can open up your house to cool it down.

Great place to live if you are a keen windsurfer, one of the best in the world.

In the spring and autumn we have some fantastic days with next to no wind on the coast. Evening walks are lovely.

During the summer most people get up a lot earlier and go down the beach early (I ski paddle or swim most mornings before work at 06:00) as it's just about perfect then. After lunch, after the Fremantle doctor has started blowing, it's not nice to be there. Lots of sand blowing about.

We have had a few holidaymakers stay with us and they adopt the English laying in late policy, followed by a late lazy breakfast. By the time they stroll down the beach it's about 11:30 then they complain as they have half an hour and then the wind starts blowing. We've usually been down there for 3 hrs by the time they turn up.
