Were you stopped from boarding at the airport?

It turns out the vicar is a registrar. In the uk you only have to register with the registrar if not done I a C of E church. In Australia it seems you have to register with the registrar regardless. Aus post did say they don't do many british passports. Let alone ones requiring a name change. I imagine they have it wrong. She travels a month tommorow. Now I have the dilemma of correcting Aus post and sending the application for a new passport. Usually this takes 3 weeks but says you should apply 6 weeks before travel. The second is to go down the route of establishing if she can travel on her existing one.

I cannot see anywhere on the certificate that a registrar would countersigned. Il email the vicar and see what he has to say. Has anyone tried to get an emergency passport?

I expect that is what Aus post is suggesting. I was completely unaware this was the case. She is not stopping anywhere as in leaving the country but like.y stopping in Singapore and Dubai. Not leaving the airport so not officially entering the country. Im starting to think I might drive to the airport and talk to the airline desk. Maybe even the check in assistants. I just don't know who to contact for absolute clarification!

We contacted Etihad, they have no problem with her travelling but said the Airport may stop her. - nightmare

Thank you for you reply's, I'm unsure if we would be doing something wrong by applying in her maiden name? As it no longer her legal name. my gut feeling is that they would not stop her from travelling as she is a UK citizen travelling to the UK! Im planing on ringing a different branch of Australia post that deal with british passports in the morning. I think somebody may be mistaken at the office she attended. That's if we go down the renewal route. We would much prefer to replace when she arrives as it's just much easier. Any one have any ideas who I should contact regarding brisbane airport allowing her to travel? Thanks again nathan

My wife is travelling back to the UK in 6 weeks. She has 2 months remaining on her british passport. We got married last year in the UK and she went to Aus Post and was told they are unable to send it as the marriage certificate is not signed by a registrar? I'm confused. We were married in church and its signed by the vicar. I understand that it may be different if married in Australia. On the C1 notes form it just says they need the original certificate. She has been told brisbane airport will not let her travel with less than 6 months on her passport? please help? Thanks nathan

I'm a qualified light vehicle mechanic just north of Brisbane. 50k is average for a mechanic in Brisbane. I get abit of a better deal than that, they will pay more for the right person. Is he a dealership mechanic or done most of his work in "back street" garages? Depending on this and what experience he has I might be able to point him in the direction of my ex-employer who sponsored me. Its also worth knowing that if he can specialise in electrics. (I'm currently going through recognised prior learning for this) or has ever worked on trucks you can apply to have your skills recognised and get a trade certificate. Diesel fitters and auto electricians are in big demand and they pay top dollars. Id say 80-90k for either of these skills in Brisbane. If he wants to do FIFO (fly in fly out) work the more like 150 even up to 190k a year. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Nathan

Hi everyone, Im Nathan, Im 26, originally from Warrington, England, now living in Brisbane, Australia. My girlfriend and I were having a rough time in the UK. I was struggling to find work. We couldnt get a mortgage due to the recession and we felt life was passing us by. I thought Id tell you about our experience moving to Australia. It all started in March 2010. I had been made redundant from my employment in the UK as a Mechanic three months earlier, I had been looking for employment everyday during that three months. I had one interview for a job which 10 people were interviewed for. The Manager inerviewing me told me he had not liked anyone he had interviewed so far and didnt even bother to walk them through the building. At the end of the interview he walked me round the building and gave me a pat on the back and told me he would be in touch in a few days. A week passed when i recieved a call to say that he was sorry he gave me the impression the job was mine. He intended on employing me until someone put in an internal transfer from another branch and the position was no longer available. I had not even considered a move to Australia when I recieved a phone call from an ex colleague and friend who had moved to Brisbane 2 years ago. He had heard I was out of work and told me he had spoken to his boss and would offer me employment should I be able to get a visa. I quickly researched Visa options and decided to get a working holiday visa. This wa approved pretty much overnight. My friend told me I was welcome to stay with him until I got on my feet. A week later I found myself in Brisbane. I arrived in Brisbane at about 9am on a friday morning. My friend picked me up from the Airport and took me to his house in the northern suburbs. I was due to start work on the Monday and having just arrived I felt pretty wired. He asked me if I wanted to go into work straight away and get the first day out of the way. I thought that would be good as then I would not have to worry about starting a new job over the weekend. In short the Job was pretty good, Good people, good atmosphere and more than double the pay of the UK! Before I left the UK my girlfriend and I decided she would stay in the UK while I worked out Australia, She had a pretty good job and we wouldnt afford to both go back and have no Jobs! My workplace were impressed with my work and quickly looked into sponsorship for permanent residency. To cut a long story short they decided that they would be happy to sponsor me as long as I covered all costs, which is what I did. It was about 11 months before my PR visa was granted, I missed my girlfriend who had been over to visit and loved it. By this time I was renting my own place. We decided that I would go home just after Xmas for a month when I had saved up my days off at work and that she would come back to Australia on a Working holiday visa. We had never lived together, so we were not eligable for a spouse visa. The plan was we would live together for 12 months in Australia and then apply for her Spous Visa. I also decided that I would ask her to marry me when I visit the UK for that month and saved hard for a ring. We were also organising an official leaving party for us as I had left so quickly I never had a send off, this was also going to be an engagement party which her parents knew about but had to let her believe it was just a leaving party. To cut a long story short she said yes, we had a great party and she came to Australia with me. She found work quickly and we found we were earning way more money than in the UK, We could actually save up to a thousand dollars a week if we didnt waste it. We saved for our wedding and bought an investment property in the UK with our savings. We went back to the UK for the wedding in May this year and have now been married for 2 months. I should mention that her Visa was granted late last year and we now both have Permanent residency. We are not sure of or long term plans. We think we may go back when we have children due to family. To be honest we spent a long time trying to decide what we were going to do long term when we decided that we dint have o decide. We live each day at a time and if we decide to go home one day then we will. We are looking forward to getting our citizenship in a couple of years! ANy questions or thoughts please let me know. I guess in some ways Ive made it look easy but I did still go through the nightmare of dealing with Visa's etc. Nathan

Yeah thanks for the help! I agree, I think that sounds a little far fetched but even if it's a lot less than that I guess it's still an income, good exercise and if you enjoy it then it's a winner!

Well up to that sort of money. A lot of it is based on commission. But that is what they typically earn.

Sounds good. Il get her to have a look at that! I'm hoping it will work out! I'm defo going to talk to a migration agent before she does start for peace of mind. They make excellent money where she has been offered employment too. If she was to work 3-4 nights a week she would average 2-3000 a week!

I should also mention she would be working on an ABN, Im not sure if they would even know as Im not familiar with how that works yet?

I think I do have a tendancy to worry about things but im just that sort of person I guess. I dont sleep at night if there is any doubt about things. Anyway I think that the best thing to do woud be to speak to a migration agent either on here or on the phone. Any one else have any thoughts?

I agree completely. I think that it would be prejudice if it did go against us. There are unfortunately some narrow minded people around though. At the end of the day we are in a great relationship. To the point where if they didn't allow her to stay I'd move back to the UK with her. Maybe I will give an immigration agent a call if one doesn't reply to this thread soon!

Ok guys I have a quick question. I am a permanent resident which I received last year under the ENS. My girlfriend of 6 years lives with me on a WHV and at the end of 12 months she will be applying for a spouse visa. She has been offered casual emloyment as an adult entertainer- pole dancer to be exact. Something that's been a hobby of hers for a long time. My question is would this cause any issues with the department of immigration? Would they refuse her a spouse visa due to her emloyment? Or question our relationship in general? Thanks Nathan
