  2. Really depends on where you want to settle. People either like NOR or SOR (north or south of the river). Vic Park is a nice area and yes close to transport for Perth CBD. If you go NOR, I would look at Darch, Warwick, Woodvale areas. There are more poms NOR and better beaches so like I say, really depends on where you want to settle and what you are looking for. We found a place on trip advisor to rent when we landed here, cheaper than hotels. Good luck.
  3. How many employees are there? There has to be under 15 employees to class as a small business and they HAVE to include casual employees. You cannot go for unfair dismissal if you have been employed for under 6 months no matter how many employees they have but they do need to pay 1 weeks notice pay in lieu plus any annual leave you have accured. They also need to give a valid reason. Sounds like they aren't very nice people to work for and you are better off with another employer.
  4. When we did ours, we managed to go back 8 years then signed a stat dec for the rest.
  5. HI, The company I work for in Malaga (NOR) needs an experienced A/R clerk who can also help with Reception. You will need to either be a perm resi or citizen. You can email me chloe@workwearind.com if you are interested. This is a genuine opportunity for someone either new to WA or that just fancies a change. This will be a full time perm position, Monday to Friday 08:30 until 5:00pm. Feel free to apply if you have A/P experience, attitude and ability are the most important factors.

  7. The company I work for is looking for someone to run their reception whilst supporting the accounts team. We are located in Malaga, NOR from Perth WA. You will need a good background in admin/accounts and be reliable. You also need the right to live and work in Australia permanently, we cannot accept WHV unfortunately. If you are looking for a new job and have some experience, please email me your resume to chloe@workwearind.com
  8. I called them when we had been here 6 months (now been here for 16 months) and they said it was scrapped to cut costs.
  9. Hi Maria, I am by Joondalup and in the same position. Been here 16 mths and have a few work friends but not really had the chance to make friends outside of work. Have a boy of 9 and work the 9-5 slog. Would be good to meet up, perhaps with our hubbys so they can chat too.

Where abouts are you moving to in Aus?
  11. Get all your employment info, bank statements, etc ready. Dont book any meds or police checks until they ask you as they have an expiry date.
  12. You have to follow your heart and what is right for you. Australia drives me mental at times and my hubby and son are real homesick but for us, we had no life there. How far are you with your plans to go back? I know you have made the decision but perhaps you could stall things for 3 months and see what happens. It seems like major homesickness to me. Being back in the uk with the family makes you feel like your back in your comfort zone but then the other side of the coin is you have to live. You need a decent salary etc so everything needs to be weighed up. I would try and stall things just for some headspace. THeres always the alternative of visiting every 18 months to get it out of your system? Good luck.
  13. We are a family with 3 boys aged 8, 15 and 17. Landed from the uk in May last year and looking for families to meet up with. Be good to hear from you.
  14. They only ask you to do your police check and meds in the final stages. As long as your checks come back good you will be fine.
  15. You can only get sponsorship from a state, family member (currently suspended) or an employer. If he was to employ you he could sponsor you if his company was big enough. The best way is to go state sponsored as a teacher for your mrs. Go on google and type in "state sponsorship south australia" etc for all states, check which one is looking for teachers and go from there.
  16. Depends on where you move, if you have a job, will you rent or buy, are you shipping your stuff. We moved to a good suburb in WA. We landed with a suitcae each and that was it. Our container took 3 mths to arrive. We had £5000 to last us til our money came thro from the UK and we survived on that. Out of this money we had to furnish our rental, pay 6 weeks rent upfront and rent until we started work. That was for a family of 5 including food, paying for drivers licence etc.
  17. We flew emirates on a 176, no extra baggage! We had a case each, bought those soft shell ones thats last 10 yrs in Matalan as they weigh nothing. We took Papers, medical papers, passports, visa papers, school reports, card and paper part of drivers licence, Resume (as you may not have a printer) Also, scan EVERYTHING and email it to yourself, if you lose something u still have a copy Also useful to get your UK employers to write you a ref on headed paper Towel each Clothing, shoes etc Travel adapters Kitchen stuff like wooden spoon, whisk, 1 saucepan, cutlery, to tide us over Laptops Dvds, cds selection All our jewellery and personal special items (incase the container sunk) (in hand luggage) Photos, (hand luggage) If you have kids, make sure they take a teddy and some lego and books etc I was so glad we did as our container took ages For older kids and teens, books, cds, ipod to keep them busy We did buy a huge amount of stuff as you cant wait 3 mths for your container unless you rent somewhere fully furnished. Its not that bad, I wanted to erase every memory of the uk so was glad to get new stuff! Kmart is really good on prices. Good luck!
  18. The company I work for in the Northern Suburbs Perth, is looking for someone in their purchasing department. You will need a min of 2 years purchasing experience and be able to maintain accurate records including stock takes and spreadsheets. All the staff here are lovely and we like new employees to stay long term. If you are looking for a purchasing position then send me your resume to chloe@workwearind.com and I will pass it on. You will need to have the right to work in Australia. Good luck!
  19. Hi JT, Im an HR manager in Perth. Companies wont be interested until you arrive here. They like to interview people and get a feel for you before taking things further. I would say the best thing to do is save enough to live on for 3 mths here and jump on the plane. Worst case you may need to take any job whilst your dream job comes up but least you are here. Also, email some agencies, see what the job markets like for the area you want to settle.
  20. Hi, I've got an 8 year old boy and am feeling like the worlds worst mother ever! Hes fine during the day but every so often will get so upset at night about missing the uk and saying he hates it here and wants go to home. Im sure half of it is tiredness but it makes me feel just awful. Anyone else in the same position or have any tips? Thanks.
  21. Hi girls, I've been here 4 months and started work quick so not had a moment to find a friend. Missing girly moan ups and chats! I've got a hubby and boys so am the only woman in the house. Hillarys is a great place to meet up if anyone wants to? Sunday morning for a coffee is always good as its not so busy. I find the aussies take their time to get to know you before they decide they either like or hate you. If you do get an aussie friend they are mates for life tho. x
  22. They will probably get the hump because on the face of it, it looks like you were trying to hide things. I would do a letter explaining what the convictions were for and the dates. As long as you are honest you will be ok (unless they are recent or violent crimes).
  23. Hi guys, I've read a few depressing posts on here lately with people saying its the same here as the uk. Thought id fight the corner and say get off your butt and see the beauty around you. We go the these places with a pack of sausages and hot dog rolls every weekend with the kids and love it. None of which we had in the uk and they are all free. 1. Rotary park, scenic drive, wanneroo - amazing for the kids, major play area for all ages plus free toilets, bbqs 2. Noble falls, swan valley, drive off reid highway, up Toodyay road, past BP fuel station on the left, the sign for the falls is on the left, its about a good 15 mins drive up Toodyay road but keep going. Theres a cafe on the right, opposite the turn for the falls. Theres toilets, free bbqs and you can paddle in the water as its shallow by the mini waterfall. Google it, there are pics. 3. Scarborough Beach, stunning beach, play area etc 4. Hillarys boat harbour, such a cool place, play area, bbqs, nice little cove for the kids to swin and paddle plus plenty of eating places and facilities. 5. Yanchep beach - stunning for play and picnics 6. Kings Park, stunning views over the city, if you go at sundown you will get awesome pics of the city lights, go in the day and take the kids and dog, you can go over the glass bridge and see the views. 7. Freemantle, what a place! Boho laid back, plenty of shops, bars, cafes etc. Always a funky musician playing something or people putting on a show, the markets are a great trundle and if you go to the harbour, theres a play area plus plenty of grass for a picnic. Go enjoy people! Embrace life and remember why you came here. Your heart will always miss loved ones in the uk but your mind keeps you busy!
  24. Hi, Does anyone know of any greek families in Perth NOR areas? I want to learn greek but there are no tutors that I can find. Thanks.
  25. Sharing is going to be a lot cheaper and crates are just the same. If you share a container all your stuffs packed then put in wooden crates and then in another big crate so its the same. All the crates are clearly marked so no worries on that. If you can manage with bringing a suitcase and then shipping a couple of boxes you could airfreight them which would take about a week but you would have to check on costs. Don't be put off sharing a container.
