Adult entertainment on WHV

Ok guys I have a quick question. I am a permanent resident which I received last year under the ENS. My girlfriend of 6 years lives with me on a WHV and at the end of 12 months she will be applying for a spouse visa. She has been offered casual emloyment as an adult entertainer- pole dancer to be exact. Something that's been a hobby of hers for a long time. My question is would this cause any issues with the department of immigration? Would they refuse her a spouse visa due to her emloyment? Or question our relationship in general?

Thanks Nathan

They might come down on her hard if she lets it slip, you would then have to make sure that all of the details are provided otherwise she may slide down the priority list and she could then be shafted?

OP... It shouldnt make an difference at all. I would imagine that DIAC would have a wee smile... as long as you can carry out your sponsorship duties it should be fine.

One of my sons is prone to pole dancing , only after drinking Stella though:huh:!

Good luck.

I can't help the actual question, but I think I speak for most of the guys here when I say you're making us jealous!

Why not try emailing DIAC and asking? You could use an internet cafe and a hotmail/gmail account or something if you are *really* paranoid.

I didn't have any issues getting visas for NZ working in the latex fetish clothing industry (designing rather than modelling, but pretty much the same thing in a lot of peoples eyes in the UK, as is being a lesbian, a prostitute, a porn actress and so on. Idiots.). I did find down under to be far far far more tolent as it were of such things, and take them more on face value, whereas the UK has been no end of issues with it tbh - know that doesn't really help with an offical line, but just wanted to settle your mind a little with my experiences.

As for them questioning your relationship - its a completely different thing to your relationship - why would they? (OK, I can see why on one hand, but can't really understand it, work is work, relationship is relationship.) Do they actually have to know in so many words though at all? Unless her employer is 'Go go dancers ahoy! Boys come see some boobies here!'Ltd' (which I'm guessing it isn't called (ignoring the fact that that isn't really what its about at any rate). So, for all they know, she could be employed by that company cleaning the toliets, or washing the glasses, or doing the accounts etc which would have no bearing in any way on her relationship with you, nor on her contribution to life in Australia (other than in a positive manner as she would be paying tax). Even if it were Spearmint Rhino, and she lists her job as 'dancer' its not a given she is an adult dancer (ok, it is, but it isn't if you get what I mean lol...) and if she is paying tax - why should they care? They only care if it is illegal - how else do they get their tax dollars?

I agree completely. I think that it would be prejudice if it did go against us. There are unfortunately some narrow minded people around though. At the end of the day we are in a great relationship. To the point where if they didn't allow her to stay I'd move back to the UK with her. Maybe I will give an immigration agent a call if one doesn't reply to this thread soon!

I think I do have a tendancy to worry about things but im just that sort of person I guess. I dont sleep at night if there is any doubt about things. Anyway I think that the best thing to do woud be to speak to a migration agent either on here or on the phone. Any one else have any thoughts?

Hi Nathan

I would hope that as long as it is a legal occupation you should recieve no problems.

I was searching SEEK under modelling as in IT data modelling and saw an advert the other day for I think it was topless hostesses - at $300 an hour Iwas thinking of applying. Ahh if only I had the rest of the figure that they would be after.

Mmmm if I combine that with modelling for positivepixies designs I might make a bit more :wubclub:

Good luck Nathan I hope it works out.

For $300 an hour I'd be interested in that role.

Shame I'm male

And overweight

And the wrong side of 30

Otherwise I'm an ideal candidate!

Sounds good. Il get her to have a look at that! I'm hoping it will work out! I'm defo going to talk to a migration agent before she does start for peace of mind. They make excellent money where she has been offered employment too. If she was to work 3-4 nights a week she would average 2-3000 a week!

I'm female but similar issues would disqualify me

But that said a bit of pole dancing might help us loose it!

At that salary she can afford a migration agent  I'm sure some of them will be happy to just do part of the sponsorship aplication or offer advice and you would not have to pay for the whole process if you did not want to.

Well up to that sort of money. A lot of it is based on commission. But that is what they typically earn.

I would take their figures with a pinch of salt and not rely on them - yes you can make amazing money doing dancing etc, but also it can not be a goer for lots of reasons, just make sure you don't count your chickens (its one of those things where it either really is great and you make LOADS of money and the working conditions are fab, or the conditions are the pits and you end up penniless).

It can be a great laugh though, best of luck to you and your OH, defiately something to do for the experience if nothing else, while you are young :)
