Shippers said I can get the VAT back???

Just had the third shipping bloke round to give us quote. He mentioned something that the other two didnt. He asked us why we were not shipping a washing machine and tumble drier. We said that we were going to get new out in oz to which he replied that they are more expensive in oz and if we buy them and ship them within the 3 months preceeding our departure, we will be able to claim the VAT back as we are exporting them.

I have never heard this before. Can anyone throw any light on this?

I think this only applies to whitegoods bought very recently.

E-mail him on his business card address and get EXACT details

as he is more than likelt very correct.

If you are shipping white goods as an import to Australia, as long as it's under AUD 1,000 in value they will be duty free, otherwise they'll be subject to a 5% duty tax. Please note that you will also be liable for fumigation charges here in Australia.

Enquire at John Lewis, I think that you have to have your goods delivered direct to your shipper and you purchase the items vat free. If you have the items delivered to your home address then you will have to pay the vat then claim it back.
